Clybe also spoke up. "I have taken a day or two off in the midst of my training, the likes of which I know Ramon at least is familiar with in recent days. We have a lot of hands here... how many of us are needed to handle this siege?"
"Axen, I would be happy to help you. Or help you find assistance in this matter. The clergymen most devoted to St. Cuthbert or Delleb might be your best bet as they would be most likely to oppose the befuddlement this drug creates," Ramon suggested.
Semer says " the marching order sounds fine sir. "
Caltaran says " I also agree to the marching order. Axen when we get done with this dungeon I will also like to offer u some assistance. If these drugs are killing families than this needs to stop and those selling these needs to be brought to justice. By the way there has been a report that the dracolisk was flying in the direction of ryemond. So its possible we may find it there. If some of you are injured I could cast healing spells on you I would have two less in the dungeon."

Day 17, turns 3a for Caltaran, Semeragin, Ramon, Joaquim, Marcel, Axen, Clybe, (Koldo, Gautier, Cahir, Ibai, Laetitia):
Prefect Alamilla was there to see them off. "Of course you shall have free healing," he said. He made some an adept -- and Subdeacon Gutxi Azarola himself -- come over and heal their wounds. After short and solemn prayers to Rao, Joaquim and Axen felt good as new!
Axen realized that everyone save perhaps Clybe and the disappearing Ximo were headed to Ryemend. "I will go along with you and help as well. I am ... hesitant to take on this opium problem with just two or three people. A larger group would be more appropriate, as I anticipate some significant resistance."
Clybe hesitated. Would it be better for him to train or to go along on this Ryemend trip? He had actually hoped several people would stay in Verbobonc and go to this opium den, as he figured it would look like a great service for the city and also not take too long.
During his hesitation, it became clear that the others were all preparing to depart, so he decided to depart along with them. "Axen, I will go along with you on this trip. Perhaps together we can convince some of these folks that the opium cartel is a problem that we can dispatch easily upon our return."

Day 16/Turn 13 for Ramon:
When Ramon was on his way downstairs to the lower level, he thought back to the last thing he'd accomplished before this mission. It was last night, talking to Curate Martin...
"This project you described to me is a wonderful thing," Hector told him. "I would be honored to help. Take the lead? Really? Well...yes, I suppose I could. I am sure you will return soon, safely, from Ryemend. But...regardless, I promise to make sure this tribute is completed."
"Wonderful, Brother. It will be a noble monument to the city's struggles and eventual triumph. When I return we will visit with some of the martyrs' families," Ramon answered. It was good to know someone else shared his vision.

Day 17, turn 18 for Ximo:
Ximo had taken such a leisurely stroll across half the city that, by the time he finally reached the gates of the Inner Bailey, his stomach was rumbling again and signaling it would soon be dinner time!
Ximo had a long wait to get in, as a heavy patrol -- maybe 30 soldiers, was leaving the bailey and demanded the way be cleared for them. Then, once people were back in line, there was a weapon search on everyone going in.
"Can't be too careful," the sentry searching Ximo said soon at the gate, not quite apologetically. "Security of the homeland is important, you know."
Once this hurtle was passed (and Ximo's weapons had been judged unworthy of confiscation), Ximo had no trouble in walking up to the temple entrance. Ximo observed that there was not even a paladin on guard duty at the entrance, but two extra lay guards in leather armor.
"Today's not Godsday," one of these sentries observed. "What business brings you to the temple?"

Day 17, turn 19 for Ximo:
The lay guards seemed uninterested in helping Ximo, but would not stand in his way from finding a priest either. "Go in," he was rudely told.
Ximo found more friendly help from the acolytes inside the main chapel. In fact, they overshot the curate and brought Ximo straight to the attention of Lama Gaspar Cloutier. Only in his 40s, Gaspar seemed a lot less feeble and infirm than much of the higher hierarchy of the temple.
"You are looking for Curate Ramon Orfino?" Lama Cloutier asked. "He is on an important mission for the church now. In fact, you may have picked a poor time to talk to anyone, as there are many preparations going on here today. Is this about an emergency?"

Day 17, turn 26 for Caltaran, Semeragin:
Later, Caltaran and Semeragin returned to the Inner Bailey. This took quite a lot of time, as they had to walk from Ryemend to Verbobonc, cross the Business Quarter, the High Quarter, and finally come around to the south-facing gates of the Inner Bailey. And, somehow, Caltaran got turned around for a moment and thought there was a temple district in the city. They encountered no one in particular en route, though they did notice a step-up in armed patrols around the Business Quarter.
Caltaran was surprised to see lay guards at the temple entrance, with not a paladin in sight. "They're busy," was all the uninterested guard had to say in explanation.
Inside, only acolytes were about in the main chapel, but one of them was able to fetch Caltaran's fellow curate Hector Martin to talk to.
"You've returned so soon. Successfully? Ah, if the mission is not over yet, we can dispense with a report for now. What do you need? I see. Can you specify what you need in terms of aide and supplies?"
Curate Martin listened and nodded. After hearing all Caltaran had to say, he turned to Semeragin.
"Are you hurt?" Martin asked. Semeragin had been stoically silent, as if not possessing a personality at all. "If you need rest, you should hie to the House of Healing, in the Dawn Quarter, and rest there."
"It is important to the future life of one man, or gnome, I should say," Ximo said dramatically and led Lama Gaspar to a quiet corner. "A friend of mine, a fellow member of the Consortium, has come under some suspicion. The fear is that he has been charmed by the Cult. Curate Ramon had agreed to help me by using Delleb's wisdom to divine if the gnome was under the effects of a magical ensorcellment or not. I had come to trust the discretion of the young Curate. But I hear I might be able to trust such from you, Lama."
"A wise man like you does not need me to explain that this all should be done in a manner that does risks neither inflaming suspicion among the people of Verbobonc nor could put a dark spot on the life of an innocent gnome. Are you able to help me and him?"
Lama Gaspar replied. And afterwards Ximo took the opportunity to ask why the Castle and Cathedral seemed so empty, what were the preparations?

Semer says " I could use some healing and rest. "
Caltaran says ",semer you can use my quarters. Unless this is a breach of protocol".
Caltaran asks his fellow curate" the exploration is going well. We rescued some orphans and they need food, water and shelter. The orphanage was destroyed in the fire and they don't have a place to go and our place is the safest. Also the dungeon is filled with monsters and we can use some assistance. Is there any clerics or paladins available .We need them for standard dungeon exploration, combat and healing. "

Day 17, turn 19a for Ximo:
Lama Gaspar seemed uncertain if he was positive about Ximo's reasoning. "If you were highly placed in the Consortium, then I think you would already have some inkling as to why we are busier than usual today. If you are not highly placed, then I should probably not tell you. As for detecting charms...it is true there is a minor miracle we can ask for from the gods that does that, it is not one we commonly request. If you are willing to wait, I will ask around and see if anyone foresaw needing it today. Or I will cast it for you tomorrow. But -- and I am sure Ramon mentioned this -- that we would be expecting a donation in return? Say, something valued at 40 gold pieces or more?

Day 17, turn 26a for Caltaran, Semeragin:
Hector Martin seemed concerned by practically everything Caltaran said. "What? you would let a lay soldier use quarters meant specifically for use by curates? Why don't we just let random strangers sleep in the priests' quarters while we're at it!"
It took some calming down and a promise that Semeragin would rest elsewhere before Hector would hear more.
"Curate Orfino was in charge of organizing that mission to Ryemend," Martin said. "Are you saying that Ramon did not prepare properly for the amount of fighting and healing that would be needed...?"

Caltaran says " the resistance we are facing now is more then we were expecting so Ramon planned based on all the information we had. We also rescued some orphans who can use our assistance since the orphanage was burned down by the cultists. Plus thus assistance will show the town of ryemond that the church cares about the outskirt villages. "
"Yes, of course Ramon mentioned the donation. And I already made it in preparation for this day. If he is not available then please do seek someone who might have the blessing available, and one who can be discreet, I hope," Ximo said smoothly.
"As for my placement in the Consortium, I have been sequestered preparing at the orders of the very highest in the Consortium. That they have not kept me in the know is by virtue of my immersion in this task, the which has brought me here seeking your absent priest."

Day 17, turn 20-23 for Ximo:
Ximo made himself at home in the temple and found it actually relaxing. He hoped that something good would come of this as an hour passed...and then two. He was starving for something to eat, thought about gorging himself at a feast at the Spruce Goose, since he had not done so in some time, but felt no urgency. He didn't feel like there was any urgency in his life now, other than this one task. It was an unusual moment of focus and clarity. Divinely inspired? Perhaps...
At last, an old man in his 70s, walking with a staff, and wearing a long traveling cloak over costly clerical raiment, walked slowly up to Ximo.
"Excuse me," the old man said, "but I am Archdeacon Ferrero, and I believe you have been waiting for me. When I prayed this morning, Zilchus told me I would need to prepare to detect charms today. I am so prepared. This dwarf, he is at the Consortium? I am prepared to travel there. It has been...quite some time since I last visited there. It will be nice to be back. Shall we...?"
Ximo jumped up to his feet and gave a brief bow to the old priest, "Praise Zilchus. I am glad to make your acquaintance. It is a gnome who requires your blessing, Archdeacon. But I will be glad to escort you to his presence. I am called Ximo the Humble."
Ximo fell into step with Archdeacon Ferrero, "Tell me, when was your last visit to the Consortium? I had not heard of any priests darkening its doors. Was it business like that today?"

Day 18, turn 3 for Semeragin:
Semeragin had been stopped, searched, and questioned before going into the Bailey. Both the castle the temple seemed quiet, as if waiting for a coming storm.
Axen Mackon and the acolyte Curro Crespo greeted Semeragin at the entrance to the temple. "Welcome, Semeragin!" Curro said, shaking his hand. "Good to see another conquering hero safely back from Ryemend."

Day 18, turn 3a for Semeragin:
"I suspect the hobbit knows more about what's going on around here than I do," Crespo said. "I will leave you two to discuss it without me..."
Actually, Axen got up and walked away from the temple for discussing things with Semeragin. "I guess the raid is happening today," Axen said with a shrug. He kicked a pebble with his little hairy foot while looking down at the ground. "Not that I feel very motivated anymore. I mean, there's so many things going on around here, I get so I can't even keep track of them anymore. I was thinking about climbing a tree instead."
