I just posted this system on the Huge Ruined Pile blog comments. I figured it would be worthwhile to offer it here, and people could comment.
A quick fix OD&D patch for the unified Swords & Wizardry saving throw;
Poison = Save # -4 Wand = Save # -3 Paralysis = Save # -2 Breath = Save # -1 Spell = Save # -0
Not as baroque as the traditional numbers, but it's streamlined down to a system that approximates the original intent of the saves categories, IMHO.
Note: I deferred to terms mentioned in S&W, such as "Paralysis" and not "Stone", for example.

PART II:
Here's an option for getting Saving Throws based on the 3 core classes of OD&D:
• Every class starts with a 16 base Save. • Follow the modifier progression of the 5 Saves (explained in the above post). • Add the modifiers granted by character Class (see below).
FIGHTING - MAN: +1 vs Breath MAGIC - USER: +1 vs Paralysis and Spells CLERIC: +1 vs Poison, Wands, and Spells
The base Saving Throw, and the save modifiers, are different than the ones in S&W, but the results are a very close approximation (within 1) of the OD&D save tables. Any erudite observations or comments?
