Returned to D&D with the 3.0\3.5 rules, but didn't really like them. Returned to older versions about 2 years ago. Ya I tried 3.5 for awhile and didn't really like it either. So now i play s&w:wb, and Spellcraft & Swordplay. I have a copy of Dark Dungeons too that's a clone of the RC. I just like the more free-form rules the older games have, then a rule for EVERY thing. Not to say new D&D is bad I just prefer something simpler. Maybe we should shoot for an upcoming Sunday late afternoon/early evening time slot(?) such as 3pm pst/6pm est start? So far haven't seen too many objections to that Sunday game looks good for me.

Is Orm Orn's brother?
Sunday is workable for me. I have something on the 23rd, but shouldn't have a problem being done by 5pm CST.
Gaming history- Started playing in 1979. AD&D and The Fantasy Trip primarily (two different groups). Graduated high school and that was pretty much it. Played miniature wargames since 1976. In 2008 started looking at my old RPG stuff. Then my Home-Building company went under. Had some free time (ha!) and found the OSR. Played in Pat Armstrong's Online B/X game. Played some Pathfinder since then. I like it, but it seems more game than is necessary. Can't wrap my brain around 4e.
I think LL/BX is probably the best iteration of the game for my tastes. S&W seems a little too sparse for my tastes, but I haven't actually played it so it will be nice to see how it plays.
What exactly do I need from Dragonsfoot for playing? I have Skype.

Dragonsfoot is just used for the dice roller in the chat forum. All you need is a username and password on the site. If you aren't already registered it is free. When the game starts go to forums. I actually have my own private chat room there (Scalydemon's room LLVoicechat). The dice roller is used by typing /roll 1d6+2 or /roll 1d20 etc. Everyone can see the results at the same time. Skype is used for voice. At some point everyone should PM me their Skype usernames so I can add you to my contacts. At the game time just be online on Skype and I set up a group call and call everyone at the same time. You can change your screen name to your name/your character's name to make things easier if you like. ie... Scalydemon/DM or Fools Jest/Ebenezer. You can tell who is talking when their screen icon vibrates - so you don't have to have people's voices memorized When the game gets going and we get to a dungeon, I will post a link in the dragonsfoot chat window that will link you to a map with an underlying sheet of graph paper. You all will be able to see me drawing on it in real time. Here is an example from a recent game: www.dabbleboard.com/draw?b=Guest402977&i=3&c=fa199d3e4eee0e57f3c34d9b4cd39370753141d2It's actually quite easy once we get started. You will just have dragonsfoot minimized unless we are rolling dice, and the map minimized unless you need to look at it. You will be able to focus on roleplaying your characters and hopefully relaxing and enjoying a decent old school RPG - Scaly

One other thing, if you want to see the graph paper look on the map, click on the dabbleboard map link in my last post. When you get it up, click on the gear/cog wheel looking icon on the upper right. Click on 'show grid'. You can also make the page bigger by increasing the listed length and height. You can also add a page - for example if the party finds a stairwell and descends to a 2nd or 3rd dungeon level

Count me in I have the core set of rules only here so will be a bit limited in my class choice... Perhaps I'll do the cleric.

If I'm counting it correctly we have 2 Fighting Men, Magic-User, a likely Cleric and my Ranger? I considered doing a Thief and have rolled one up as a back-up character, and have no problem changing to one. Does the group think we should try to cover the "big 4" bases?

Its up to you, I would just pick whatever class appeals to you more, and in the long run you'll enjoy it more.

Also- I will be rolling up 1 NPC that will be used to supplement the party in a class type that appears underrepresented - and if anyone dies they can take him/her over. I'll look on th calender shortly and look to post some possible date/time slots to see if one can be agreed upon,....let's kick this pig!

Glad you could make it Punga.
Ok here are some possible game time slots. I figure plan on a 3 or 3 1/2 hour game session:
Possible start times: Sunday Feb 13th @3pm pst -or Thursday Feb 17th @5pm pst -or Sunday Feb 20th @3pm pst Realizing there may not be one perfect one where everyone could make it but hopefully we can find one that works for enough people to have a game. Which slot works best for everyone? Thanks

Sunday Feb 13th looks like the best bet for me.
Thursdays are clinical rotation days so schedule unsure, and I have a test on Monday the 21st.

Thursday's my pick, too.
Scaly, I *just* realized there was more than one page to this thread, and thus, only now I noticed that there already was a magic-user. Would you mind if I changed the character to a cleric instead? It'd round up the party rather nicely.

Either of the Sundays works best for me. While I have nothing scheduled at the moment, Thursday could be co-opted by one of my study groups. School has priority... Unlike back in the day huh?

Sorry this game never seemed to materialize If anyone has an interest in playing via Skype voice I run an on-going game , ruleset is LL/AEC (Labyrinth Lord) we play every other Monday eve, start at 5pm pst and go for about 3 hours. Savage Coast is the campaign setting. I mainly run modules from old Dungeon magazines, old White Dwarf mags, Knockspell, Fight On! etc. Please PM me if you have interest and I can provide more detail. Currently characters are 3rd lvl on average. Fun group - Thanks Scaly
