Making Tekumel your own

I have an intense interest in Empire of the Petal Throne but get turned off to ever running it due to fear of the cannon police.

Has anyone taken Professor Barkers advice of making Tekumel your own?

Absolutely
I tend to use Chinese influence more than Indian.
Pull some ideas from "Outlaws of the Marsh"

My biggest problem has been expectations.
With some much "official" information posted on the web it is hard to not morph into something closer to the "official" version.
I think if you just say it is a Homebrew and not use "Empire of the Petal Throne" or "Tekumel" in naming, you can do what you want.
There are so many great ideas possible and with the bones of a world already mapped out, much gaming can be done.
