While Kumahl supervised the construction of a thatch roof over the hole to keep the rain out, Huruyan spoke with Lord Seer.
At Huruyan's urging Lord Seer sent a couple of servants and porters for supplies. They were lead away by the remaining huntsman.
The workmanship on the roof was shoddy and a few times the workers were barely saved from falling into the hole. Kumahl was surprised that even though the soldiers grumbled about doing such tasks, they had some experience at setting up temporary shelters. Their craftsmanship was clearly better than the servants and bearers handy work.
Late in the afternoon, as the construction was being completed and the joints were being reinforced, Lord Seer's people returned. They said that the Blue Palm clan had provided the supplies and had not allowed them to go about the town. The Blue Palm members had said that they didn't want to attract attention.
There were now easily enough supplies for sixteen people for four days.
Kumahl On the side of the hill near the entrance Kumahl had a pathway marked out to avoid causing further issues to the sinkhole entrance.
He heads back into the hole ahead of his cousins and before the rest of the entourage arrives. He just wants some time to process the site and make some hypothesis about what it was and wasn't.
Huruyan Huruyan checked the supplies and then, satisfied he lead the porters and soldiers back into the hole.
Dresu Dresu spent some time during the construction inspecting the double-doors carefully, trying to determine if there were any mechanisms attached to it that might be dangerous.

--- The translucent curved double doors appeared to open in the middle and swing away from the chamber the party was in. Each door had a glass bar about two feet long as a vertical handle. These were just inches apart from each other and fastened to their doors, top and bottom, by a very shiny silver metallic material.
The patter of rain on the new roof covered any dripping sound made by water that might have leaked in.
It also covered any soft sounds that might be happening in the darkness behind the doors.
Dresu was confident there was no danger from this side of the doors.

DresuDresu looks closer at the shiny material securing the doors, trying to puzzle out if it's a fastener that can be moved or needs to be broken. Huruyan"Lord Seer, Kumahl, Dresu are we ready to try to open these doors? I for one think it is time to proceed and find the Hungry Maw and kill it before it kills again." DresuSeeing no objections, Dresu pushes the doors open. KumahlKumahl was about to say something to Huruyan when Dresu pushed the doors open and Kumahl retracted his question before it left his mouth. His sketchbook was busy receiving notes as his cousins proceeded forward. HuruyanWith his cousins just marching forward, Huruyan followed, watching carefully and with weapon in hand. With his free hand he motioned the others to follow. --- Beyond the doors Dresu sees an odd shaped room. The room is vaguely triangular with a large dark opening about 20 feet away at the end of the curved wall to his right. Directly ahead is a wall about twenty feet away that starts on the other side of the dark opening and curves to the left forming almost a 'Y' as it ends in an alcove. On the left is a long ledge that stretches almost to the alcove at the back. At the far end of the ledge is a door that is ajar and from it spills a tan material with splotches of shiny red jell. This material reaches in a cone from the open door to just a few feet from when Dresu is standing. It looks like this upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/58/Hydnellum_peckii.darvin.jpgOn the top of the ledge, about five feet from the open door, is another depression with a silver curved tube over it, like in the small room with the Vringalu nest. The handles of each side of this one are spiky wheel shaped. On the side of the ledge are three closed doors. Two before the depression and one between it and the door.

Dresu Dresu peers at the red stuff, holding up a hand to signal that the others should wait before moving in.
--- Dresu determines that there are some kind of tiny spores suspended in the jelly. He does not recognize what the material is besides some sort of fungus.
While he is examining it, he notices the fuzzy like base material the jelly is sitting in is expanding towards the now open doorway. It is sending short hair fine tendrils across the floor, towards the door. These tendrils are thickening as he watches.
A small puddle of water is inching its way towards the fungus from the doorway.
The walls of this room are teal with salmon colored trim.

Dresu "Stop the water from reaching the fungus," Dresu commands, and points at one of the porters, "Take off your shirt, immediately!"
Kumahl Kumahl is curious about this being a variant of Ssi Spit and agrees to stopping the water flow.
"If it is like the Ssi Spit, it will suffocate you in a couple of minutes. And yes Cousin Dresu heat would be best."
--- The porter pointed to by Dresu puts down his load and strips off his soaked shirt. He handed it to Dresu with a slight bow.
With the shirt, Dresu was able to block the slowly questing arm of water. It was diverted into spreading wide instead of creeping forward towards the waiting fungus.
From the doorway, Kumahl eyed the cone shaped pattern of unknown yellowish fungus. He also noticed that the opening to the right is a faintly red glowing doorway that curves tightly to the left.

Kumahl "It would take a couple of weeks to make proper vessels to collect these fungi samples. Another couple of weeks for me to discover what they do."
The glowing door holds his curiosity more though. Carefully evaluating the floor in front of him Kumahl moves slowly towards the glowing door on the right. Checking periodically for anything that might look out of place. When he arrives near the door, he stops and begins a thorough visual examination of the door, the floor, the walls, and the ceiling.
--- With his body blocking the light from the bearers, Kumahl could see that the door opened onto a tight spiral staircase leading down to the left.
The red illumination was seeping through all along the edge where the wall and floor met. This lighted edge was on both sides and outlined each stair step.
A grey lichen covered everything including the handrails on both sides of the stairwell. The light barely penetrated the lichen.

Lord Seer Epengar With disregard for the yellowish fungus, Lord Seer steps forward into the room.
One step away from the fungus, he points to a door at the bottom of the ledge, "Bring a light here." "I wish to see what is behind that door."
Dresu "Lord Seer?" Dresu asked in a calm, conversational voice. "Are you aware of the properties of that fungus you're standing next to?"
Lord Seer Epengar Lord Seer glanced down. "That stuff? Looks like some dervish's back." Looking back at Dresu, "What harm could a bunch of mold do?"
"You see those cabinet doors?" pointing emphatically, "That's the type of stuff we are looking for." "We should open them up and see what the ancients left in them."
Huruyan "Lord Seer, you are correct, however we don't know what type of mold that is or what dangers it might present. The last fungus we ran into, when disturbed KILLED our friend and could have killed all of us. Since none of us are familiar with this fungus we need to take precautions BEFORE disturbing it." Turning to the porters, "I need some gloves and some fabric to cover my mouth and nose. Oh and something to use as a shovel."
--- The bearers shuffled and sorted through the things they were carrying, no gloves were found but an extra outfit for Lord Seer was offered as "fabric".
The beetle shell, still being lugged around, was the closest thing to a shovel that could be found. The goods that were packed in it had to be stacked on the floor.
The oozing muddy water penetrated the dam of cloth and slowly started expanding.

Huruyan "Apologies, Lord Seer, but we don't seem to have what we need to investigate those doors. I am sure however that there is much to be discovered down those steps. Why don't we leave this to later and go down and see what we may find?" With that Huruyan walked across the room and started cautiously down the stairs.
Dresu "We need to move deeper and close these doors to keep the water from reaching this fungus, or I fear it will be impassable when we return."
Kumahl Noticing the lichen on the handrails Kumahl tried to assess whether the lichen was also on the stairs going down. Carefully using a fabric covered hand, Kumahl looks at the stairwell below.
"The stairwell down is right here, I am certain."
--- Being careful not to step onto any of the fungus, the bearers and soldiers moved into the room and crowded next to the stairway entrance.
While Kumahl was trying to examine the lichen in the shifting shadows as everyone moved in, Huruyan pushed past him.
Much to his surprise, Huruyan finds that the lichen is extremely slippery and as he lost his footing he grabbed Kumahl. [Private to Huruyan: 13:39, Today: GM, on behalf of Huruyan, rolled 18 using 1d20. Slip and fall down stairs.]
Kumahl was able to catch himself on the edge of the wall and keep the both of them from sliding down the stairway together. [Private to Kumahl: 13:39, Today: GM, on behalf of Kumahl, rolled 14 using 1d20.]
Dresu was able to close the double doors of the entrance behind the last person in. This sealed off the creeping flow of water into the room. He was even able to slosh some of it back into the entrance chamber with his foot.

Huruyan "Dresu, do you think we can safely open those doors again, I think we will need some of the sand out there to throw on the steps to help keep from slipping."
Kumahl Pulling Huruyan to the handhold where he was hanging on, Kumahl then carefully bends down and uses his flaying knife to cut through the lichen on the step in front of him. If he can he will move the lichen from the steps all the way down the steps.
Dresu "I can reopen the door easily enough, but I'd rather not let any more water in if we can avoid it."
--- Kumahl was able to scrape most of the lichen off of the first couple steps and only leave a thin slippery coating.
The long slimy pile of lichen rested on the next step down and to reach farther would require stooping down from one of the scraped steps.
This is taking some time to do as the lichen is lubricating every attempt to scrape.
Lord Seer is again eyeing the cabinet doors while Kumahl is involved in menial labor. He has directed a servant with a light to direct it that way.

Kumahl Kumahl sitting on a step he has just freshly scraped, puts his foot on a lichen covered step and checks for slippage.
"Anywhere we can secure a rope?"
Dresu "The top of the handrail where it's bolted to the wall, should suffice to hold a rope, Cousin." Dresu angles himself to stay between the Seer and the cabinets while avoiding the odd fungus.
Kumahl Still testing his footing, "Cousin Huruyan, please secure a line we will need it."
Kumahl also checks to se how much cushion is given by the lichen.
Huruyan Huruyan directs the porters to get him a rope and then ties it to the handrail. "Here you go cousin see if this makes it possible to safely descend."
--- With a rope secured it was not difficult to go down the stairs while maintaining a firm grip on it.
The lichen was as slippery as ice and a consistency of mud. Mushier where it was not scraped off but still slippery where it was.
Only scrubbing it with a cleanser would truly remove it enough not to be slippery.

Kumahl Kumahl leads off and offers caution for all. Quickly descending, he makes a mental note to look into the lichen's physical properties to see if it might be used for a lubricant later. Taking a hand full, he sticks into an empty pouch.
Grabbing the end of the rope firmly, he whips it up to signal for the next person to descend. He turns and makes a quick surveillance of the downstairs landing.
--- Using the rope hand over hand, Kumahl descended down the curved stairs into the reddish dark.
He quickly reached a landing while the stairs continued to curl on further down.
The landing was 'L' shaped with the long part extending to the left. Light came from a flat square starting from waist height above a rounded cabinet. The light surrounded and shone on a smiling man who was looking out of the square opening at Kumahl. The space the man was standing in looked to be arms width on each side. The frame of the cabinet enclosed the square a hand's width all around.
He said, "Kuinka voin auttaa?"
On the other side of the cabinet, on the same wall, was a closed door. This formed the short wall of the 'L'. There was another door, that looked very sturdy, straight ahead from the stairs.
From where he was standing, with one foot ankle deep in a soft cream colored mush of mold and the other in the lichen, it could not be determined how far to the left the corridor extended.

Kumahl Kumahl puzzles the language the man is speaking.
"Its a thick mess down here. Be careful."
Huruyan As Huruyan steps down next to Kumahl, "Who is that guy?"
Kumahl "Not a clue. But he has been there a long time."
--- When Huruyan arrived next to Kumahl, the man in the cabinet said, "Voinko olla avuksi?" He looked expectantly between Kumahl and Huruyan.
From the faint glow of the area behind the man, Huruyan also was not able to see far down the corridor to the left.
What could be seen was the fluffy white floor, the bare pale blue walls and the two closed doors.
The door to the right had a simple bar handle but the door in front had a long lever that could be moved to the left. There was writing on the door with the lever in big red block shaped letters of some unknown ancient language.
The thin red lights continued to outline the stairs that curved down. More lichen covered that stairwell.

Lord Seer Epengar As the leader, Lord Seer started organizing the descent. "You with the torch, stand there and give us light."
"You, take your torch down with you and be careful, the stairs are slippery." "If you push your foot up against the next step it won't slide."
"Next you two go, and sling those weapons, don't want to kill anyone if you slip and fall."
Huruyan As soon as it was possible to see down the corridor to the left, Huruyan took a good look.
--- When a porter with a torch arrived at the landing, the man in the cabinet greeted him, and each new arrival, in the unknown language. The porter almost dropped his torch in surprise and the soldiers unlimbered their spears quickly.
With the additional light Huruyan was able to see to the end of the corridor.
On the immediate left are two doors that open inward with the closest one having a handle on the near side. The other door's handle is on the far side.
Further down the corridor, about twenty feet, there was a solid shelf that slowly extended from the wall in a curve about eight feet long. There is a frame mounted above it and the enclosed bottom area extends to the floor. It is made of an iridescent brown material.
At the far end, some thirty feet away, is another door that has a handle on the left side.
All the doors are currently closed.

Huruyan Having been more or less forced to skip checking into the cabinet upstairs, Huruyan decides that this cabinet, if it is one he will check out. Having decided this, Huruyan walks down the corridor to the shelf and tries to determine if indeed the lower portion is a cabinet of some sort.
--- Huruyan squished his way down the corridor past the two doors on the left to the protruding cabinet. In the frame above the cabinet was a picture of a group of barely clothed people standing on a beach. The picture was like looking through a window at a live scene except the people were not moving.
There were indentations in the surface of the front of the cabinet and Huruyan was able to pull both doors open using them.
The bulk of mold on the floor made it hard to get them fully open but in the dark he could see two shelves. He could just make out that on the shelves were several bright orange fabric bundles and a red rounded box of a some hard material. There were also four red cylinders with black handles on the side sitting in cradles.

Huruyan Upon seeing that they had finally found something that they might be able to take with then Huruyan stood and called out to Kumahl, "Kumahl, tell Lord Seer that there is something here that he, and you will want to see." Then Huruyan squatted back down and reached out for one of the cylinders with black handles. Grasping it buy the black handle he lifted it out to look at it more closely.
Kumahl The craftsmanship to design a near perfect human head in box was impressive or actually horrifying considering that a real human had lost his head to the design of this box. Either way Kumahl could not understand what it was saying and rather annoyed him. Putting the annoyance aside, he slogged his way to Huruyan, uncertain when his Lordship would make to this landing.
--- While Huruyan and Kumahl look at the cabinet contents, Lord Seer, Dresu and the rest of the party made their way down the stairs.
The landing was became crowded and one of the porters with a lamp moved closer to where Kumahl stood.
This gave better light onto the cabinet contents.
When Huruyan pulled the cylinder out he found that the apparent handle came lose from the flat end of the cylinder. The cylinder fell to the floor dangling by what is clearly a tube connected to now only the rounded end of the cylinder. The rounded end had a T connection that fastened to the cylinder and to the tube. On the other side of the T from the tube was a V shaped handle that looked like it could be squeezed together. Stuck on the side of the T was a red and green button with a black line bisecting the green portion. There was a rectangular scroll suck onto the side of the cylinder but, it contained symbols and writing that was not immediately clear.

Lord Seer EpengarSeeing Huruyan drop a red cylinder, "What have you found?!" "Be careful!" Rushing over to Huruyan, "Let me look at things first as I have experience with ancient artifacts." "You may destroy valuable artifacts with your clumsy fumbling." "Porter, bring light!" DresuAfter a quick evaluation of his surroundings. "You guards, watch these doors," pointing towards the one beside the cabinet with the man inside. "You watch these," directing a few more guards towards the pair of doors on the left of the stairs. Dresu then tried to communicate with the man in the cabinet. Huruyan"There are several others. If you would like to see one look at one of them, I am looking at this one." Huruyan continued trying to determine what the thing he held did. As the porter approached with more light, Huruyan tried to read the writing attached to the cylinder. Kumahl"Lord Seer," putting out his hand to stop him from coming any further. "Why not determine what the head in the box is and what is saying first. I am here and will assist Huruyan." --- Huruyan turned the cylinder around and over trying to make out the writing and symbols. The cylinder looks like this except the band at the bottom is the cylinder color: www.clker.com/cliparts/e/f/3/7/1320980959247890169extintor_pqs-hi.pngLord Seer took a set back towards the man in the cabinet and then forward towards the obvious things that Kumahl was looking at with Huruyan. Then back again. Finally he joins Dresu in attempting to communicate with the man in the cabinet.

HuruyanSince the part that he was holding in his hand didn't appear to actually be the handle, Huruyan grasped the V shaped part to hold the cylinder. After looking at the cylinder and tube arrangement for a short time Huruyan put it down and took out the red rounded box and tried to see if it was something that made any sense to him, for the cylinder arrangement didn't. --- After some inspection and a suggestion from Kumahl, Huruyan was able to open the red rounded box. Inside was a mostly white object with what looked like an orange handle and three smaller white cylinders. The large white and orange device had a straight thick purple lever on one side and a thin curved purple lever on the other. The curved one was inside one end of a looped section. There was a large orange button visible in front of the open loop. Off the end of the orange handle is a section of string with a piece of shiny metal dangling from it. The cylinders are fastened inside a flat black bar across the closest side of the box. There is strange unreadable lettering on the cylinders but each seems the same. The contents look like this picturearchive.gunauction.com/9268150058/10306975/img_0002_3.jpg_thumbnail0.jpgOn the inside of the lid are images of the white and orange object broken open. One of the thick lever dividing a half circle of red and white and another of a person holding it, unbroken, pointing up.

Huruyan "This stuff is certainly intriguing, but doesn't seem to be valuable or useful right now. I think that we need to get back to looking for the Maw and stop it from killing more people, don't you agree, Kumahl?"
Kumahl Kumahl nods his head, "Primary goal is the Maw. We should continue our descent."
Kumahl squeezes past the porters and the guards and heads for the stairs heading down. Retrieving another rope Kumahl secures it on the current landing. Looking to a nearby porter, "Torch please." With his left hand he holds the rope and with in his right is the torch. Carefully he descends the stairs to the next level.
--- Kumahl descended the extremely slippery stairs with a rope in one hand and a torch in the other.
After a turn down the stairs equal to the one above, he came to another landing where the stairs ended.
This landing was about twenty feet deep and extended ten feet wide on the left and twenty wide on the right, with a long hallway straight ahead.
The entire floor was covered in something that looked like crystallized smoke. With a slip of his foot as Kumahl stepped off of the stairs, some that his foot touched shattered with a high pitched tinkle. A slight haze formed near Kumahl's foot.
The hallway stretched fifty feet to end in a single door. There was a pale cream glow from the ceiling that gave just enough light to make out the doorways opening off the hallway.
There are four doors on the left side of the hallway and two on the right. On the right side of the stairwell there was a door that opened in the opposite direction of the hallway.
Also on the right side, which was wider than the left, there was a sofa and a small table. Beside the sofa was what looked like a bookcase.
From the stairwell, Kumahl could not see to the left without walking out towards the hallway.
Again, everything was covered in what looked like crystallized smoke.

Kumahl Kumahl looks for somewhere to lodge the torch. He then investigates the crystallized smoke. If he can, he will use his staff in a sweeping motion, trying to move the crystals out of the way.
--- After lodging his torch in the curve of the handrail at the bottom of the stairs, Kumahl uses his staff in a sweeping motion.
With a crescendo of tinkling the floor in front of the stairs is swept of the crystals and a fine haze floats above the floor.
On inspection, Kumahl observes that his staff has a blue fuzzy coating where spines of the crystals have become embedded along its length.

Kumahl Flipping the fuzzy end of his staff up, Kumahl steps down the hallway away from the stair well, then sticks his staff towards the torch flame.
--- As Kumahl stepped back he could see on the other side of the stairwell wall. On that side was a matching door that opened out as well.
Even the slightest flame seared off the blue fuzz from his staff but Kumahl's ankles started to itch as he stood in the smokey haze.

Kumahl Kumahl makes a quick dash to the second step on the stairs. Grabbing the hand rail to steady himself he bends down to check out his ankles and legs.
--- On careful inspection Kumahl notices a slight bluish tinge to the skin on his ankles.
The itching has not gotten worse, or better. He is strongly tempted to scratch the itching.

Huruyan Huruyan heads down after Kumahl using the rope and bringing another torch. He instructs the others to follow after he calls for them.
Kumahl Kumahl will do his best to ignore the desire to itch.
Pointing to the crystalline smoke on the ground, "Never had that on the islands."
Grabbing the anchored torch, Kumahl leans down towards the floor and tries to light the crystalline smoke a few feet away from the stairs.
--- Lord Seer and Dresu continued to babble at the man in the cabinet as Huruyan joins Kumahl. They swung between excited and frustrated as an odd word here and there was recognized.
They acknowledged that he will summon them if it is safe to descend further down the stairs.
Kumahl's application of the torch consumed the smoky haze where it touched.

Huruyan "Careful, Kumahl that sort of thing might give off toxic gasses and we are underground."
Kumahl Resecuring the torch to the banister. Kumahl points to his ankles and feet, "Stepping in it gives you a rash worth scratching, but no rash."
--- From upstairs echoed the orders of Lord Seer directing porters to pick up things.
Where they were it was eerily quiet with only the whisper of flame and the sigh of air.

Kumahl "Got several doors down here. Any ideas on where to proceed?"
Huruyan "Do any of the doors look like they are main corridor doors instead of a door that might lead into a room?" Right after asking Kumahl, Huruyan looks at all the doors he can see to try to determine which door might be a main corridor door.
--- Both Huruyan and Kumahl agree that the door at the end of the corridor is a main door.
They also thought that the doors beside the stairs could be main doors as they look a little bit sturdier than what they can tell from the others.

Kumahl "Brother, the door at the end of the hallway."
Taking a waterskin from his pack he checks for results with sprinkled water on the crystalized smoke as he walks his way down the hallway.
"Light another torch if you would."
--- Each drop of the sprinkled water splatters on the floor dissolving whatever smoke it touches on the way.
When he is halfway down the hallway Kumahl, and Huruyan, heard a meaty thud and a scream from up the stairwell.

Kumahl Cursing under his breath, Kumahl looks back at the stairs.
"No way to tell what is going on down here. Shall we go save them from themselves?"
With waterskin in hand he proceeds to wrap a leather cord around the slack end to build pressure in the waterskin. As he walks back towards Huruyan, he squeezes and sprays the remaining water across the floor and the crystal smoke.
Huruyan Huruyan and Kumahl head back to the stairwell. Arriving at the stairs Huruyan heads up and calls out, "What has happened?"
--- While Huruyan carefully pulled himself up the slippery stairs two steps at a time using the rope, he heard the rumble of Dresu's voice.
"Form two lines with your spears!" "Try to push it back!"
Lord Seer was also issuing commands. "Don't let it near the stairs, that is our only way out!"

Huruyan When he heard Dresu and Lord Seer, Huruyan grabbed his flail and continued up the stairs but just a little more cautiously.
--- The sound of a person moaning drifts down the stairs almost covered by the thud and clack of fighting.
There is sound of several booted feet squishing followed by the sound like an impalement. This is followed by the groan of a woman's voice.
Lord Seer is heard commanding "You guards, help them!"

Huruyan Huruyan calls back to Kumahl, "Definitely need you up here as soon as possible!" Huruyan continues up the stairs.
Kumahl Watching Huruyan disappear up the stairwell, Kumahl straps his staff to his pack. Turning momentarily towards a patch of crystal smoke, he grabs some up in a leather pouch and crushes it up when he can.
Grabbing the rope he begins working his way back up the stairs.
--- As Huruyan reached high enough up the stairs to see, a gruesome sight met his eyes. In front of the now open doorway to the left of the cabinet with the man, a pallid, convoluted, eight foot tall leafy-looking creature stood. Suddenly it swayed forward upon its mobile stalk to strike with woody appearing claws, from its convoluted folds, at Guardsman Turisan. One of the claws was driven completely through Turisan's body.
Beside him, barely standing and bleeding profusely was Guardswoman Ninue. As he watched, she threw herself and her spear into the thing before falling to the floor.
Against the wall on the other side of the landing an injured porter was crawling away leaving a trail in the mold on the floor.
Confronting the creature, Guardsman Lazhato was between Turisan and the crawling porter.
Also arrayed against it and between Huruyan and Ninue were the Guards Ssiyor and Pelmu
Huruyan saw Guardsman Lazhato drive his spear deep into the creature. Guardsman Turisan followed by skewering some of its leaf like protrusions.
It did not look to be seriously damaged by their attacks.
Guardsman Ssiyor was startled by the sound of Huruyan coming up on his flank and had his spear batted aside by a claw.

Kumahl Noting the slippery conditions with the muck covering the stairs, Kumahl holds a few steps below Huruyan trying not to push past him and cause further injuries to those on the landing ahead.
Huruyan As soon as he can, Huruyan tries his luck against the creature with his flail.
--- With the battle raging around him, Servant Darakdakin managed to crawl behind the line of guards. He continued crawling to where the rest of the servants were gathered, near Lord Seer and Merchant Dresu.
Guardsman Turisan struggled to get his spear clear, he was unable to as he collapsed in a pool of blood beside Guardswoman Ninue. Guardsman Lazhato was not able to land a solid blow while trying not to trip over the bodies of Turisan and Ninue. With the bodies in the way, Guardsman Lazhato missed one of his dodges and was buckled by a claw through his chest.
Among the rest, the batting claws and the swaying trunk deflected their stabbing spears but kept the thing's attention enough for Guardswoman Pelmu to skewer it.
Coming at the creature from out of the stairwell, to attack on its flank, Huruyan was also able to land a solid blow on the pallid thing.
Though there were a lot of nicks and gouges, only Guardsman Turisan's spear still jammed through the creature seemed to really effect it. It swayed a little slower than initially but, not enough to give the remaining attackers any advantage.

Huruyan Huruyan attacks again.
Kumahl Huruyan cleared the stair landing and Kumahl hauled himself the rest of the distance to the landing.
"Where the hell did that come from?"
Looking briefly to Dresu and Lord Seer, "Should have separated you two earlier."
Huruyan "Kumahl, Ninue could use your help. She appears to be in bad shape. Also that porter." Huruyan points to the porter crawling away from the battle.
Kumahl "Certainly, just don't die while I am busy elsewhere."
If he needs to, Kumahl will pull Ninue back and out of the fray so that he can tend to her wounds.
Cursing under his breath and shouting a call to a various array of gods, "What a mess. You left me nothing to work with."
Getting to Lazhato by crawling, takes the opportunity to cast Cure Serious Wounds.
--- Suddenly a cloud of spores erupted from the creature filling the area surrounding it.
Guardsman Lazhato was blasted in the face by the cloud blinding him and starting him to coughing. His stab at the creature was thrown off the spores in his face and Kumahl's hand on his leg.
Guardswoman Pelmu snapped her face away from the blast but missed landing a solid blow because of it.
As one of the creature's claw sunk into her, Guardsman Ssiyor gasped her last breath and her spear skidding along the pallid trunk as she sank to the floor.
Huruyan slammed his mace into the rubbery trunk making a mush where it hit. The face full of spores started him coughing.
With a sliding dive Kumahl crawled to quickly reach Guardsman Lazhato. Once there, he quickly chanted his Cure Serious Wounds stanza while touching Lazhato on the leg.
