I've been having some fun playing "Five Leagues From The Borderlands" with a Glorantha/Runequest theme. So much fun, that I felt the urge to start blogging about it. I've only just started it, but I am having almost as much fun connecting the dice roll generated scenarios into a story as I am playing the game. You can read my blog at five-leagues-in-glorantha.blogspot.com/?m=1

Looks interesting. There seems to be a lot more Solo Play options out in the wild. Funny as there are more ways to connect with people for gaming, it seems to get harder to actually do it.

I live in Fabulous Las Vegas. Work shifts run a 24/7 schedule here, so managing to find people to game with who are off at the same time you are can be tricky

For solo gaming, have you looked at Scarlet Heroes? www.drivethrurpg.com/product/127180/Scarlet-Heroes Seems to have everything needed except the motivation to play by yourself. I like how it covers urban, wilderness and dungeon soloing for one or two primary characters.

If you are willing to go Solo to game, what about Play by Post such as rpol.net ? It has the flexible timing you need while still being "real people" so more interactive. The downside is that by nature it is slow paced so hard to hold the attention of the players. A one or two player game with a GM typically holds up better but still requires some update waiting.

I've done that (here on this forum, even) but it doesn't scratch that itch to set up my toys and play with. I really enjoy painting my models and putting them on the table. Owing to some brain damage a while back, it's difficult for me to maintain the attention to paint whole armies, but games like this Frostgrave are great because I only need to paint a few models at a time and I can use a lot of stuff that's already on my shelf.

"it doesn't scratch that itch to set up my toys and play with." Good point. Sometimes you want to actually touch things. I can't replace that but "buffering" the random generator I can do. == Have done the post thing here as well. Not a blog but a log. odd74.proboards.com/board/41/greentongue-online-oept

How well do you think "Five Leagues From The Borderlands" would work if you were playing as the shore party of a ship/barge/boat?

How well do you think "Five Leagues From The Borderlands" would work if you were playing as the shore party of a ship/barge/boat? Perfectly. As RPGers, we have the ability to change the flavor of things without changing the mechanics. There are already rules for travelling between towns, it would be easy enough to travel back and forth between them, or even treat each town as a cluster of stops along a route.

Good to know. If I didn't have "Savage Worlds Showdown" skirmish rules it would be a lot easier to justify getting 5LFB. You keep pointing out some great uses.

[Should I move this to our RQ area? ] I had thought of that, but this is mostly a miniatures game that just happens to be set in Glorantha. I will be happy no matter where it ends up

Skirmish seems like a nice scale for Glorantha. I've got the original RQ1 and RQ2 rules while nice they always seemed a bit fiddly. Always did like the setting though.
You ever play the "Red Bear White Moon" or "Dragon Pass" board games?
I wonder if you could use one of those scenarios at this scale for a "big battle"?

I'm sure the scenarios would be interesting.

What I have been looking for is a way to play out the establishment of a barony. The idea being that there was a war and a plague. Now you are taking over a rundown fortification near a small town and establishing rule.
I have systems for higher abstraction and RPG level of abstraction but so far everything has been consumed by spreadsheets. Hoping that you can confirm if you think that 5LFB would fill that missing link.
Do you have the supplement "Hopes of Glory" and would that make this all come together? Have you tried this type of game? If so, how did it work out?
I see with the current you are wandering around and reducing threats. Does this lead to some ultimate goal is it just reasons for battles?

I haven't invested in "Hopes Of Glory" yet. It is on my list of things to acquire, as I plan to use it as a foundation for my next Five Leagues project (which won't be Glorantha.)

Nice paint job on the cleric. What paints do you use?

Nice paint job on the cleric. What paints do you use? Thank you! I mostly use craft paints, my preference is Americana and Delta Ceramcoat. When I need a specific color, such as field grey or olive drab, I use Vallejo Model Color.
