Hey all,
I decided at the last minute to go to Winter's Dark con put on by TLG over in Lake Geneva, and managed to get in on a session of OD&D over at Gary's house. It was my first time playing OD&D, and it was awesome!
One person's character dies right away by a poisonous spider, then we wandered around in the first level of the old greyhawk dungeon, and ended after we whupped up a group of ogres when we found a stair leading down to level 3 from level 1. It was a great experience!

Oh, now that is very cool! Good for you, Dan! If you can sit in on my game at Gamicon, then I can finally hear how my DMing compares to Gygax! Very neat

Hey Dan. I say move this post to the General Board (or Fin could - that is, if it's OK Fin), just because it's a post worth looking at, I hope. Great to game with you Dan (his wife games too!! Is he the luckiest man alive??).

Heh, too bad you guys didn't make a full map -- we could compare it to the ENWorld mods' map from GenCon to see if there's any overlap (they entered via the NW corner, you headed in a north and westerly direction...).

Hi TF. I'm working on this. I've emailed our mapper and hope to see if he still has his copy. And of course, I'm sorry I didn't think of talking with him after the game to make sure this would be taken care of! I think we were all caught up in the moment and saying goodbyes and thank yous etc. and didn't think to chat about this. But maybe he'll come through. Good thought on the ENworld gang. Did they post their map? I remember reading the threads about the game, but don't recall a map.

Thanks for the link to that map, Foster. From what I can tell (and as I think back) Gary asked us what part of the ruins we explored, and we explored the center. The map you linked to shows that they entered from the NW tower. So my guess is that the part we explored is more to the west, and I don't think the part we explored links up to that one with any area we explored.

...forgot to explicitly say this, so we entered the dungeon from the center of the ruins, not from any tower, as far as I can tell.

Yep. Here's the thread, the map is attached to post #173. Thanks, much appreciated. Nice idea that guy had to take his scribbles and put them into some nice map program to produce that final result.

One day I'm going to take the scattered explorations of the ruins of Castle Greyhawk that have been shared, and see if they all connect: the ENWorld mods, your posts, Deogolf's posts on DF, and (if I can find it) Paul Stormberg's old auctioned map from a few years ago....
