Day 14, turn 7 for Caltaran:
Caltaran got a surprisingly good reaction, considering he spent zero time prepping what he was going to say, and barely remembered what he said afterwards. He was still thinking about how soon he should tell his superiors he was giving up on all the tasks he had vowed to accomplish in Verbobonc when he overheard two clerics whispering to each other that the Temple of the Journey had been attacked already this morning.
As the service ended, Clybe decided to watch carefully and see what some of the servants of Zilchus did. Were they departing to go to the fight at the temple? Or were they engaged in other duties? He felt that if the other followers of Zilchus were heading to the fight, he should put in an appearance there, but if not, he should return to his training. After all, isn't part of training learning what those ahead of you in rank choose to do in key moments?

Day 15, turns 7-9 for Clybe:
The services did not end early and the services were never short. There were still three more deities to be represented in services and the remainder of the services ran another two hours. By now, whatever had occurred at the Temple of the Journey was surely over.
Clybe watched the priests in charge confer from a respectable distance. The clerics of Heironeous wanted to leave soon to go check on their "neighbor" temple. The clerics of Cuthbert wanted to take the fight straight to Dieg Manor. The clerics of Delleb and Rao wanted more time to study. The clerics of Zilchus were busy counting donations and only half-paid attention. Their detachment from the crisis told Clybe he had chosen wisely in also not getting involved. Yet, when Clybe approached someone about training...it seemed the priests of Zilchus were done with him.
"Zilchus is pleased with your progress," one of the priests told Clybe (how did he know?). "I think Clybe had best take the test of Heironeous next, don't you?" the priest asked loudly, and apparently not directed at anyone in particular.
"Certainly," said another priest. "Clybe Sando, if you are ready to face a test of your courage, follow me into the catacombs. Be prepared to trust in Heironeous, completely, for your survival. Are you ready?"

Day 15, turn 10 for Clybe:
Clybe was led by a fellow clergyman down into the catacombs below the temple. The tunnels under the hill the temple stood on where lit by torches, but one narrow side tunnel they came to looked dark as pitch inside.
"Take this candle and go in. Remember, trust only to Heironeous to protect you," he was told.
Clybe's eyes adjusted quickly to the dim light and he could soon see the dead end of the tunnel ahead of him. Just then, a figure popped up out of nowhere in front of him. It looked like a goblin, but tall and stretched impossibly thin. Its torso shriveled and caved in as he watched. It was horrific -- so horrific that Clybe found he had dropped the candle and was running away. He saw, but could not react to, the look of surprise on the clergyman's face as he ran past. The next thing Clybe knew, he was running up the stairs to get away, but tripped and fell forward.
The thing after that Clybe was aware of was sitting in the corner of one of the ground floor tombs, shaking. The cleric from earlier was kneeling in front of him, with his hand on Clybe's shoulder.
"What happened down there?" he asked Clybe. "That wasn't supposed to happen. No one's ever run like that before."
After calming down a bit, Clybe explained what exactly he had seen down there. He couldn't make heads or tails of the situation, so in those times Clybe knew that the truth was usually the best route to take.

Day 15, turn 10a for Clybe:
The priest listened to what Father Sando described. "That is not what you were meant to encounter! It was only an illusion of a wraith before. Come, we'd best get answers from Prefect Alamilla."
They went to find the prefect and Clybe Sando again described what had happened.
"That sounds like a phantom," the Prefect said. "Possibly one of the goblins who starved in the tunnels. It seems to have taken the place of the illusion we had placed there for training purposes. Clybe, you might have an unusual training opportunity here. If you're ready to face it again, you'll have the chance to observe an exorcism."
Clybe spent an hour wandering around the Inner Bailey listening carefully for stories and greeting people, with his intent being to return to the catacombs after that hour. He gave himself plenty of time to return to ensure he wouldn't be late, as this seemed like a good opportunity to impress. Though, he was a bit unnerved about what happened down there.

Day 15, turn 11 for Clybe:
Clybe and Prefect Gaizka Alamilla rendezvoused at the appointed hour. Gaizka handed a vial to Clybe. "Holy water," Gaizka explained. I will attempt to turn it. You splash it with the holy water. Let us say a quick prayer to Cuthbert to guide our hands..."
The prayer spoken, they went back down to face the goblin-phantom.
...And, 10 minutes later, found they were being calmed down by their fellow priests in the chapter house.
"Well, that was embarrassing," Gaizka said. "We may need to seek out more help on this. Hmm...who would you choose to seek out?"
"Most of the clerics I know well are either quite old and not up for this type of challenge or are involved with the fight over at the temple. My suggestion is that we wait until evening and perhaps I can recruit a cleric or two returning from the battle. Perhaps you can recruit a person or two as well. Shall we meet here after dinner?"

Day 15, turn 14 for Caltaran, Clybe:
The two clergymen did not run into Ramon, though they put out word that they were looking for him.
Caltaran and Clybe compared notes. Caltaran had failed to track down and find two missing ghouls in the city, despite spending a long time trying to track them. And Clybe had tried twice, and failed, to exorcise a phantom from the temple catacombs. Next, they conferred on how to join forces...
Caltaran says " hmm a phantom. Well I did pass a test of heironeous and dealt with a ghost. I can offer some assistance but I would want to make sure that action would not be interfering with your training."
Caltaran thinks for a second and says" Well it looks like the fire has been maintained. Since Ramon is not their maybe he went for a drink. I know Marcel was there too and I have seen him in the bronze unicorn. Perhaps we can see if they are there."
Clybe decides to follow Caltaran to the Bronze Unicorn in hopes of finding other clerics. Along the way, he filled Caltaran in on his doings, mostly related to the phantom. "The events in the dungeon were pretty clearly outside of my training. They sent others down there to see what was going on and they were similarly... rejected."

Caltara fills clybe on the current events of tonights attacks. While walking to the inn caltaran says " maybe this phantasm was summoned by the cultists or this could be a powerful illusion. I have encountered this type of spell in my time in the dungeon where I was wrongfully imprisoned. That is quite a long story. "

Day 15, turns 17 for Caltaran, Ramon, Clybe:
The three curates of the Temple of Heavenly Virtues returned home just as the gates of the Inner Bailey were being sealed for curfew. The sky was all dusky and orange-y as the three men stole up the hill towards the cathedral-like temple. The temple had always seemed like a place of absolutely safety for them in the past, but after the attack of the Dracolisk, and now this phantom business...the deep shadows around the temple carvings, gargoyles, and under the buttresses, all seemed surprisingly dark and menacing that night...
Inside, the curates were greeted by Prefect Gaizka Alamilla, long considered by them one of the leaders of the church, but now "only" Caltaran's immediate supervisor, in their specialty of serving Heironeous.
With him was Hector Martin, the remaining curate of Cuthbert. Though there was divisiveness elsewhere between the three orthodoxies of Cuthbert -- the interpretations of the Billets, the Chapeaus, and the Stars -- all three curates were solidly Billets. Indeed, Hector himself had taught them to be so.
Also with them was the priest, Brother Danilo, also of Cuthbert. There had always been some animosity between Danilo and Clybe when Danilo was Clybe's manager; Clybe could only imagine it was deeper now that Clybe had quickly ascended to Danilo's superior. So Clybe was surprised he had agreed to this undertaking.
"We have a vial of holy water for each of you," Prefect Alamilla said. "Caltaran, Ramon, as Clybe must have told you, the ghost you encountered in your training sessions was only a complex illusion. Now, a real phantom has usurped the illusion's place. We can strike again at this goblin phantom tonight, but we leave the planning in Clybe's hands now, as part of his training. What should we do?"
"I will go in first, as I know what to expect from the phantom. He will bedazzle me in some fashion... I honestly don't know how it will appear to the rest of you, but the recollections are... horrible. Stay back and follow me and then strike with the holy water when you see the phantom begin to prey on me. If you don't see anything... I can ... handle the effects again."
In truth, Clybe really didn't want to go down in that dungeon again, not at all. But he also knew that he had to go down there in order to maintain appearances within the temple, and he also knew that if he went in first like this, he would look brave no matter what happened, and he was sure Ramon at least would not let anything truly dangerous happen to him. Sometimes, Clybe thought, sacrifices must be made...
"Very well, Clybe. We will be ready," Ramon answered. "Does the Temple have any holy water maces? At the monastery they had one and used an old Suloise word for it...I think it was 'aspergillum'? This might be the time for such a thing."
Ramon left it to another to bear the holy water mace if it was offered. Instead, as they descended to crypt he made sure his silver mace was loose in its hanger and that the holy water could be splashed easily if needed.

Day 15, turn 18, rds. 1-2 for Caltaran, Ramon, Clybe:
"Since you have asked for one, it shall be provided," Prefect Gaizka Alamilla said. He sent Hector to the armory and Hector brought back two aspergillium, or holy water sprinklers -- one for Ramon and one for Gaizka.
The route into the catacombs had been well known to all three curates well before their training. They knew which dark side passage they had always been told to avoid, and turned into it now. Hector and Gaizka both carried holy symbols that glowed with a bright magical light, and Danilo followed along with a torch in his hands.
Clybe tried to be brave -- but as soon as he saw that ghostly goblin again he just freaked out, dropped everything, and tried to get away.
"Grab him! Stop him!" Danilo said. He dropped his torch and stepped up to grapple with Clybe and keep him from running. "He needs to stay and confront this!"
Hector and Danilo held Clybe back, leaving Caltaran, Ramon, and Gaizka free to throw holy water. The phantom stretched and grew enormously long and worm-like, barely resembling a goblin anymore. It unnerved Caltaran and Ramon, so that when they threw holy water at it they completely missed. Only Gaizk's vial flew true. The holy water made the phantom hisssss.
Then, Ramon and Gaizka switched to their holy water sprinklers and went in for melee. Ramon hit it hard enough to douse it and the phantom howled, while Gaizka missed and stumbled back. The phantom lunged for Ramon, but he dodged it.
Caltaran could still act. Clybe was turned to watch, but was out of control of his actions.

Day 15, turn 18, rds. 3-4 for Caltaran, Ramon, Clybe:
Both Ramon and Gaizka were pushed back by the large, worm-like apparition. Hector and Danilo had Clybe turned around now so he could face the horror. Caltaran delayed. The thing reached out with a translucent tendril and struck at Ramon. Though it splashed over his body like vomit, he held his ground.
While Gaizka was held back on the defensive, Ramon managed to strike the phantom again, with an even louder hisssssss . It reached out for Ramon again, but he dodged.
