I think that is what you were getting at. Yes, I must confess I was tip-toeing around commitment. Partly because life can get in the way (as you know yourself) and partly because I've never used a Wiki, find the thought of a Wiki intimidating, and am uncomfortable with the idea of having free reign to edit someone else's site.

There's no real need to feel daunted by Wiki. Wiki is a "very good thing" well worth getting into if you have information to publish/share online It's a superb tool for collaboration via the internet, allowing a disparate group of users to contribute to a central work. It isn't so very different from this forum. The main differences that come to mind are: * "Posts" called "articles" on a wiki, * Articles are much more commonly hyperlinked to each other on a wiki, * Articles tend to get longer than posts, * Only the latest version of an article is shown to a visitor (unless they specifically want a different version). There is no real risk of anybody's edits to an article being permanently lost or overwritten, since wikis will, in general, remember every version there ever was of every article. The site admin (or admins) can always revert to former versions if need be, or ban destructive users, and so on, but 99% of the time additions and updates are a good thing that improves everyone's experience.

You did little there to allay my fears Simon.

Yes, I must confess I was tip-toeing around commitment. No worries. I'm not asking for a commitment. I wasn't even meaning you specifically. But the wiki is there if anyone here or elsewhere has something they can add to make it more complete. BTW, great explanation of a wiki, waysoftheearth.

Wiki explanation exalted! I use them but I didn't really understand how they work, thanks for that.

. . . and am uncomfortable with the idea of having free reign to edit someone else's site. As far as that is concerned, you should know that there are whole areas of the wiki that have no content yet. For instance, I have only written synopses for only the first half of the F&GM stories so far. I have half of the stories left to go. Also, I have barely touched upon the magic in Nehwon. Then there are common themes, threads, relationships to other authors such as Lovecraft, and other areas that can be explored. I haven't even started working on all of the D&D or Runequest Lankhmar RPG material. Not to mention, that I would eventually like to add an area for original content such as DM-written adventures in Nehwon. And that's just the RPG/Lankhmar half of the wiki! There is all of Leiber's other writings to consider. So as you can see, there is plenty of empty space on the wiki where one can contribute without having to touch upon older content.

I've thought of making an OD&D wiki for archival purposes. Trouble is, it seems one must pay money for a private wiki.

I've thought of making an OD&D wiki for archival purposes. Trouble is, it seems one must pay money for a private wiki. It costs me $84 a year to run the Scrolls. $6 a month for server space and $12 a year for the domain name. So the question is, is that much worth it to you to do it? Or as austrodavicus suggested earlier, you could set up a link for donations through PayPal to offset your costs. The software, however, is free.

Thanks for the information. I was actually meaning "limited access" as opposed to personal.
