Is the following correct; it's mostly drawn from Judges Guild trade paper?
Buying: First, determine the general type of products available. Then determine the specific product available. Next determine the product's supply. Then, subtract the real cost of the buyer’s purchase from the settlement's assets. If the merchant wants to buy different or additional products, he may spend day(s) in residence trying to buy.
Selling: First, determine the supply of the specific product to be sold. Then, determine the price the settlement is willing to pay. Next, subtract the "real cost" of the settlement’s purchased product from the settlement's assets. If the merchant wishes to sell a different or additional product, he may spend day(s) in residence trying to sell.

People might be able to give you a little more input if you explain what you want to achieve. Are you trying to apply some type of economic system to your campaign? Or are you looking for some direction on creating a barter system in your game?
What you wrote above is very general guidance for trade that assumes players are either buyers or sellers and a settlement has either limited finances to buy with and/or limited product to sell. I'm assuming this would be keyed to a map.
There is also a JG sub forum that you could post this in if it's a specific question about their product.

I should have posted it under Judges Guild. The rest sounds reasonable. I was looking at an economic system. The maritime example in the document is clearest. Thanks.

I looked over the doc. Appears to be a usable system for merchant vessels as written. Involves a little bit of record keeping and seems to use a silver standard. I'd probably be inclined to modify it for my own purposes if I was going to use it. Do you plan on running a game where trading is an essential role?
edit: actually, it does use a gold standard. Pay is by the day instead of by the month.

It might be fun to run something like this as a change of pace part of larger adventure.
