I'm pretty psyched about this. I hadn't heard about the Asylum pic. Asylum gets a lot of flack, but they've really improved their writing and acting pool in the last few years.
That said i would probably skip anything filmed before Monster.

When I see that Traci Lords is playing the Princess, something just seems less than "mainstream ERB" to me. 2. Are those spiders in the movie poster? Thanks for the heads-up, however. It'll give me something to look for...

The costume for Dejah Thoris in the Asylum one looks like it's influenced by the Conan movie.
FIN EDIT: Fixed a typo of "Thoris"

Looks like a "direct to video" production. That will save me money, as well. :-)
Hard to imagine Dejah Thoris as a blonde.....

The costume for Dejah Thoris in the Asylum one looks like it's influenced by the Conan movie. Dude, that is Leia's top from Return of the Jedi! On top of that, Tars Tarkas only has two arms! They could not chip in for a set of CGI arms? I have seen low budget films that somehow use quality CGI effects! Somehow, it feels too much like a SyFy original. You know they are desperate, when their slogan is: "The classic story that inspired James Cameron's AVATAR" By the way, I'm still holding out for Pixar's Princess of Mars movie. I also hope they don't cut back, like they did with The Incredibles (I kinda like the original - slightly more mature - storyline). I'm not asking for everyone to run around naked (like anyone really needs to see Thark's junk), but topless Martian Princesses would really make my day! ;D

I'm Ok with two armed Tharks. Tharks should be on screen for a big part of the movie, and if they didn't look just right the movie would be pretty unbearable. I don't know if I can accept bipedal Thoats, however.
Still looks to be worth a Netflix rental to me. I guess I'll find out in a few weeks.

I don't know about that one. I've had my doubts about the pixar one as well but I'm getting a better feeling about it. We'll see though. I never realized there was planned an earlier animated version in the 30's. At least the got the creatures correct: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTAlgZlqwnQ
