Orofer could probably figure out how to reset the trap and then wedge the pole in to prevent it from opening again. The problem is that would leave him inside the pit since all the trap workings that he can see are below the level of the floor. Of course after people get the secret door open, he could unjam the trap and let it open again so he could get out...
FitZ says " let's bring orofor up and see if the mechanism to open and close the pit is on our level. " while waiting Fitz uses his natural Dwarven abilities to see if there is a mechanism in the stone to open and close the pit.
OK, Orofer gives up and asks to be hauled back up. Does the pit fill the entire square, or could we put the 10 foot pole across it and Orofer could swing hand over hand across the pit and check the door?
Currently running OD&D Verbosh Campaign (I can usually squeeze in an extra player)
There is enough of a lip that you could use the 10' pole to get across the pit. He'd probably want to balance beam across rather than hand over hand, and you could certainly put it close enough to one wall to be able to use the wall for additional balance.
Opening the door on the other hand would be a bit of a challenge while balancing on the pole, and only one person would be able to make the attempt at one time.
