I personally will buy a set for no other reason than to tell WoTC there is demand for the old material.
But I'm with the rest of you. Through the OSR I've found 0e and that's the edition for me. I use the 1e DMG for all the cool stuff in the tables.

I went to my local game store and put in a pre-order for all three. I guess after all these years of complaining that WotC never supports older editions, I should at least put my money where my mouth is.

I hope all OSR fans that can afford a set, buy one.

I pre ordered my set. It will be my first WOTC purchase in over ten years.

I just picked up a set at Gary's Games in Seattle. They were overpriced compared to offers on Amazon but I got them anyway.
My first impression is that these are fairly accurate re-creations - I think the Futura font is a little lighter and narrower, resulting in a different look which I don't think is as nice as the original, but I need to dig out my copies of the originals to do a side by side comparison. The headings look very similar to my memory of the originals.
Physically the books seem pretty solid. The paper is semi-glossy, not as matte as the original, but it is not nearly as bad as some modern RPG books I have seen. Readability is about the same as the original. I think the worst problem is the art - some of the art with very heavy, large black areas did not reproduce as much detail as in the originals.
Overall, I would say if you want to game with 1e AD&D, it is a good option to get these books and preserve your originals.
