While the others were focused on the approach to the ruins, Jochi has been sulking near the horses but watching their progress. Once no eyes are on him, he slips over to the dead bodies and places one of his octagonal coins into the mouths of each of his dead friends and closes their fingers around another one.
"I'll bury you if I can," he promises, "but if not here's payment for the traveler who finds you and does what I could not, and spending money when you reach the afterlife."
Then he readies his bow and heads for the ruins, carefully following the path that was safe at least a few minutes ago.
Zulayman begins to grab a torch, then hesitating, stops and tightens his grip on his bow and arrow.
"Perhaps this place is all that remains of the verdant lands described in the documents from the barn." he posits to Yusuf. "But if the plants mean water, no doubt other things may have been attracted here.... Unless some enchantment keeps the plants alive." he adds sourly.
"Your thinking matches mine." Yusuf says, "But if water be here, we should find it."
Zulayman stays a few paces behind Yusuf, covering him with his bow. He studies the vines from a distance, wondering if his training would help identify the plants.. and to see if the vines move in an unnatural way.
Yusuf appreciates Zulayman covering his back.

Zulayman looks at Isuel then sheepishly replies, "I fear I have no flint with which to ignite the torch. Take the torch from my pack if you will, I would rather continue being vigilant."

Iseul will pick one of the torches from Zulayman's pack and light it. With the torch lit he will check the stairs for any traps first. If it looks safe enough he will carefully descend down the stairs trying not to make too much noise and listening intently for any sounds of movement below.

Rollo follows Jochi anxiously, after a last prayer for the deads - thinking to his own future. "How many of us did we see fall in this desert? Their bones will dry forever, that's a pity.... Maybe are we the next one, Jochi?"
