Okay, so these are boardgames and not strictly wargames, but...
There are several "Panic" games out there, designed for kids and adults.
* Castle Panic (with three expansions)
* Dead Panic (a zombie attack game)
* Star Trek Panic (defending the Enterprise)
* Munchkin Panic (killing things and taking their stuff)
My family is more into cooperative games, so I don't think I have much interest in the Munchkin version, but I'm interested in finding out if anyone has any experience with these games and if so which you liked better.
I did a little research, but it's not the same as getting a personal opinion from one who has played. What I don't want to do is rush out to buy several versions if they all play sort of the same, which is kind of the impression I've gotten from reading stuff online. (It's like having variant versions of RISK or Monopoly or Clue … neat but some of them never get played.)
Castle Panic looks like it is card based and players don't really play characters. One of the expansions adds in a wizard, which is cool, but if it's not sort of like role playing I see that version as having a big downside.
Dead Panic looks the most "role playing" like of the group. You get little figures that you get to move around as you kill zombies and they try to overwhelm the group. Plus, if you die you become a zombie.
Star Trek Panic is TOS Star Trek, which is a huge plus for me personally but maybe not a factor for my family. It appears that you play a "character" but the only thing that moves around the board is the Enterprise, and the "character" is really just having the ability to do actions different from other "characters" in the game. The "characters" are cool, though, being Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Uhura.
Anyway, that's sort of my take on the versions from just reading some reviews. Can anyone give me better insight here?
