Ivan and Crater keep the line at the front as the goblins continue to press forward. Calvin's sling-stone misses, but Gus' uncanny luck with his daggers continues, and a goblin finds a blade in his neck shortly before crashing to the depths below. Ivan and Crater are likewise fortunate in their blows, and two more goblins die; the still-smoldering ground is starting to stink of barbecued goblin's blood.
The party is alternately cheered and chastened to see the end of the goblin line emerge from around the corner; there are sixteen of the greenskins yet to dispatch. At least their numbers are now known.
Ivan and Crater hold off their assailants for another round as three goblins once again stand before them in line...
(DM: Still pacing you with the first group, I'll assume you continue on 'everyone attacks' mode unless I hear otherwise - feel free to try stuff if you like though.)
Gus' spectacular luck with the daggers holds out, and another goblin falls to his deadly blades. He now has but one left.
Calvin's shot with the sling is not so fortunate. The goblin line surges forward, and Ivan and Crater manage to hold your position, but do not manage to strike any telling blows in return. Nor, thankfully, do the goblins!
(DM: Another round passes - let me know if there are any changes in plans, or if Gus wants to use his last dagger. It looks like next round may bring some surprises, but for now the fight continues as it was, but with only 15 more foes to slay.)
Well I'm sure one or two of these goblins won't have any use for a dagger! Just out of curiousity, did any weapon like a dagger land any where near me, or a spear? If a spear is handy, Gus will snap off the point and use the shaft for staff. If this is not possible Gus will stab any goblin that gets to close!
DM: Good thinkin', thor...though a staff can't effectively poke through the lines - but you can pick up a fallen spear and break off the point to make a staff. So that's what you're doing this round.
Calvin fires his sling again through the gap, but the bullet bounces off a goblin's helmet. Ivan's mighty thews continue to carve down greenskins - his sword strikes the shield of one, bounces off, and crushes the skull of a second on the rebound. The brawny warrior's face twists with triumph, though fourteen foes yet remain.
The goblin line surges forward, and two spears get past Crater's guard, finally piercing his plate mail and bringing the warrior's life to an end. Now the cleric and wizard must defend themselves directly, and the odds seem bad indeed. Except...towards the back of the line, something is happening! A human appears to be climbing up the wall behind the goblins, using your battle as a distraction, and several of the goblins have turned to hear someone shouting at them from their rear.
