Does anyone have any experience with or thoughts about this particular retroclone? matt-landofnod.blogspot.com/p/blood-treasure.htmlIn particular, the unique "Bloody Basic" editions have captured my attention and interest. I've just picked up the "Mother Goose" edition (with rules for adventures inspired by fairy tales) and the "Sinew & Steel" edition (with rules for non-supernatural medieval adventure). Those who prefer more minimal options might find Mr. Stater's style of design to be a little cluttered; he offers a cornucopia of subclasses and options for characters and activities. However, as with most OSR material, it seems easy to adapt for whatever one's purposes or preferences are. At the very least, his work is certainly inspiring in how flavorful it is; simply reading the rules has certainly given me some ideas for adventure locales, encounters, and characters!

In short: Bloody Basic in all of its iterations is brilliant. Mostly, I guess, because if its many iterations.

I tried "basic" but couldn't see anything to separate it from the other clones. Except that rather than use the term "referee" we have to put up with "Treasure Keeper" which made me die a little inside.

My main problem is that I really despise Calibri as a typeface.

My main problem is that I really despise Calibri as a typeface. I downloaded a character sheet for Basic Fantasy RPG last night. It was in Comic Sans. Still recovering...

I really like Bloody Basic. I think it works out as a pretty good "white box" experience. Plus with all the different editions, you can mix and match and create your own customized game. I agree that the layout is a weak point. I think it would be bettered served in booklet format and with a serif font. I also would like for it to go to level 10, but that is pretty easy to house rule in.
