The old lady after calming herself says " my name is Good wife Thanato. In my root cellar in my house i can hear strange noises during the day but mostly at night. Things are moved around and food is missing. Then last night i heard strange voices calling to me. They were telling me to let them into the house. I am not a wealthy woman and the guards do not listen and one says I need to see a cleric. " She looks to the party and Rupert with teared eyes.

"Well, well", says Thoradin and scratches his beard. He turns to the group and continues in a lower voice: "This doesn't sound like demons to me. Sounds more like rats and a crazy old woman, huh? - Anyhow, this Ruppert seems just as odd to me, but just as harmless as well. What do you think?"
"Oh, poor you, old lady! I think i can do a charm for your protection, but its better if we can help you. Right...guys?" Ruppert try to look cool, as if he was already part of the party. Then, he take a twig from the ground, bend it to a loop and chant some nonsense in a lower voice.
"This is for protecting one home", and handle it to the lady
The mage try to search in the back of his head, how her name seems familiar... "Oh! ma'm, i suppose you dont know anyone named "Ero", do you" (he is a little afraid of the answer, btw)
Ameldor looks at Thoradin and says,"Rats don't usually whisper to people to let them inside their house. As for this fellow", looking at Ruppert, "He looks to be unseasoned and fresh off the farm. But I suppose we all were like that at one point".
He then turns to Ruppert and says,"If you wish to join us, I won't have a problem with it but be warned, you will still have to earn the trust of our group. We have seen some things that would make most people run away in fear so I hope you know what you are getting into".
"I think I would like to see what is going on in your cellar my good woman. I think you have a bigger problem than rats. Who would like to come with me and help this old women out?"

Kynor is not really sure what the party would do chasing rats in an old woman's house, where they were all going somewhere completely different in the first place. However, he does not express his doubts loudly. Instead, he grunts, turns to Ruppert again and says: "Trust is not easily won, but very easily lost. Do not disappoint us."

As they moved to follow the old woman, Airik responded to Thoradin. "Your instincts to help the old woman prove your mettle to me. I only question the need of all of us to go deal with this. But such is to be our fate, it seems."
Damrod says nothing as he follows the others. He suspects the old lady is somewhat batty, but he keeps his thoughts to himself. Then again, it may be some prankster having a laugh at the old lady's expense. If nothing else, the group will see a bit more of Specularum and perhaps learn a bit more about it.
I pray for exactly seven things: strength, intelligence, wisdom, constitution, dexterity, charisma, and more hit points.
The old lady leads you down a side street down a couple of houses and stops at the third house on the right. She leads you around to the back of the house. She says " this back door leads to my kitchen. Next to the backdoor is my root cellar which is a trapdoor which the cellar is below my oven. Thank you sirs for helping me. "
She enters the house leaving you the root center. You remove the board which locks the cellar and you open the trap door. It reveals a set of stairs which heads down. Down below you hear a crack of a whip and goblin voices below.

Kynor was about to enter the cellar to scout as usual, but seeing that every other party member wants to enter one by one before him and confront the enemy at a clear tactical disadvantage, he steps back and watches the events unfold with curiosity.
Thoradin watches the others enter the cellar with curiosity. "Just rushing in?" he whispers to Kynor. Thoradin tries to listen to the goblin sounds to find out how many might be down there. Nevertheless, he readies himself for a fight.
Rolling for surprise. The party has surprise. Damrod and ameldor rush down the stairs. A large earthen cavern is covered with a pool of ankle deep mud. The room is criss crossed with supporting beams and planks cover the roof. Accross the room three thin and naked men shovel by the lighr of a feeble lantern. Three hobgoblins watch over them while they work. The room is 30 ft wide by 30 feet long. There is a 5ft wide exit out of the room. Both elves are now in the room. Are the rest advancing or is sleep being cast? Otherwise we will begin new actions and initiative
