Session #19
Thorax waits around Murky Street as the baker prepares his special loaf. Getting the item, the druid decides to look for his friend Proteus 6. He eventually saunters over to the Slave Market Plaza, where he finds an outline of a blood-stained body with tracks appearing to be dragged away, gradually fading. He asks bystanders about the blood, receiving only shrugs. He returns to the scene and finds a staff with an antler at the end it, appearing to have grown into it.
Tig and Delva go to the city gate to meet with a coaching line crew, looking for information on how to buy or construct a coach of their own. They were told of the Carpenters' Guild, located on Ox-Cart Road. The guys head north along Twilight Street and run into foppishly dressed men with armor and brightly colored feathers streaming from their helms. The insulting constables heap on the abuse, but Delva amused them with his humor and offered them a round of drinks. Never ones to turn down free alcohol, the constables announced they were about to end their shift anyway, and led the party to Lefty's, insulting other bystanders and pedestrians along the way.
The guys decide to start a drinking contest with some constables and bar patron. Tig drops out in the first round, stunning all the humans in the tavern. To further the shock, Delva wins the drinking contest. The crowd roars in surprise at the thought of an elf winning. Tig, not done, raises the stakes to a platinum piece for the next drinking contest. Tig wipes out completely, passes out and loses control of all his sphincters. The constables decide this was a great time to use the indelible ink they've found. The unconscious dwarf gets insults written over his face, furthering his shame.
Thorax decides to head down Festival Street, on his way to the Plaza of Profuse Pleasures. Stopping into a furrier's shop, the druid insults the owner for his profession. Strutting out of the shop, he doesn't hear the thundering footsteps behind him. Only the shadow overhead eclipsing the sun and the massive hand clamping down on his shoulder told him of the peril he faced. A hill giant looked at him sternly. "You said bad things about my boss." Thorax tried to justify his actions, as the giant noticed a piece of the loaf sticking out of a backpack. He demanded a piece, and Thorax obliged. The giant wanted all of the loaf, and Thorax refused. Fleeing, Thorax hears the giant yelling at him to stop. He then sees a woman landing right by him; she lands in a crumpled mess as many of her bones look broken. Continuing to run, Thorax ducks what appears to be a flying bartender hurtling through the air at him. He evades the giant's pedestrian missiles by ducking into an alley.
Heading back to the Blue Dolphin Inn, Tig and Delva see a familiar face. Silas limps up to them with a new bodyguard, a troll. The old one is gone, and Silas looks like he's had a rough go of it in the City-State. Silas' head is bandaged, blood seeping from underneath it. In addition to his noticeable limp, his left hand has been replaced by a metal hook. He has three possible buyers for the black sapphire. One is the daughter of a citizen. The second is a man named Oldenhaller, a wealthy merchant. The third is supposedly someone "who lives life to the fullest."
A squad of guards questions them, asking if they know of any hill giants running amok in the Plaza of Profuse Pleasures. The party denies any knowledge but gets to talking with the guards, who mention a party at Big Reg's going down tonight. Silas confirms that is the name of the third possible buyer.
Thorax gets another loaf from the baker, gets a room at the Blue Dolphin, and then finds constables to complain to about his near-death experience with the furrier's giant. The constables ignore him and try to shoo him away. Thorax sasses a them a bit too much and winds up arrested for his troubles. He gets dragged through the streets and gets tossed into the slammer.
The party follows Silas to a shop filled with elven women who give Tig and Beth a makeover. While Beth's exfoliation took much longer than Tig's, the guys met with Brynn Winderhouse at the Regal Beagle, one of the finer dining establishments. Seeing her bodyguard Matthias get verbally abused by the shrew, the party sits through her examination of the sapphire. Brynn offered a few thousand gold for the gem, plus more if the party helps out in a land some distance off. The party says they will be in touch with her. Matthias mouths "Help me" as Tig tosses him a gold piece and tells him they're staying at the Blue Dolphin.
In his cell, Thorax finds a follower in an insane goblin who repeats everything the druid does and says. Hatching a plan to set the entire City-State aflame, the druid gets the goblin to jump up and down about the cell, yelling for fire. Upon the threat of a jailhouse beating, Thorax quickly quiets the goblin down so other cellmates can sleep.
Returning to Bethesda, the guys see her looking FINE. They decide to speak to Big Reg. Going to the Plaza of Profuse Pleasures, Silas says the place is nearby. Two giants guard the door and bring out a weasly looking man who speaks with Silas. The dwarven thief utters a coded sentence and the party is let in.
Inside, all manner of debauchery, excess, and delights is going on. The senses reeled at the carnival of experiences within. They decided to watch the smorgasbord from one of the many overlooking balconies in the main hall. Delva decides to wow a band of blind men in a balcony, and the response causes such a stir, a group of constables investigates. The head constable makes a proposition to Delva, who politely refuses. The constable reminds him that public fornication is a crime punishable by imprisonment, but he could make it all go away.
Delva talks the constable into letting Beth watch. He convinces the man to let himself be shackled and blindfolded, then drugs him. When the head constable starts singing Ethel Merman songs and shouting about how pretty he feels, the rest of the constables come in and break up the party.
