I hope this is okay with the mods, but I want to recruit for my newly minted Play By Post campaign on RPG Pub (I may also run it here if there is enough interest, as I have plenty of free time), a Historical Fantasy campaign called The New World.
The New World is based on fantasy adventure, historical fiction, and alternate history. The setting is a fantasy version of Earth circa 1607 AD where magic exists and there are monsters and treasure lurking in the shadows. Players are adventurers employed by the Virginia Company of London to take part in an expedition to the New World and help partake in the foundation of Jamestown and the Virginia Colony. You can be of any age, gender, or background, though only humans are allowed in terms of PC races. Classes are the core classes of Fighter, Magic-User, and Cleric for now, though I may include supplementary material later.
The rules in play are Full Metal Plate Mail, as that is the closest I can get to OD&D's core box set on my current budget.
The campaign is a sandbox campaign focused around survival, acquiring treasure and supplies for the colony, and wilderness exploration. Monsters and treasure are abound, as this version of the New World is a mix-and-match combination of the real-life woodlands of the Eastern United States and a fantasy wilderness with elements of a lost world.
Players start at Level One, and as they level up and adventure in the North American wilderness, they will gain wealth and reputation. Reputation can come in either positive forms (Fame) or negative forms (Infamy) and player actions can gain fame or infamy for the various factions in-game. Faction reputation will play a big role in the later stages of the campaign.
