I agree with almost all of that. With the exception of the Eastern Alliance, which was lazy writing: Nazis in Spaaaaacccceee! *eyeroll*

I liked the addition of another spacefaring empire in the BSG universe, and I didn’t think it was a very heavyhanded Nazi analogue. It was aesthetically vaguely German, but no heils or goosestepping or Roman salutes or swastikas or holocaust that I can recall. If anything, it was understood by contemporary audiences as a Soviet Union parable (the main episode about them is all about mutually assured destruction). Television during the Cold War featured a steady stream of miscellaneous fictional dictatorships (along with fake “European” accents) in order to grapple with the issues of the day without getting accused of anti-Soviet propaganda. Here they at least bothered to design them a spaceship!

Yeah, the Easter Alliance's ship was schweet! I got the impression they were going for Nazis, but you're right: it was probably more likely to be Russkies. Good call.

Never seen the old one. The new one I've seen some episodes of, but I just couldn't get into it no matter how much I wanted. Almost every scene left me thinking "there is absolutely no set of believable motivations or circumstances that would make this character say/do what they just did".

I really like that space-nazi warship form Baltar's Escape and Experiment in Terra, parts 1&2 (could they even bother to give the d**n ship a proper name or class?). Than again, I usually like space-nazi spaceships and uniforms (The Galactic Empire, The Visitors, The Principality of Zeon, The Mobile Infantry, The Goldenbaum Dynasty, etc., etc., etc. ). I remember the episodes it was in, but I hated the rest of it — mostly with those annoying robots. (you can find info on the "Totally Not a BSG Spacehip" model-kit here)Years ago, someone took four episodes related to the "Terra" story arc ( Greetings from Earth, Baltar's Escape, and Experiment in Terra) and made it into a 2 hour+ TV movie called Brothers of Man. The stories were tighten to a cohesive whole and much of the robot dialog was cut down drastically (to a way more tolerable level). Some additional elements were added or altered to fit the story into the overall plot of the series, as well as some Star Wars-styled digitally remastered combat scenes here and there (both of which may or may not feel superfluous). It is a bit to watch in one sitting, but well worth it.
