Gereshma bows briefly, as is polite and professional, and then goes to the flunky.
'The map,' he says simply, taking from the man.
In the shadow the mighty scarlet walls of the Temple of Karakan, he takes a peek.

The symbols are not proportional but clearly indicate landmarks that will lead you to the site of the Shrine of Exquisite Agony.
The document also contains the mark of the Society of Castigation and a brief passage from a sacred text extolling the abuse of the young.
The document looks like a recruitment flyier. =

Hrunal glances at the map, but is more interested in what's happening around them. He watches Elechu (but does not stare) and looks around the plaza and through the gates of the temple.

The plaza in front of the temple entrance is much smaller than the one in front of The Palace of the Priesthoods. This one contains no fountains but does contain many stalls selling items to use as offering at the temple. There are also many scribes offering their services.
The entrance to the temple is a motif of the assault on the gate of a fortress. The gate in the city wall that surrounds the Foreign Quarter is placed as the centerpiece to this scene. The triumphant defense of the gate is frozen in stone and paint.
Inside the gate, the huge stepped pyramid of the temple proper fills the view. =

Gereshma goes inside, looking for a stall that sells cheap trinkets for sacrifices.

There are many stalls in the plaza before the temple gate. Gereshma can find trinkets of any quality desired, for a price.
Unless you have merchant skill, pay 20% over any price for an item you wish to purchase. The sacrifice "value" will be 20% less in other words. =

Gereshma chooses a tiny silver charm shaped like a lightning bolt costing 24 hlash.
'I think this will be suitable,' he says, 'Better than nothing, and I am sure Karakan will bless us in our poverty.'
Seeking out one of the many attendant acolytes, Gereshma asks him to pray for the Silver Shells and present the charm at the Shrine of Nagotai, he who defends against the dark, offering 6 hlash.
'We have no blood to offer the God but our own, and being not heroes we are not worthy, but still -'
Gereshma pricks his finger with the charm, then hands it round his clan brothers to do the same.

Hrunal had been frowning and hesitating over scarlet lacquered goods, and is happy when Gereshma reveals his silver charm. He hastily steps over to the same stall, and spends a kaitar and 10 hlash on two miniature silvered lightning swords, and adds them to the sacrifice.

Kevuk spends a dozen or so kaitars on valuable sacrificial trinkets, given that he follows Karakan himself, and has not been to services of late. He follows the others in making his donation.

The acolyte attending the Shrine of Nagotai oversees the offerings. He is obviously pleased that the minor aspect that he attends is being honored. He does more than the minimum prayers and gives his blessing to those of the party participating. =

Kevuk is superstitious, and finds himself reassured by the prayers.
"What ho, cousins," he says. "Let's be on with the mission now - no time to waste!"

Gereshma unrolls the map; where to next?

The map shows the location of the Armory of the Omniscient Eye of the Emperor (55). From the armory, a stairway is indicated going down to the symbol of a shrine.
A roll against Guile can be made to determine any secondary use of the flier. =

Hrunal looks at the map and reads the writing on the back. He wonders if it might be a means of admittance...
[ooc: I'm not sure if the Guile check was intended as an opportunity now, or when we arrive close to the shrine. If the former, I'd definitely like to make the check. I leave all the rolling to our esteemed GM.]

Hrunal determines that the map doubles as an invitation and is intended to also allow admittance to the shrine. =

"Well then! What are we waiting for?"
Kevuk is itching for a drink, and ready to continue onward. If no-one else objects, let's start heading for the shrine!
