I hesitated to post this, since the trailer alone has about a dozen sticking points for purists, but I AM PSYCHED.

Dwarves' personal stylist seems to be Wayne Reynolds.

You got me: I said that exactly for that reason. ;D Clothes, colour palette and weapons' shape remind him a lot.

"Not fair! NOT FAIR! We still has to waits a WHOLE YEAR to sees it! He TOYS with us, the nassssty Kiwi Hobbit..!"
Seriously, I'm really looking forward to it! It'll be very interesting to see how they handle the Dwarves. One of my first thoughts on hearing they were taking this on was 'how do you make all of Thorin and Company individual characters in their own right?'
And of course, THE HOBBIT'S a very different book from THE LORD OF THE RINGS. A lot more humour for one thing, though the trailer seems to hint they're not shying away from that, which I think is important.
All in all, very excited. An exhalt to you for posting it!

I'm sure that there are purists who will complain, but I'm really looking forward to these movies. Whether or not they exactly follow the book, they still look amazing and I can't wait to see Smaug...

I always pictured Smaug as a classic Elmore-style D&D red dragon... right down to his bite/claw/tail attacks!

Talking seriously, PJ shows his very first poetic license in this trailer: Galadriel.
As far as I remember, she's not in the book; BTW, maybe PJ has put her in the movie just for a White Council scene.

Which, especially given that the non-Tolkien-reading fans have seen LotR first, makes a lot of sense to me.

I'm counting down the days until my butt is in the seat and eating over-priced popcorn. I liked LOTR and this doesn't look to disappoint, purists be d**ned.

The 2 films cover not only the Hobbit book, but also the period between that and LotR, for example when the White Council are deciding what to do about the Necromancer in Mirkwood. I don't think that either film will exclusively cover the events of The Hobbit though, and I'm sure there will be plenty of 'non-canon' moments, but I am looking forward to them immensely

PJ said there won't be smoochy scenes, but the presence of Tauriel aka Evangeline Lilly - who basically replaces Arwen aka Liv Tyler - still confuses me (although it's necessary to sell the product better).

Who's Tauriel--I've never heard that name before! And for the record, I wanna see Galadriel smooch Gandalf...

Who's Tauriel--I've never heard that name before! Completely new character played by the actress who played Kate on Lost. I think the studio decided the Dwarves needed a Snow White...

You know, in my head that song was never inspired by Gregorian chant, but hearing it like that just sense shivers down my spine! I am honestly much more excited about this than I was about LOTR. Something about The Hobbit just seems more conducive to film to me.

I don't know; I can see dwarves using plain-chant for songs.
And, yes, PJ is adding in the whole "Necromancer in Mirkwood/Whote Council" subplot from other works.
