Its a dangerous game world, but I want to keep playing. Please roll me up a new character. Heartless wants to try another Elvish Templar. Due to the popularity of this class, I have added an Elvish Templar class to the very first post in the character generation thread here . Enjoy.

I just wanted to say Happy Birthday, waysoftheearth. Have a good one. Hey, happy birthday from me, too! Hope it's a good one! (Or was. I'm a little hazy on the whole time difference thing...)

Just something I thought was interesting. Here are the probabilities for 3dd:
2: 3 ( 1.39%) 3: 10 ( 4.63%) 4: 30 (13.89%) 5: 42 (19.44%) 6: 82 (37.96%) 8: 15 ( 6.94%) 9: 1 ( 0.46%) 10: 15 ( 6.94%) 12: 16 ( 7.41%) 15: 1 ( 0.46%) 18: 1 ( 0.46%)

Yes, one thing I kind of like about the dd system is that there is a small chance of rolling huge damage. I read it as critical damage built into the regular damage roll.

Ruby script
#!/usr/bin/env ruby class Roll attr_accessor :value def initialize(*args) @args = args @value = calculate_value end def calculate_value dict = {} 1.upto(6) { |i| dict[i] = 0 } @args.each { |i| dict[i] += i } dict.values.max end def to_s "(#{@args.join ','}) = #{@value}" end end values = {} count = 0 1.upto 6 do |x| 1.upto 6 do |y| 1.upto 6 do |z| roll = Roll.new x,y,z count += 1 if values[roll.value].nil? values[roll.value] = 1 else values[roll.value] += 1 end end end end values.keys.sort.each do |k| printf("%2d: %2d (%5.2f%%)\n", k, values[k], (values[k].to_f / count.to_f) * 100.0) end
Modifying the code, I generated these results:
2dd:
2: 18 ( 8.33%) 3: 24 (11.11%) 4: 42 (19.44%) 5: 48 (22.22%) 6: 66 (30.56%) 8: 6 ( 2.78%) 10: 6 ( 2.78%) 12: 6 ( 2.78%)
4dd:
3: 20 ( 1.54%) 4: 95 ( 7.33%) 5: 172 (13.27%) 6: 492 (37.96%) 8: 139 (10.73%) 9: 20 ( 1.54%) 10: 144 (11.11%) 12: 171 (13.19%) 15: 20 ( 1.54%) 16: 1 ( 0.08%) 18: 20 ( 1.54%) 20: 1 ( 0.08%) 24: 1 ( 0.08%)
5dd:
3: 20 ( 0.26%) 4: 245 ( 3.15%) 5: 576 ( 7.41%) 6: 2505 (32.21%) 8: 1005 (12.92%) 9: 230 ( 2.96%) 10: 1111 (14.29%) 12: 1505 (19.35%) 15: 251 ( 3.23%) 16: 25 ( 0.32%) 18: 250 ( 3.22%) 20: 26 ( 0.33%) 24: 25 ( 0.32%) 25: 1 ( 0.01%) 30: 1 ( 0.01%)

I don't really understand ruby, but the results look about right. Very interesting indeed, thanks Verhaden. Will your script calculate 10dd?

FYI -- It appears that Dieter is (just) leading the way with a total of 638 XP.
Pretty close to one third of the way to 2nd level! (excluding treasure won so far, of course)

I vote for returning to Ket and leave the spider for when we return. We already have more treasure than we can carry and a few of us may reach 2nd level when we get the xp for the loot. That being said, returning to Ket with huge amounts of treasure may not be that simple. As stated in game I think the best thing to do with the goblins is to lock them up separately in the cells. I doubt bringing them in as prisoners to goblin-controlled Ket will be looked at favorably.

I posted my idea of a plan in The Blockade thread..."hiring the prisoners to guard the many hordes of treasure we've buried around the outside of the Keep." Sure they'll turn on us and tell the hobs that are bound to show up, but we have left some treasure and some supplies, so when they find that they'll waste days looking for the rest of the treasure that we didn't bury. And misdirections about where we're going and why and we just might generate enough die mods to get away from here back to Ket clean.

We already have more treasure than we can carry Perhaps that's why nobody looted the Hobgoblins who fell in the first battle at the ruined tower, and why nobody investigated the fallen or the camp after the battle at the Hobgoblin works? a few of us may reach 2nd level when we get the xp for the loot. Hmmm, well you've scored a couple of "lair" treasures (the modest Spider's lair, and the richer Water Weird's horde), but the rest of the loot has been incidental pickings. It all depends how you divide the loot up of course, but 2nd level looks all the less likely without looting every last copper coin... let alone Bolgog's gear.

I thought the dead had already been stripped clean before we buried them? Perhaps not, I was out of touch at that point. Looking back at the posts I see the only graves that were mentioned as being dug were those for the two templars. Is this correct?

Yes, only the two slain PCs were buried.
Half a dozen Hobgoblin corpses were left in the courtyard, and half a dozen more down the hill at the works.

Was going to say that you were my nephew, that your parents had died, and left you without a trade. But then I figured finding a woman would be a pretty reasonable excuse to a guard to get into a town.

T'was a reasonably story, though the guard may have thought it curious that a fellow wearing a stout hide carapace, carrying a large axe, and be adorned with a big shiny belt of copper and brass clasps would have any interest in mud farming... but it got you in

Hey guys, we seem to be missing a couple of regular contributors lately so the game has slowed up some.
I am still keen, and I haven't heard otherwise, so I'm assuming for now that both Danhem and Harry are still interested. Tonneau has just joined the game too, so hopefully we'll see some more adventure happening shortly...

I'm on vacation, been traveling, just got back, relatives visiting for the next two weeks, then I'll be traveling again, my Mom has an operation scheduled on August 8th, and I'll be in pre-planning for school by August 18th. If I'm quiet, or my posts are short, for the next month it isn't because I'm not interesting and enjoying the game. I really am enjoying it very much!

Are we all ready to get a room and divide the loot (and XP!) from the first adventure? The taverns you currently know of around town are;
- The Jolly Noose frequented by merchant Men, right off the market place,
- The Executioner's Axe frequented by Snorks, right off the market place,
- The Plow and Furrow frequented by farm Men, near the front gate.

(I'm too lazy to look it up.)

Gentlemen, let's move this into the closer of The Jolly Noose or the Plow and Furrow. I'm guessing that is The Jolly Noose.
We, not only need to divide the treasure, but also discuss how we are going to convert, secure and use it.
1. Does this town have a bank or secure storehouse? 2. Armor, weapons and magic shops? 3. Henchmen? 4. Payoffs to the powers that be, here in Ket? And just *who* are they? 5. Allies...we could use allies here in Ket!
We also need information which will probably cost money to obtain. One thing we do know is that our 'One Eyed Jack' story has already gotten to town and seeing as we *only* told our two employees that story...then they have turned already...and that the Snorks were behind the blockade on the road. Do the merchant's guild know what, at least, some of the Snorks are up to?
What, are we going to do about this? If we can't make Ket a safe base of operations for our explorations (and looting) then we're going to eventually end up hanging from a gibbet in the square, having our throats cut in our sleep, or simply being ambushed and overwhelmed by the Snork's minions.
