Is that Yor the Hunter from the Future? Its a caveman/S&S type film up until a certain point it becomes Star Wars and they get into laser battles. It is also VERY BAAAD! No, after some reasearch, I think it was a dubbed version of Umberto Lenzi's Ironmaster with a different title. Hahaha!! Ironmaster. Good one. I am ashamed to say that I have seen this thing more than once " They will come to know the strength and power of Vood!!!" The not so special effects were great. I still remember the volcano shot of a model that looked like a cigarette had been put out in the top for the " smoke effect".

While not swords & sorcery or even in the fantasy genre, I think one of the most D&D like movies is......Goonies.
-a diverse party where everyone has a role and there's no main superstar. -delving undergound in search of loot. -an unlikely ally -traps, bad guys, skeletons, and ghosts

FIRE AND ICE: Rotoscope animation by Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta(!!) Standard sword & sorcery stuff with all the cliches that you would expect, but very well done and a lot of fun. If you are looking for some pulp-fantasy inspiration, this is one you'll want to see. Fire and Ice was just released in a 2-disk DVD edition, which includes a documentary about Frank Frazetta and a 3-D slipcover. I just got a coupon from Borders in my email, so I went out last night and splurged (though I was sorely tempted by Tinker, Tailor, Soldier. Spy...) haven't had a chance to WATCH it yet - hopefully I will have some time and/or energy this weekend.

I just finshed watching the Conan the Barbrian DVD (for about the sixth time). I still heartily enjoy that old 1981 flick. Not so much the sequel, but the Destroyer isn't bad as far as the S&S movie genre goes. I recently watched Conan the Destroyer (probably for the 3rd or 4th time in all these years) and I'm just liking it more and more. Not sure why. It's lighter and not as dark and S&S as the first one, but still it's very entertaining. Grace Jones practically stole the movie. Too bad there never was a 3rd movie, it would have been interesting to see where they might have taken the Conan character and story. [Heh, it's not too late for Conan III is it?? If Harrison can do it, Arnold sure can!!!] ;D

News from the Rumor Mill (Please note the word RUMOR) is that there are no less than three Conan projects in the works.
1. A third live action Conan film. No word on who dons the loincloth in this one yet.
2. The animated Conan film Red Nails, starring Ron Perlman, which supposedly was finished years ago but has yet to see the light of day.
3. A live action film detailing the origin of Thulsa Doom, the evil warlord from the first Conan movie.
Again, at this point all we have are rumors, but STRONG rumors from sites and sources that have proven reliable in the past. I've seen stills from Red Nails and have no idea why it never came out.
If anybody out there has any further information, please share.

Hmm, Arnold can't run for Pres - so I wonder about his continued political aspirations. Senate? Maybe. Nawwww.
He's got to be missing the limelight of being a big Hollywood Star, no??
It's time Arnold!!! What better movie than a Conan III.
The clock is ticking dude . . . tick, tick
;D

Yeah. Arnie would be about ready now for The Phoenix on the Sword/By This Axe I Rule story or The Hour of the Dragon. He may be a little long in the tooth for the later story, but that's what FX makeup and CGI are for.

I cannot believe anyone forgot... THE DUNGEONMASTER!!!!! It's not pure S&S though, it starts out in the present (1980's) with a computer whiz that gets sucked into a different dimension. Very cheesy, but worth a watch if you enjoy eating bad food, reading bad books, and watching bad movies. I do, so of course I own it!
EDIT: If anyone hasn't watched the commentary on Conan with Arnie+John Milius, drop what you are doing and watch it! It's cringe-worthy and hilarious. You will continually ask yourself, "wait a minute, did Arnold just say that?"

The Magic Sword, 1961. Gary Lockwood, Estelle Winwood and as the evil Wizard, Basil Rathbone! Not sure if mentioned above: "The Raven" (directed by Roger Corman and Jack Nicholson's first film role, along side Price, Lorre and Karloff) from which EGG derived many spells (see my blog: lordofthegreendragons.blogspot.com/2009/03/movie-time-garys-house.html ) and the Seven Faces of Doctor Lao (Tony Randall playing many characters w/Barbara Eden no less).
