Hiya Folks, While searching for some more nostalgia I came across this little oddity from a 1983 sears catalogue. The covers on the AD&D books being sold are ones I have NEVER seen before and the spines are red & green still using the yellow slip on the corner as well. Has anyone seen these before?. Take as looksee. belowthemoutain.blogspot.com/

Hmm, I see what you mean. I checked www.acaeum.com to see if it was listed, but I couldn't find it. I'm not a member of their forum, but someone over there might be able to help you out.

It's possible these are pictures of mock-ups TSR sent out as part of a press packet.

I used to have a few notebooks with artwork similar to what I can make out on the D&D Player's Aids ... I haven't seen anything quite like them -- until today at you link. I got them for Christmas from my grandma, and come to think of it, she DID do a lot of X-mas shopping via 'Ye Olde Wish Book'.

The books in the displayed in the Sears 1983 catalogue are the re-release of AD&D which we know have orange spines. It cannot be the earlier books because their spines are not red or green. Also if you look at the cover which can be seen It's an alternate cover of the Monster Manual II, look at the axe its not held the same. I think Debeers had it right, its just a mock up press pack, with just demo covers before the final print, and sears printed it by mistake.

When I was at GenCon I saw some AD&D Monster Manuals and Player's Handbooks that were softback instead of hardback. I had never heard of such things, but the lady in the booth insisted that they were issued that way in England back in the 1970's.
I didn't buy one, but the concept was interesting.

Fin, I passed on those softcover books, too...now I wish I hadn't! I did some research and they were, indeed, UK printings of the books.
I didn't realize you were at Gen Con! d**n; would've been nice to meet up.
