How about if my character had a trained parrot that he carried around with him?

Sure, as long as it's just for color and it doesn't speak seventeen different languages or shoot laser beams from its eyes. ;D
As a matter of curiosity, all birds on Tekumel either came from Terra or are genetic derivatives of our feathered friends. There was never any other life-supporting planet in Humanspace where birds had evolved.
The sources are pretty slim about precisely what breeds of birds where brought to Tekumel and survived the Time of Darkness, only Kuni birds (intelligent falcons who can speak) and Keshkal birds (something like a cross between a peacock and a paradise bird whose plumage is ubber-popular for personal decoration) are mentioned often.
But I would say in my Tekumel, yes, would have several races of psittacines, ravens and some type of crane-like avian.

What is the bird's name? And does Oippuo have it with him now or does he leave it at the room in the Tower of the Red Dome?

I see the companion as his regular companion, perched on his shoulder, so he has it now. We'll see how it plays out. The parrot's name is Tandai

Any particular text guidelines you'd like us to follow for posting? I'm not sure if I missed something, but I see two player posts in the current game thread with colored text for dialog.
Should I just start and pick a color for Hredarru?

On Tekumel, it's called a Kuni Bird. If you happen to be from a place where such birds flourish and have bird-traning as a skill, it's possible you might have one.
They're much smarter than a parrot and, if you have sufficient training, can understand it. They occasionally become fixated on something of interest rather than what you want. Kuni birds are large plumed predators and highly prized/valuable by the upper class. Such a bird might go for 1000's of Kaitar.
As a quick aside, coming as we do from outside of Tsolyanu, we are all "nakome". While this literally translates to clanless, it means we are beneath the law. Slaves have more standing. A passing armsman could decide to test the edge of his blade on one of us and there would be nothing that we could really do about it. Until we can affiliate ourselves with clans or temples, we're VERY vulnerable! To buy into a low clan might cost as little as 1000K, while a medium clan might require a bribe of around 10,000. High clan entry is very expensive! Very high clan entry is amazingly expensive and requires the active sponsorship of some dignitary (e.g., Prince).
Or, at least that's how I understand it. Am I on target?

Should I just start and pick a color for Hredarru? You did not miss anything. I'll be using black for description, blue for NPC dialog and green for mechanics. Players can use whatever nomenclature they wish, or follow mine.

Am I on target? Pretty much, except that psychos who kill foreigners for fun in broad day light are about as rare as in real life. Also, if a bunch of surly, well-armed Nakome backed up by sorcery arrives at a small isolated Tsolyani village in the middle of nowhere you can be sure the headsmen there is going to think twice, or thrice, before being anything other than polite and courteous, because nakome scum or not they can tear the place apart (think ronin in early shogunate Japan). Lastly, the Foreign Quarter is like a ghetto, it both hunts and takes care of its own and everyone knows that. There's just so much it is willing to take from outsiders. If a citizen comes here, acts as an not a very nice person and gets wasted in a brawl, the authorities are not going to burn the place to the ground for it. They'll break a few heads, probably impale a few poor bastards (not necessarily the right ones) and life goes on. And remember the number one rule of Sword & Sorcery's fantasy gaming: "No body, no crime." ;D

Shesh! Writing adventure posts from a GM's perspective is quite a time-vampire, with all the boldening, italicization, colors and editing. Spell checking is a bloody nightmare as the thing isn't set up to recognize Tekumelyani names. Gimme a breather and I'll post the tent scene.

Does anyone know how many kaitars were in the bag we got to come to the merchant's?
Also, assuming we survive and find things worth having, has anyone thought about treasure division?

IMO, here's where roleplay should give way to party harmony. I'm all for splitting loot evenly. With our GM's help, I propose that we roll for quality loot picks. If something would obviously benefit one of the party members, that individual should receive it instead of simply selling it. Anything sold, we divide the loot. Thoughts?

IMHO, I agree with Suushih in general. Coins, gems, jewelry (non-magical), ingots of metal, etc should be split evenly. Magical items, weapons, etc should be limited to those who can use them. My PC has no use for a sword/mace/axe magical or not; a magic dagger yes. 1 of the warriors or adventurers should have no use for some of the wands, talismans etc. In a case like that use extra shares of treasure to compensate. If there are 4 items that 3 players can use each should get a pick, determined randomly, before the 4th item is resolved randomly. No 1 party member should get all the good stuff just because the dice say so. The goal is to keep everybody as happy as possible with the rewards.

Even splits of all the mundane spoils are to be expected. I prefer to evaluate magic items and such on an individual basis. Assigning them to those who can best use them, and want them. If no one wants an item, sell it and even split again. It would be best if we round robin magic items so that one person wouldn't get a 2nd until everyone got a first. Knowing that treasure doesn't always cooperate, we'd have to be flexible on this issue. I think we're all on the same page. All found plunder is "group" property, not every man for himself. Of course that's my opinion.

Moving various bits of background material I've accumulated for Tekumel to the Culture thread as it seems to make sense and until the GM tells me to stop. Tekumel is so vast that it can easily overwhelm someone new. I've been playing it off-and-on for 30 years and it's still overwhelming to me. I'm certainly no expert. Fwiw ... Do'olnar's thoughts in a recent post about the Salarvyani being incapable of Noble Action are intentionally ironic. The concept of Noble Action does not really exist within the odd fragmented culture of Haida Pakala.

Can I ask you guys to please put what you look like in your Signature field under your profile? I'm not sure who is armed with what, who has shields, etc. In the field above Signature, you can also put your character's name. This would really be helpful! If you're so inclined, it's straightforward to post a picture in .jpg format. I used Imageshack for this. Let me know if you need any help with this. It's been two years since I played in Tekumel. I had forgotten how much fun it was!
