One of those movies that you can't forget, whether you liked it or not. Very unevenly directed and edited, but greater than the sum of its parts. The question that is never answered is "Why is Sean Connery wearing Vampirella's outfit?"

Yeah, it's a pretty ridiculous movie. However, when I saw it as a wee lad, I was completely blown away by the ending. You know, impressionable youth and all that.
You'll never catch me in a red Speedo, though...

May I add...
WIZARDS (1977, Ralph Bakshi), HEAVY METAL (1981, Gerald Potterton), and THE HOLY MOUNTAIN (1973, Alejandro Jodorowsky)? I don't know why I didn't include these three on my first list. Massive oversight.

Watched "The Abyss" (1989) tonight. Certainly, also one of my favorite movies of all time. For no particular reason - virtually nothing else Cameron did ever interested me; that one, though, I liked, and a lot.

The Abyss is a good movie, and I agree it's different and better than a lot of his other stuff.
Side note, I got free tickets to that through a radio station's promotion. Just about the only time I've ever won anything!

And this one. Influenced me greatly, in every possible way. In fact, opened me to serious literature, when I was but a teen obsessed with fantasy tales. Okay... This was meant to link to "Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade", but now links to some random "Battle of Britain" video. Youtube is having a hickup, it seems.

I re-subscribed to Netflix this fall, and hence have been watching "The Last Kingdom": The first two seasons are relatively corny; my understanding is that they were produced by a different company. The third (and last?) season is amazing, though; some of the very, very best of "swords & sorcery"-ish and medieval television I have ever watched. - The books are nice, as well, but the TV-related streamline does them good. I recommend it highly.

I couldn't quite get into them, maybe also because back then "Vikings" and "Game of Thrones" were setting new standards when it came to big-budget TV, and TLK in comparison seemed a bit low-fi. I watched them because I'd read part of the series, as a dutiful fan, so to speak. Now, maybe it's the influence by Netflix, maybe it's the plot of the third season being stronger, but this last season really blew me off my feet. I NEVER binge on anything (but audiobooks while driving ). This one, I binged on.

Are we talking just movies relevant to D&D or RPGs? Because my current favorite movie in general is Amélie, and my previous favorite for a long time was Brazil, although I'm not sure you could relate either of them to D&D. Somewhere between Amélie and Brazil it may have briefly been O Brother Where Art Thou? which might be considered a better fit for D&D, since it perfectly describes a typical adventuring party.
Beyond that, my favorites tend to be restricted to narrow topics (favorite realistic space exploration movie, etc.) and vary depending on my mood, so it's not really easy for me to create a list. Conan the Barbarian is my favorite barbarian fantasy movie, Excalibur is my favorite Arthurian fantasy movie, and Errol Flynn's Robin Hood might be my favorite period action adventure movie. And yeah, Zardoz and the original King Kong are favorites from time to time, too.

We binged the first 5 episodes and had to force ourselves to stop to get some sleep. A lot of other shows could learn a thing or three from this season of Last Kingdom.

Netflix is becoming a vice of mine; I will cancel it in February, until "The Last Kingdom" returns with season four. ...But until then, watching "The Punisher", and, oooh, it's glorious. Not very oriented on the comics, but still, reasonably fun. So are "Io", and that awesome "Marco Polo" show.
...But "The Punisher" it is, for tonight. Yayay!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
So, today I already learned that "John" Wick is, in fact, not a movie exploring an aging professor's relationship with his dog.
That'd be "Hachi: A Dog's Tale".
"John Wick" is "John Wick".

In chronological order, these are the movies I rated 10 stars on IMDB:
Nosferatu (1922) Metropolis (1927) The Rules of the Game (1939) Citizen Kane (1941) Casablanca (1942) Sunset Boulevard (1950) Seven Samurai (1954) Breathless (1960) Psycho (1960) Through a Glass Darkly (1961) Winter Light (1963) Band of Outsiders (1964) Dr. Strangelove (1964) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) Persona (1966) The Godfather: Part II (1974) Mikey and Nicky (1976) Annie Hall (1977) Star Wars (1977) Dawn of the Dead (1978) The Thing (1982)
Exactly one of those films came out after I was born. This is saying something. Ingmar Bergman is over-represented as a single director, and even in a single period of his work, but oh well.

With a TV for the first time in, well... Since whenever watched the last episode of "Game of Thrones". Binging hard on "The Wildling", "Black Rain", and, finally, "NOS4A2", a TV series based on the Joe Hill novel. That last one, in particular, excellent entertainment, and I think I'm going to read the book now, if the series doesn't cover its story completely. Not much of the series type - but this one has me charmed.

Apropos of nothing, watching (German dubbed version of) "The Last King" right now while I'm doing some menial paperwork: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_KingBy Odin, this is excellent! (At least so far.) Watch it if you get the chance!

Not really a candidate for my "best of" list, but just started watching "Carnival Row". - 'Dis gonna be a cult classic. The story, so far, is really forgettable, but the setting is extremely well done. Go, and watch this if you can!
