What is this? This is the front and back covers of a hex-based outdoor AD&D module, describing the extreme northwest corner of the Wilderness. This is only the first of the 16 Wilderness modules. It can be added to any existing campaign, or it can form the basis for a new campaign. None of the forthcoming Wilderness modules is necessary to fully use this one. It is 100% self-contained. An AD&D module? Is it easy to convert to OD&D, Classic D&D, Swords & Wizardry, etc.?It's as easy as falling off a log. What do I need to use this module?I use Gary's AD&D Monster Manual, Players Handbook, and Dungeon Masters Guide. That's it. You can of course use any similar game. What's so special about it?To me, this is the quintessential fantasy setting for D&D. Who did the map?Dion Williams Who did the cover art?Luigi Castellani When will it be available? It is available right now. What is the price tag?$9.99 That's almost ten bucks! Not really. Lulu has a sale pretty much every day of the year. The code NIGEL35 has worked for a long time, giving a 35% discount. With a 35% discount, the price would be $6.49.

Wow. Looks great! I love the cover piece - very OS.
I notice there are blanks bracketed by letters on the map. Is that some sort of copyright protection for the preview, or is the intention for the DM to make his/her own names up?

To quote the first page of the module: "Some names on the map and in the text have been left incomplete (such as the M___y Mountains) to allow the Dungeon Master to complete the names in accordance with his view of the setting."

The module is now available. Click on the link in my sig for more information. I hope Dungeon Masters and players will have as much enjoyment exploring the lands of the Wilderness as has my group.

Nigel35 didn't work for me. The usual trick of adding it to cart then logging out and waiting for a 25% off email still gets it done.
I look forward to reading it. I've been a fan of everything else you have released.

The Wilderness is one of the two D&D settings (the other being Carcosa) that have been kicking around in my brain since I first started playing D&D back in 1980.

I have a group of players who love 5e and Tolkien. They also groan when I bring up playing AD&D or OD&D. I'm not a fan of the high level of magic that is written into the 5e PHB. So this got me thinking, how about running Adventures in Middle-Earth (the 5e compatible phb for Middle-Earth) using Worm Wars of the Dwarven Ice Kings. It'll be really easy to fill in those blank names.

Using it as a portion of Middle-earth certainly makes sense.

I really want to get this, but I know that there are more coming (Lulu bulk discount!). Geoffrey, any intention of doing an all in one of the 16 modules (assuming that they are linked somehow)? And/or maybe an all-in-one treatment of the Carcosa modules?

I really want to get this, but I know that there are more coming (Lulu bulk discount!). Geoffrey, any intention of doing an all in one of the 16 modules (assuming that they are linked somehow)? And/or maybe an all-in-one treatment of the Carcosa modules? Waiting for all 16 would tax the patience of any but a saint. At top speed, it will take me three months to finish each module. (For comparison, Worm Wars of the Dwarven Ice Kings took 5 months because of unforeseen delays.) For fifteen more Wilderness modules, that's 45 months, or 3 years and 9 months--late 2020! Think of each of the Wilderness modules as a Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser story: Each is 100% stand-alone, and they also go together. Now for your question about all-in-one compilations of the Wilderness modules and of the Carcosa modules: That would be cool, but a big problem would be the maps. One of the main reasons I structure my modules the way I do is the fact that the full-color maps can be inexpensively put on the back covers. How would I do the color maps with 8 of them (in the case of Carcosa) or 16 of them (in the case of the Wilderness)? Poster maps? Perhaps, but that can get expensive really fast. As far as I can tell, doing the modules the way I'm doing them is the least expensive option. Perhaps, though, by the time we get to the year 2020 there will be inexpensive options for poster maps.

Come now Geoffrey, with all of those trips to Carcosa you must have doffed the shackles of Space and Time by now?
