The campaign takes place in the hegemony of the City State of Verbosh. Verbosh sits astride the Great Source, the mightiest river on the continent, and dominates the fertile plains between two mountain ranges. It is a walled city of 1500-2000 people in the middle of vast tracts of farmland. A powerful central keep protects the ruler and houses his troops. Verbosh used to be a herditary monarchy, but is now led by an enterprising adventurer and powerful fighter who rules by force and his riches. The citizens of Verbosh are mostly mercantile or military, and usually very well off.
Just outside the city is the village of Verbosh, where a daily market is held and goods flow in from the surrounding contryside. Humans generally cling to individual settlements with enough manpower to ward off small monster raids, but most of the land is unsettled and dangerous.
The climate of the land is temperate, with cold, snowy winters and hot, dry summers. Because it is surrounded by mountain ranges, the weather is unpredictable.
Among the numerous petty gods, there are four main gods of Verbosh
The Order of the Spider worship Yezud the Spider God. They believe that insects will ultimately conquer the world, and only the spiders that prey on insects will keep humanity from being over run. The Order is a joyless group that preaches obedience above all else. They refrain from fornication and eat no meat. Their centre of power is in Verbosh itself, where they are virtual co-rulers of the city. They satisfy their god's need for human sacrifices by feeding him the condemned criminals and enemies of the City Sate. They are rumored to have some power over spiders.
A new deity, strong in the north around Warrenburg and making headway daily, is Nike, the Goddess of Victory. Most of her clerics are women, though they have a smattering of men in the ranks. These face some political difficulties in advancement to positions of importance. Many feel that the blessing of the Goddess of Victory is worth the prejudices that may occur.
CHAOS GODS The oldest deity is Le Thoc, god of the Western mountains. His following is mostly in the countryside, and the north. He welcomes anybody that loves, respects and protects the mountains.
A recent comer is Tyr, God of War. His followers have penetrated all the way to Verbosh itself. The clerics of Tyr are reknowned for their charismatic ways and berserkergang in battle. They have an affinity for bears.
Edyrn finds Hector and pays 15sp for three nights' storage of his armor, spear, crossbow and quarrels.
Then: "Daisy and I will head into the city with you." says a teary eyed Brumbar between chuckles. "You are welcome to store some of your gear on Daisy".
I would let Edryn take back his action if he wanted and take advantage of this offer - it only makes sense. We are bound by the constraints of playing on a forum with different members accessing it at different times. Let's all make it work together.
We have a prologue theread open and a Chapter 1 thread open. I am allowing both of them to go on. Thus you could be adventuring in the city and swapping lies at the inn at the same time. Since there is some run on in a forum environment, this is to allow everybody to feel they have had ample opportunity to participate.
What if action has to be taken and you are not there? In general, I will assign a default action to your character, but in some cases I will stop the action until all have responded. Sometimes I may even pretend the character does not exist for that brief moment in time. Giving me SOP for your character or party is very welcomed.
SECRETS PM me ANY time you want to clarify something privately. PM me any time you want to do something in secret - it is NOT deceit, it's just taking advantage of the medium (it was so hard to scoop those gems as a thief when everybody else was in the room!)
