Hrahyosh, who has been looking down into the pit all this time, looks up and says, "If that's all done, why don't 1 or 2 of us go to the gate with the dlaqo (OOC: if 1-2 can carry it - otherwise maybe a piece of it) and show it and explain about the pit entry. Tell them we stayed behind to be sure that no others would utilize it to plunder his wares, and that you can lead back a party of workmen to put a temporary "lock" on the open door. I think that should satisfy him. We can offer to go into the Tsuru'um searching after any treasures the beast may have dragged down there, if we had some more rope and other equipment. Or not."
He settles down next to the hole again, watching. He rigs his own lantern on the rope, and lets it down about 20 feet, so that he can clearly see the bottom of the shaft.

"Salarvyani are not to be trusted," says Teregash. "It is well that you are suspicious, Do'olnar. But if there are only three warriors there, we together can put and end to them."

Issa frowns as she considers the words of the sorcerer-priest. "Are we in danger? I have heard stories of hidden passages where the builders and architects are murdered to keep them secret. If we tell him what we have seen, will Hritsekkash kill us to keep this tunnel secret?"
"In any case, I will volunteer to stay here until the others return."

Hrahyosh mumbles something in clipped Pechani and then looks up from the pit and says, "I will also stay at the pit." He then takes his position back at the lip of the pit. Staring down within.

"I need no further healing," says Teregash. "Pain pleases Chiteng." With that he gathers up the beetle, ready to carry out of the warehouse.

Issa clambers back atop some of the crates. She keeps a watchful eye out for any motion in the warehouse. She leaves watching the pit to Hrahyosh and the slave.

"Then if that is agreeable to all, the rest of us will go to the door and get out. I will pick up a piece of the paint(?) covered trapdoor. Will someone pick up the dlaqo and bring it?" Trinesh will have to go down into the pit to do that; at least to get a decent-sized chunk that will obviously look like the faux-floor section it is to people who have not witnessed the hole. Teregash can easily drag the beetle. I assume one of the slaves stays with Issa and Hrahyosh while the other accompanies the rest of the party to the exit...

"Someone lower me down with a lit torch, so I can see to grab a piece of the trapdoor. Be ready to pull me up quickly if I say."
As I am lowered, I watch for any movement. As I get level with the tunnel, I try to look down the tunnel as far as I can.

Trinesh goes down into the pit
With torch in hand and courage in hearth the brave man of Pechano is lowered down into the hole until he reaches the bottom and his feet touch the false floor section.
Wonder! It cannot support his weight and his feet sink easily into it. The wood under-structure is thoroughly rotted. No surprise it fell from above, either collapsing from its own weight or from a slave's incautious treading.
Trinesh has no problem ripping a section out which quite clearly show to be part of a false floor to whomever is shown.
The tunnel is quite noticeable mad-made and mostly straight. It goes off into the distance a far as the light from the torch allows to see.
Also quite evident are the dark-red splotches on the ground and the tunnel. It is clearly blood and it seems whatever spilled it was being dragged, or dragging itself, toward and across the tunnel.
Exiting the Warehouse
With Trinesh hoisted back up, the group leaves Issa, Hrahyosh and one of the slave-boys to guard the pit while they make their way back; strong Teregash drags the giant beetle behind him.
The group wastes an inordinate amount of time getting the insect's corpse trough the narrow passage that gave them so much trouble during their trip inward, but eventually the task is achieved, the party continues and they stand once more at the entry gate.
Someone raps and knocks at the wood using the code that the Livyani servant taught and soon the sound of turning of keys and moving of bars is heard. The gates opens...
The glare of the late afternoon sun its you with a blinding force and for a moment you can't see. When your vision re-adjusts you see Timhuvaz by the entry flanked by the "twins".
"You are back! How did the task go?" he asks. Then his eyes fall upon the thing that Teregash is dragging.
"Oh my!"
Ball's in your court.

After the group leaves, Hrahyosh will slide his lamp down the hole again, about 20 feet. Giving him a clear line of sight into the hole. "Issa, do you have a spare dagger? If someone throws a grapple up here, I'd like to have a surprise for them while they climb up." He also mentions, "Let me know when you hear them coming back. Or anyone coming towards us. I'll concentrate on watching and listening to this rat-hole."

"O Excellent Timhuvaz, behold the foul beast from the Underworld responsible for the death of your most Noble Master's slaves. In the battle with it, 1 of our group was seriously hurt and is in need of priestly healing.
The Noble Hritsekkash and his clan have been cruelly deceived about the impenetrability of the floor of their warehouse. We found a concealed trapdoor that had been painted to resemble the stone flooring. The wood had rotted over time and that allowed this creature to burst thru when the 2 slaves were nearby and attack them. There is a 30 foot deep pit beneath and a man made tunnel that leads of into the Underworld as far as the eye can see. We have left 2 of our number there with 1 of the lantern boys to guard the pit while we conferred with our Noble employer.
What would you have us do?"

Issa tosses Hrahyosh her dagger. She nods in agreement with his suggestions, taking her place atop some crates, just outside the glow of the slave's lantern. She keeps her eyes averted from the light but relies chiefly on her ears for warning.

"You must speak to my master at once! Bring the body of the creature so he can see with his own eyes you tell no lie. You two!" he says to the gate-guards "Lock it again and make sure no one enters or leaves until we return."
So the party makes its way back to the large black tent of Hritsekkash the merchant, dragging the body of dead dlaqo beetle. Surely a sight like this does not often grace the streets of Old Jakalla... * * * * * To make long story short, master Hritsekkash is summoned from his tent and a lot of explanations are given. Addatheng is nowhere to be seen but three newcomers are present with the merchant (the men Do'olnar saw from the inside using Clairvoyance) Hritsekkash' eyes nearly fall from its sockets when he sees the body of the creature you brought along. The three other men look uncomfortably at it and chat hurriedly with him in their native language before leaving hastily. Hritsekkash is somewhat vocal in the goodbyes he says to them. Ouippuo easily gets the gist of what's happening. The 3 men are clan-cousins of Hritsekkash who can hold their own in a fight and where summoned in case backup was needed. They excuse themselves saying they where ready to face men but not monsters. The merchant was quite incensed with their leaving and let out some expletives I dare not transcribe. After that you are led in and he spends an inordinate amount of time trying to decide what to do. "It must be closed! We have to seal that passage as soon as possible...no wait! We must first know where it leads and what its purpose is...that fool of an uncle of mine, how could he miss...?"Finally he makes a decision and chooses to hire your services further. "I need to know more about that hole before doing anything. You have certainly proven your bravery so I wish you go down there and learn what you can. I will post my guards in vigil inside 24/7 until this matter is solved. I will add 100 kaitars each atop what we agreed, and no bargaining this time! Just don't fail me and return with a report of what lies beyond that tunnel you spoke of."Meanwhile Timhuvaz has been taking gold kaitars from a large chest and splitting them into 7 equal piles on the floor-mat. The Salarvyani gestures toward them and says: "Timhuvaz is gathering the sums I have promised you. Surely you have no need of this if you are venturing into the Underworld so we shall keep your payment for safe guarding until you return to collect it."The Livyani scoops each pile into separate large sacks which he places inside another fortified chest. 300 kaitars each awaiting for your return... "If there is any equipment you need that we might have in our premises just say so, but be fast about it!"

"Timhuvaz, do we have any armor laying around this one can use?" - asks Hritsekkash as his servant finished locking the chest with your future payment.
The Livyani takes one good look at Ouippuo and shakes his head.
"I'm afraid not sire, the only suits there are were made for Maku and Thorda and they would be too big for him without both time and an artisian....I might be able to find a proper shield and helm however."
Ouippuo failed his Luck roll.

"I too would like better armor, Perhaps you have some leather armor that would fit me? Also, some resin torches, several 50' lengths of rope, a mallet and spikes, a lantern with a blue lens and several flasks of oil noble sir?
Do we know if Issa and Hrahyosh need anything?

OOC: Hredarru wishes to ask for some tools, but doesn't want to offend his host. Surely if the plan is to eventually seal the hole, there must be some useful items we can "borrow" for this spelunking expedition. Perhaps some pry-bars, spades and/or picks? Nothing too cumbersome, but the ability to pry, dig or chisel might come in handy down below.
Hredarru would enjoy being able to upgrade his armor, but that will have to wait.

There aren't any suits of armor available, or weapons except for daggers and maybe mattocks.
However Hritsekkash does have several hard leather aprons and jerkins for the workers which he can lend. Its flimsy stuff but it will grant a bonus of +1 to AC if worn by someone without any other armor.
There are also 4 helms lying about, 3 closed ones and one open. Timhuvaz explains they are of Yan Koryani origin, part of a deal with a collector of armaments that didn't went through.
The helms are worn but usable. Their build is alien to you, they are bucket-like, a bit over-tall and painted in various shades of green.
The merchant has enough rope and torches to tie a small army and set it ablaze, take as many as you need. Planks of wood and poles are also available in quantity.

Hritsekkash seems to have done away with many of the time-consuming nicetimes of merchant-mode. His attitude now is more "take what you need and get it done." than anything else.
