Zeb draws his auto pistol. "Okay, we'll go. So put those sticks away, and we'll be out of your hair without any trouble. But the first person who tries something stupid to me or my friend gets a hole in the head." "That includes you, darling," he says to the receptionist. "Come on, Logan. We're not wanted here. Let's go before I turn into a murderer." "I'm with you." Logan says and the pair exit the place. If we meet Jack and Sharron outside, Logan suggest the four move along to the cafe across the road. Once we're seated where we can watch the Clinic's front he'll say, "We're not getting anything from them by being nice, and I think the place is crooked. If Janet got mixed up with them, there's no telling what might have happened. I think we might want to pay them a visit later...maybe after everyone else has left...and see what it is they're really up to."

"We'd all better go in well armed," adds Zeb. "The pair we met only had sticks, but I'm sure they have more lethal weapons available."

"Since the goons are watching," Sharron suggests, "it may be better if we leave for the moment, then come back to the cafe later. At which point, we should scope out the perimeter of the building and look for other entrances/exits, as well as any video surveillance. We definitely need to get in there and figure out what's going on, but we need to have a solid plan."

Logan says nodding, "In the meantime let's see what we can find out about this clinic. See if there are any nasty rumors floating around about it."

((Not sure if anyone else has any ideas, so I'll make a call...))
We'll regroup at the bar, exchange notes, maybe grab some more (or different) equipment, then head back to the cafe by the clinic.
Sharron will ask the waiter/waitress about any gossip involving the clinic while we wait for the clinic to close, then we'll (as inconspicuously as possible) stake out the place for security measures (cameras, other entrances, night guard, etc.).

Also, what time do the clinic and cafe close?
Some time (about 1-2 hours) after the clinic closes to the public, Jack and I will scope out the externals. We'll split up and each cover two sides of the structure (at different times), by casually walking past and making observations, then continuing to the next block and circling back around to the cafe. I'll cover the front and left side, Jack will cover the right side and rear. We're looking for entrances, windows, surveillance equipment, and alarm systems.

Are you guys coordinating with the ship at all on this? Because we have an air/raft on board, in case you'd like transport (or a getaway car).

The roof of the clinic could be a point of entry they wouldn't be expecting, too. I have a question for the Ref about the city. Is it an outdoor city, or inside a habitat of some sort? If it's outside could we land the air/raft on the roof of the clinic without drawing undue attention from the authorities? I ask, in part, because so far all we've seen written about have been ground vehicles.

If it's outside could we land the air/raft on the roof of the clinic without drawing undue attention from the authorities? I ask, in part, because so far all we've seen written about have been ground vehicles. From earlier: The slums are in an older dome that is very fogged by meteorite impacts, and probably leaks a bit. The buildings are pretty run down, converted to tenements and shops from other purposes over the years. Most are 2-3 stories, with shops on the ground floor and apartments above. There certainly is a cafe with view of the Lombard Clinic. Janet's tenement is three streets over and two blocks down from the clinic and her building includes an arms dealer and an electronics shop. You could use an air/raft, they aren't very common just because the domes aren't that large and are connected by underground tunnels or surface tubes, so ground vehicles are most commonly used. Perhaps the biggest issue with using the air/raft would be getting it into the appropriate dome, though could could use it as a hover craft on the normal ground roads to get into the dome.

Yeah, I seemed to remember we were in a dome. Well, what say we rent a lorry or van?
If the buildings are close together or connected, then getting up on the roof is still a possibility, though. Climb up to the roof on some building in the area...fire escape, maybe...then go over the roofs to the clinic's roof.
It's probably easier to jimmy the backdoor, though. I'm sure we'll need to bypass some sort of electronic security to get in without setting off alarms....

I forgot about the domes. Sorry. OOC: Nothing to be sorry about, I know you weren't the only one to forget we were in a dome. I had, too. And it is a good idea to have some transport of our own. What say we go get a van?As the group leaves the cafe, Logan says, "I'm gonna go rent a van for a day or two. We need some wheels inside this dome that can carry us all and isn't too conspicuous. Who wants to go with me?" OOC: So, can we all drive a van/automobile or do we have to have a specific skill for that? If we need a skill Logan has wheeled vehicle-1. Logan will look for a used car lot and tries to rent a van for a couple of days. He's looking for something inconspicuous, so older and used is a good thing. If he can't get them to rent, he'll buy, but he'll want cheap the the idea of reselling it before we lift planet...unless we have room to transport it. It wouldn't hurt to have wheeled transport as well as an air/raft.

Anyone can drive most common vehicles (wheeled, tracked, air/raft, even motor boats), skill is necessary to avoid penalty in extreme situations.
Something like a 15 passenger van would just be a couple tons and would easily fit in your cargo space or on the launch (note that your cargo space is also potential fuel tank space...).

OOC: The problem with transporting ground cars from world to world is that they're generally designed for a specific combination of gravity/atmosphere/local regulation. Change any or all of those factors and you have something that is either unusable, illegal, or downright dangerous.
But renting one sounds like a good option, or buying one and then making a gift of it if we can't sell it (good way to make friends, in case we ever come back this way...)

You are easily able to rent a nondescript van for Cr 50 per day.

How many hardpoints does the van have? (kidding) Only a pop up turret in the roof mounting twin 50 cal machine guns. Getting the model with the plasma guns costs extra and Logan is too cheap to spring for that out of his own pocket.

You are easily able to rent a nondescript van for Cr 50 per day. Logan hands over his bank card and notes that the rental company took out 200 cr. He is told, "Security deposit. You'll get all but 50 cr back when you return it, in the same condition you got it." Logan drives the van over to the bar where everyone is meeting and tells everyone that he's got wheels for the party. So, what's the plan?

Once we settle on a plan, Sharron will relay all the info back to the ship. We should all keep in contact regularly, and have the van and a driver standing by (idling?) maybe a half-block up the street from the clinic. Any other ideas?

Do you want the rest of us in on this? Or should we keep the ship warmed up in case we need to get out of dodge in a hurry?

Do you want the rest of us in on this? Or should we keep the ship warmed up in case we need to get out of dodge in a hurry? Logan needs to be in on it, just to drive the van, if nothing else. BTW, Logan is going to be armed with his auto pistol this time and he'll be wearing Cloth armor under his jumpsuit.

I would think everyone would want to be in on it, but I supposed that's up to everyone! We should definitely have the ship on hot-standby though.

His actions have been limited to a few run-ins with ethically challenged merchants, but nothing that involved breaking and entering. He's staying in the van as the "get away driver."
