Hello everyone,
I'm planning to attend Gary Con next March, and as I've always been more of a DM than player I'd like to run a few (home brew setting, Greyhawk/basic era rules) games. I haven't done this before, or been to a convention, or even played in a long while, so I have a few questions.
First, about the event submission process. It's hard to find much info, but it appears that you need only submit basic information - name, event type, short description, age range, etc. I'm wondering whether that is all that is needed even though it may be a home brew type event.
Second, I'm wondering whether anyone could recommend a module (or share their own experience DM'ing) that might provide an idea of what the right "size" of a three hour event might look like.
Third, what I would really like is to run maybe three after hour /off book /unofficial sessions on consecutive nights with one group of old school spirited players, with the characters leveling up each night. Straight up old school dungeon exploration, resource management, type of playing, maybe with a hook/vague plot maybe not. I'm wondering whether there would be much interest in something like that and whether you all have any suggestions for how I could make that work. It seems to me that it would be a lot of fun.
I realize there is a lot working against me here, but would appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks.

My best advice is to go to Facebook, join the GaryCon page there, and ask your questions there.

Muddy, I submitted a game this past year, which was approved & scheduled, although I had to cancel at the last minute. But the process is pretty easy and smooth. Once submission is open (Sep, IIRC?), you just fill out the form for each game with the required info. There are two description sections, one short, one longer. For a dungeon/adventure you are creating yourself I would put in enough info to give potential players a sense of what the game will be about. For my "long description" I wrote: "Forty years ago adventurers first braved the dungeon under the ruined tower of the wizard Zenopus. Fearsome monsters were overcome and fabulous treasure recovered, but the doom of Zenopus was never revealed. The stairway leading down to the dangerous passages was eventually bricked over by order of Lady Lemunda, current ruler of prosperous Portown. However, recently your party uncovered a previously unknown means of entry. What secrets remain to be discovered in the old dungeons? Meet at the Green Dragon Inn and adventure as Boinger, Zereth, Murray or another character from J. Eric Holmes' stories (characters will be provided). This adventure from the Zenopus Archives celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Holmes Basic D&D set." In addition to the FB group that Gronan recommended, there is also a GaryCon forum you can ask questions on, and may be more easily searchable than FB: garycon.com/community/index.php
