Has anyone ever tried doing this? I am enjoying Stonehell so far but I want to run it using OD&D instead of the B/X rules.

Shouldn't be a problem. All the older versions are essentially the same game; they differ only in minor ways.
And since B/X is a direct descendent of OD&D, it should be quite easy to make that shift.
I haven't tried it myself, but I do look forward to reading your play reports!

One question I have been meaning to ask is if I should start the players off with Stonehell or should I run them through B1/B2 and then proceed to Stonehell? I think if I run them through B1/B2 first they can learn how to map dungeons, a skill they have yet not mastered. I think it might be a bit intimidating for them to map a dungeon as big as Stonehell if they have no previous experience.

I think that you have touched on it. If your players are experienced, then they should be able to start out slowly plodding through Stonehell. If they aren't, then you would definitely want to have them go through something more introductory. I think that B1 or B2 are excellent choices for building a "player skill" foundation. (All strictly my opinion, of course. )

In my experience. B1 is a MUCH better introductory module than B2 - which can be over the top deadly to the point of being discouraging. Thus I recommend either either B1, B3, or B4 - any of these should do the trick. Personally, I find the later two modules more thematically interesting.

leicamaster: I'm pleased you're enjoying Stonehell so far. It shouldn't be too difficult to run with the LBBs. In fact, the Stonehell campaign began with us using Goblinoid Games' Original Edition Characters rules. When we switched over to straight Labyrinth Lord, I ran into no difficulties so you should be fine, too.
As for running B1/B2 before turning your players loose in Stonehell proper, let me note that the Canyon level of Stonehell was designed to introduce new players to the concepts of dungeon exploration, mapping, running away, traps, and other important skills. If you wanted to, you could install a door to the dungeon entrance proper and hide the key to that door somewhere in the canyon for the PCs to find. That would allow them to get used to the art of dungeon crawling before they got in too far over their heads. Download the free Brigand Caves supplement if you need a longer adventuring period outside the dungeon itself.
And please let us know how things go!

I'd go with straight Stonehell. The only thing you need to do different, assuming you are using the 3 original books only, is use d6's for monsters' hit dice.
Even if a few PCs die, no biggy. It just makes the dungeon more interesting if you find their stuff or undead corpse on a later expedition.

I think what I might do is run them through the dungeons of B1 and they can find the key to the entrance of Stonehell in there. I will have to give it a bit more thought tonight after I am done with homework. Thanks! EDIT: The reason I am so inclined on running B1 is because of its history.

When I run OD&D I have the RC and AD&D Monster Manual and C&C M&T books handy. I just use a monster from whichever book I happen to pick up and roll whatever type of HD seems appropriate at the time. I figure if HP totals or AC numbers are a little off, who cares?
