This means War! Time for a poll..
I'll just list what I consider to be the big three as options. I do list an 'other' option if you like some other publisher over these choices. Note this is for hex and chit style or block etc style wargames, not miniatures based wargames.
This was a hard choice for me.

SPI
I could not stand AH's: - mounted boards (which warped and mismatched) - glossy counters (hard to read) - rule sets (couldn't find anything)
Plus SPI covered esoteric eras instead of the boring same-old that AH did
That being said, Squad Leader/Cross of Iron is almost the perfect game, and we played a lot of Wooden Ships and Iron Men

BTW GDW was a strong second for me: Iliad: The Siege of Troy, Imperium, Fifth Frontier War, Fire In the East - awesome games

I voted AH, mainly because I own and play(ed) a lot more AH games than SPI games.

I've been playing wargames since 1963 (started with Avalon-Hill's Gettsyburg). Have played lots of AH and SPI titles; but over the past 25 years or so, GMT has really led the field in interesting gaming situations, ongoing series, and graphics excellence.

...and I am big fan of the Gamers, SPI (my wife scored a copy of Berg's Bloody April for xmas for me), MMP, and GDW. So, it wasn't an easy choice.

My gut feeling would be Avalon Hill because I love Kingmaker and used to play a lot of Third Reich and others, but when I started thinking about all of the cool SPI games ( War of the Ring, PRESTAGS, Creature that Ate Sheboygan, etc) I ended up voting for SPI. I'm not sure which of the two companies has actually produced more games that I have played and enjoyed. It has to be close and I wish I could vote for two since AH and SPI are by far my favorites. Also, I liked reading Jim Dunnigan's book about wargame design. That tipped the balance to SPI as my vote.

So I suppose I shall be the odd one out here. Besides games like East Front and Squad Leader, also the hex & chit Starship Troopers game, most of my wargaming interests are outside of hex & chit. I would say as an overall, that WRG is moreso my favorite excluding anything particularly new in wargaming. Their WWII and Moderns rules changed a fair bit over the editions, but they're quite the blast. I haven't played much of their medievals, ancients, or napoleonic rules though.
Has the Wargaming subforum existed for a while now, or is it a recent thing?

I had to go with Avalon Hill based on analysis of my BGG ratings, but it's hard for me to choose since I think they are/were all great companies. Metagaming, Task Force, GDW and Columbia all have some classic games on offer as well. I'd like to try more MMP or Compass stuff.
