From the AD&D DMG:
Dimwall the magic-user Drudge the fighter Gonzo the ranger Aggro the Axe, 4th level fighter Abner, 5th level magic-user Arkayn, 4th level cleric Arlanni, 2nd level thief Gutboy Barrelhouse, 6th level dwarf fighter Balto, 1st level monk Blastum, 4th level magic user Barjin, 4th/5th level fighter/magic-user Celowin Silvershield, fighter Llewellyn ap-Owen, a wizard of high repute Tregellish Mul, warlock, ap-Owen's henchman
(That's working backward, up to p.56 - more later perhaps!)
EDIT: Redouleent the Prestidigitator, intelligence 15

Thank you!!!
Another obtuse resource I hadn't realized I'd needed desperately until this very moment!
The dramatis personae of the alternate prime "Examplandia"!

Sadly, this leaves me without names for the druid, paladin, and assassin for the AD&D game I'm running at Anonycon. Surely these classes are not wholly unknown in Examplandia!

Hey, this is a really neat idea. I like to put "in jokes" into my campaigns to amuse myself, even if my players don't understand them, and making these NPCs would be really neat!
Continue the list, and have an EXALT!

Thanks!
I believe that's all the ones from the AD&D DMG. Where else might example names be found?

Leave us not forget Emirikol the Chaotic.... Sorry if the spelling is off, but how could you forget that awesome illustration!

Hah. I only just now realized that "Drawmij" is Jim Ward spelled backwards...

I exalt thee, graymouser, for excavating those seriously gnarly names - and also showing me where Philotomy got his nick!

I exalt thee, graymouser, for excavating those seriously gnarly names - and also showing me where Philotomy got his nick! Heh, no problem. I always thought EGG was at his peak when he came up with "Gleep Wurp the Eyebiter"! Lots of good High Gygaxian names in those rosters.

Some examples from Holmes' box set, likely from his campaign rather than Gygax's but hey, whatever: Malchor the magic-user, p. 9, 13, 21 Drego the thief, p. 12 Bruno the Battler, p. 21 Mogo the Mighty, p. 21 the Priestess Clarissa, p. 21 Lemunda the Lovely (NPC), p. 43

Fa ge the Kexy. And "Sh it," just because I enjoy giving language filters the finger. (Sorry - I just couldn't resist.) Gary nicked a lot of those from old words that have fallen out of use, as found in the book Poplollies and Bellibones: A Celebration of Lost Words. They all mean stuff.
