Just an idea I was trying to put together for a mini-campaign, any input welcome Start out at Hobbiton in the Shire. Everyone plays a level 1 Hobbit (perhaps use Holmes basic ruleset) Sandbox style, pre-war. With some trouble seeping into the area, suspected to be coming from the Old Forest. Starting equipment very sparse: Roll on a d6 table to determine 1 starting weapon 1. dagger 2. dagger 3. shortbow w/10 arrows 4. short sword 5. spear 6. shovel Roll on a d6 to determine 1 armor piece 1. padded 2. padded 3. leather 4. leather 5. small round wooden shield 6. chain shirt AC7 Roll twice on equipment list 1d10 1. 50' rope 2. Four torches w/flint/steel 3. large sack 4. leather backpack 5. two iron spikes 6. Six tallow candles 7. staff 8. bullseye lantern w/flint steel9. bedroll 10. wool blanket You also rcv 2 days rations and a waterskin ---------------------------------------------------------------- Also rolled up an NPC (using 3d6 arrange in any order B/X ruleset) Stout Will1st level Hobbit STR 13 INT 9 WIS 7 DEX 12 CON 14 CHR 11 HIT POINTS 6 (I rolled for this, discarding any 1 or 2 rolled)AC 8 ALIGNMENT LAWFUL ARMOR: Small round wooden shield EQUIPMENT: Dagger, wool blanket, 6 tallow candles, waterskin, 2 days rations SAVING THROWS: DEATH RAY 10, WANDS 11, PARALYSIS 12, DRAGON BREATH 13 SPELLS 14 DEMEANOR: Will is a rather boisterous overweight Hobbit. He is prone to saying the wrong thing and getting in fights at times,

Neat idea! I think it could be applied to any single race as well: Elves out of Lorien or Rivendell, Dwarves from the Iron Hills, Men from Mirkwood, Rohan, or Gondor.

What an awesome campaign idea this is! Start as hobbits in the Shire, then the next session switch to elves, then dwarves, different Men, etc., weaving back and forth to some epic conclusion! The only change I'd make, given the time-period, is for the elves to be out of Mirkwood. scaly, how do you see it moving forward? I mean, it doesn't seem like characters would be the normal "adventuring party", so what would focus them?

Just some more rough ideas, and an answer to Keshers thoughts.
This would of course borrow off of the books, but...
Stage 1 - the all hobbit party starts off from Hobbiton/The shire on a simple mission/adventure into the Old Forest. There have been attacks on local farms etc. They hear of a supposed ruined tower that exists somewhere on a hill within the forest from an elder. They go to investigate believing that the purpatrators may be dwelling within. They find the ruined tower and kill a few Orcs, a giant spider etc within and recover some stolen property. Investigating the ancient tower further they find a trapdoor that leads into a hidden library/study of sorts. They find an ancient tome written in an outdated language and an odd looking relic, an ornate bronze girdle that looks like it is part of something larger.
Stage 2 - perplexed by the tome and girdle they journey out several days to seek out the only Wizard known to the Shirefolk. The Wizard is shocked by the find, and reads the tome with interest. The girdle is part of a relic of power called the Mannequin of Oreleth. The Wizard is also aware of a recent brazen attack versus the Elvin King of Mirkwood. The thieves stole only a golden breastplate of unknown antiquity and left the rest. From reading the tome he is convinced the theft is related to the Mannequin and a greater plot is at play.
Stage 3 - could involve a council of the races to collaborate their knowledge of where these items may exist. Some tomb type dungeons, and goblin caves adventures could spark from this etc.

Did this game ever happen? The concept is so darned cool and I just wondered if anyone ended up running with it... Hi, yes this game happened quite awhile back. I ran two sessions via Google +. Four players + DM each session, which were each about 3 hours long. LL+AEC. We went with a mixed party instead of all Hobbits. I will try and find my notes and write up a summary at some point. Long live Middle Earth! The party consisted of Black Thom the Hobbit Thief, Mim the Dwarf, Roderick the Woodsman, and Smithwulf the Wizard of Lossoth
