One of my favorite adventure themes this time of year is the Halloween dungeon.
I like to toss characters into some sort of setting specifically taylored to cheezy cinematic Halloween monsters -- vampires, mummies, werewolves, and the like -- and specifically steer away from the "traditional" orcs and ogres.
Anyone else run this sort of themed dungeon this time of year? Any stories worthy of telling around the campfire?

Not OD&D, but once I ran a game using "Amber Diceless" in which the characters were members of a college fraternity which was being attacked by werewolves and vampires. Of course they weren't ready for such things at first but quickly caught on to the fact that all of the monsters were from old movies. Sadly, we didn't get the adventure finished and somehow never got back to it the following Halloween, either. Just another one of those neat ideas that fizzled when it got underway. I've often wanted to do an OD&D adventure along the lines of Vampire$ (with James Woods) where players spend time hunting vampires. They would have to come up with a list of materials to hunt the beasties and invade strongholds, first fighting lesser vampires and later some nasty vampire lord. I think this would be a great Halloween adventure.

I have always thought an adventure centered around either flesh golems or werewolves would be cool. I was thinking that a low level party vs. a werewolf and a wolf pack in defense of their village would be cool.
The flesh golem would of course require a mid range party in levels. I would also have to house rule that the flesh golem was sentient.

A flesh golem, a werewolf, and a vampire would be just the ticket for people in that 5th-7th level range, methinks.

I ran a Dark Conspiracy game set on a space station. the PCs were sent by NASA to discover why there had been no communication from it. They get there only to discover about half way through the place that everyone was dead! Then to their horror the dead rose (floated in ZeroG) to attack them. What fun! I suppose you could adjust that to Gamma World or Metamorphosis Alpha for a sci-fi game. You could work the same thing in a very isolated village as well.....

I try to always, no matter what day of the week it falls on, run a game on Halloween night every year. Vampires, werewolves and undead around every corner, it is fright night in the dungeon, you get at least 12-15 players or more and have at it.

Not d&d but, every year for the last three years I have run a Call of Cthulhu one-shot on or close to halloween.
