So are Pipsy and Jones searching the bay while Willow stays with the ship?

Pipsy: "Padre, we need a strong back and sharp eyes to help us out over here. Can't you say a prayer or two and let the dead lie?"

Jones: "This gives me the heebies too, chief, so how about we go find a cargo lifter and get this cargo on board quick as we can, then get outta here?"
Jones pats his flamer.
"I don't reckon these stiffs'll give us any trouble. But if they do jump up and start doing the tango, we barbecue 'em."
Jones turns around and follows Pipsy.

After searching the remainder of the bay for a few hours, encountering more machinery and dead bodies, you do find a few more cargo-lifters, some in better condition than the first one you found. However, they all have dead batteries, and it seems unlikely any of the old batteries will hold a charge.
In your search you also discover the bay is apparently outfitted to handle two super-freighter sized ships simultaneously. The bay doors above you are only large enough to admit one super-freighter at a time, but the it seems the bay itself is a type of massive turntable, able to rotate ships beneath the bay door for take-off and landing.
In addition, you discover three more large passageways (roughly 'south', 'west' and 'east' from the illuminated passage) that recede into darkness.

Jones: "This place is massive."
Jones does a rough count of the crates in the hangar.
"Pipsy, what would it cost to rent a freighter that would fit all this gear inside? Maybe we could hit a planet, hire some grunts and gear, then come back and clean this place out?"

Jones: Jones does a rough count of the crates in the hangar. You count about a dozen of the large ore containers and roughly 100 crates of steel bars, just in the landing bay. Who knows what else this complex contains?

Pipsy: "Hmmmm... gotta figure 3+ weeks to get back to civilization, hire a crew and ship, and get back here. I don't like the chances of this trove still being here. Not to mention the price, which is a lot more money than what we have on hand."
[OOC] Just noticed grav belts on the supply list - each lifts 300lbs. Could we burn 4SP for four belts and use them to hustle the steel block-filled crates into the Shame's hold, one at a time? We can fit 25 of the crates in there, right? Could we each use four belts to cut the time required for loading?

[OOC: are the crates, or the bars themselves, marked in any way?]

Edit: Sorry, missed the second part of your question. Each crate is 1,000 lbs and the Shame's cargo hold is 25 tons, so you could load 40 to 50 of the crates in the hold, you figure.

[OOC: are the crates, or the bars themselves, marked in any way?] The crates are marked 'STEEL' and 'Imperial Mining Corporation' along with the corporation's symbol of a red circle within a blue triangle. The bars are stamped with a similar symbol (though without the colors, of course). You're pretty sure this corporation died with the Old Empire.

[OOC]Nice idea, cruss[/OOC] -1 SP for Jones for a grav belt.

Pipsy pulls seven grav belts out of his backpocket of holding (-7SP), and hands three to Jones...
[OOC] I think that leaves me with 11SP?
"Padre, you wanna keep an eye out for creepy-crawlies? I've got some more belts if you wanna grab a box instead."
Pipsy checks inside the nearest box labeled STEEL, making sure it contains what he says it does, then hooks up the belts to lift it. Once it's up, he'll maneuver the box into the Shame's hold.

However, 1,000 lb crates still have mass and inertia (once you get one moving), so you'll need at least two people to maneuver each crate safely. It'll take you about 5-6 hours to fill the Shame's cargo bay. If you want to rush, you can get it done in 2-3 hours, but there's some chance with each crate moved that a mishap could occur.

Willow of the Diviner:"Padre, you wanna keep an eye out for creepy-crawlies? I've got some more belts if you wanna grab a box instead." "I will help if required. But I feel someone should keep watch, in any case."

Pipsy: "Padre you keep watch."
Pipsy unburns 4SP (back to 15SP) and helps Jones wrestle boxes into the hold. Each one is checked to make sure there are no surprises inside.

Each crate contains steel bars, as anticipated. You proceed with the task of transferring crates to the Shame's hold. Though the belts make each crate incredibly light, you still manage to work up a bit of a sweat in the cold air.
The cargo hold is about 2/3 full when Willow spots a light approaching the ship from the direction of the illuminated tunnel. He murmurs a warning and you stop what you're doing to ready your weapons.
A few moments later a wizened old elf enters steps into the bright glare of the Shame's hull lights, an electric lantern held high in his hand. "Ah, I thought I heard something out here. Who are you, and what are you doing here?" he asks, tersely. Looking into his eyes, you see they are milky white. He seems to be blind, or nearly so.

Pipsy: "Uh, everything's under control. Situation normal. Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you? We had a reactor leak here now. Give us a few minutes to lock it down. Large leak, very dangerous.
"Do you have any valuables? We should scan them for contamination, just show us the way, Mr....?"

Willow of the Diviner looks to see if he's just very old, or actually undead.
Assuming the elf is alive, he says
"I would first ask the same of you, who dwells in a hall of corpses."

While Pipsy and Willow chat with the old codger, Jones turns off his head lamp, gets down low behind a crate, and attempts to circle around and flank Grandpa Elf without him noticing.

"I am Gideon, the caretaker of this facility, going on near 80 years. I ask again, who are you and what is your purpose here?"
Jones easily sneaks around behind the old elf.

Pipsy: "Gideon? GIDEON!!! Right, of course! Gideon! We're here from Imperial Mining Corporation, Security Division. I'm Vice Galaxian Smallbowls. We're here to relieve you. You've been promoted! You did such a great job here, they're sending you off to oversee R&R on pleasure world Orgasma IV. Lucky dude!
"So, ah, if you'll just show us around while we debrief you, we can get you on your way..."

He tips his head towards the illuminated passage across the loading bay. "The control center is this way."

Pipsy: "Nice looking place you got here, Gideon. So, ah... what's with all the bodies? Oh, and IMC Security wanted us to check out the Purser's Office first thing, and then if you could show us to the payroll vault or the cashier's office at the PX... you know the home office: paperwork, paperwork, paperwork!"
