On Friday I will be running a bunch of Eurogamers in D&D. They have never played before, except my one friend who has been playing AD&D and then BECMI forever. Going to use Under Xylarthen's Tower, with James' rules for previous xp, and I will generate pre-mades already equipped and spell-selected.
Unfortunately, after looking at all my options (I own OD&D, Holmes, B/X, BECMI, Rules Cyclopedia, AD&D 1st, 3rd Edition, S&W, S&W White Box, Labyrinth Lord, Osric and a few others!) I decided that Moldvay/Cook B/X would be my system. Sorry all! I just felt OD&D would be too loose for this group.

Late to the party but how did that go? I've thought about using the same adventure but what table did you use for previous experience?

There is a table in the back of the adventure which lists experience based on your prime req and a random dice roll
Characters were a 2nd level elf, a 5th level dwarf, a 4th level cleric, a white ape and a 4th level thief. They used a lot of scouting, managed by sheer luck to find the way to the pair of dragons on level 4, and killed them with only one death (the elf)

That sounds like fun. I'm playing B/X-LL myself and was thinking of dropping this module into the map and seeing if anyone wants to visit. B/X is my system of choice, too, I must say. However, it could be simply because I have it hardwired into my brain (not literally). Had I started with OD&D, it would probably be different.
