I have run a few games now set in M.E. using LL ruleset. One issue I am having is that there seems to be a bit of a lacking in diversity of monsters available to the DM. Did MERP ever put out a monster manual of any sort? Or was the monster info mostly in the box set rulebook. What do you use for a monster resource for a M.E. run campaign?

You could check out ICE 8005 Creatures of Middle-earth. It starts with animals and creatures named in Tolkien, and extrapolating and drawing out every throwaway reference they could find. It’s at times too mundane, but overall kind of interesting, and it proves, at least, that Tolkien wanted Middle-earth to have a LOT more monsters of many different kinds. I think reading it would make you shirk less from using more D&D monsters.

Personally, I love the Tolkien Bestiary by David Day. Awesome illustrations and lots of color commentary.

On page 1 of a Google search is both a Scribd and 4shared link to the book. If you're squeamish about piracy, you can always simply view the book on the Scribd site without actually downloading it.

Okay, I just stumbled across this: Creatures of Middle Earth, which I think is connected to some MMPORG or other, but there's some pretty cool extrapolation going on...

Yes, kesher, that is for LOTRO. If you are a Tolkien purist LOTRO gets pretty far out there, but there are so many creatures in it that sometimes it plays like DDO if DDO was fun to play.
