Caltaran nods and says "I agree with ximo. Let's make sure we get nydia's body when we leave. Let's go finish these goblins. Since we have 6 now semer and myself first rank. Ximo and Letitia 2nd rank and then winoc and Ricarda in the third. Unless winoc you want first rank?"
Then looking at the goblin " I gave you quarter and you threaten me and my team. Face justice." Caltaran bashes the goblin's skull in. ( attempting to kill the goblin)

Day 13, turn 4 for Caltaran, Ximo, (Semer, Winoc, Ricarda, Laetitia):
Caltaran smacked the goblin prisoner and knocked him unconscious, then had to hit him while he was down to kill him.
Winoc followed Caltaran's lead and stabbed the other goblins on the ground to make sure they were all dead. "I'll stay in the rear, guard our backs," Winoc said.
The party of six now formed up into even ranks of two and went...well, they could go right, and make sure the room at the top of the stairs was secure, or they could head straight, where Ximo knew would be winding tunnels soon.

Caltaran says " I agree let's search this room and then let's go after the tunnels. So we don't get lost let's mark this room and each tunnel with a sign/symbol using a colored piece of chalk to help us from getting lost. "

Day 13, turns 3a for Joaquim:
Joaquim did not have to wait outside alone long. Ekaitz came out and said, "She doesn't think you have the 'fire in your belly' to be an invoker. But we might still find an area of specialization for you. Would you be interested in meeting an enchanter or a diviner next?"

Day 13, turn 5 for Caltaran, Ximo, (Semer, Winoc, Ricarda, Laetitia):
It had been 8 days since Ximo was last in this room. The room at the end of the east-west corridor contained a rectangular dais in the center of the room that had nothing but a pile of bones and straw on it. The walls were decorated with furs and had two torch sconces, one on the east and west walls respectively. There was a small wooden table and a short bench pushed to the east wall -- but the table was now bare, and the barrel and cask that had once been here were absent. The dead goblins and wolves had been moved away, just like in the tunnel.
Choosing not to go down the stairs, the party of 6 backtracked to the intersection where the latest battle had been. Just as they rounded the corner into the north-south corridor, they could hear the sounds of more goblins and wolves charging them from the north. The first opponents to enter the range of their torchlight, though, were something else -- two giant rats being driven ahead of the goblins.
((The rats are now 30' from the front rank -- intentions?))

Day 13, turn 5, rds. 1-2 for Caltaran, Ximo, (Semer, Winoc, Ricarda, Laetitia):
Semer had retrieved his spear and was waiting to throw it for as long as Ximo delayed on throwing his dagger. Semer was a little quicker on his throw, but it wasn't accurate enough and he missed the charging rat by an inch. Ximo's moment longer of delay gave him the accuracy he needed and he landed a blade right in a rat, dropping it to the floor.
Caltaran delayed until the rats were almost upon him. By then, he could see three goblins and another wolf coming up behind. He got all three goblins in his spell -- two collapsed to the floor and remained motionless, while the third froze where he stood like a statue.
The remaining rat did not seem interested in attacking, but darted right between Semer and Caltaran on its way to the second rank. There, Laetitia was surprised and too slow to strike, but Ricarda made up for earlier by smashing the rat good and crushed it dead.
That just left one wolf, but no longer being goaded forward, the wolf hesitated to rush into combat and hovered 20' away from the party's front rank.
But further north, in the darkness, the party could hear more goblins and wolves coming, and they heard a drum further back behind it. Answered by another drum to the west.
((rd. 1: Semer's to hit: 9+1, Ximo's to hi: 15 - 1 dmg, saves: 16, 1, 13; Laetitia's to hit: 3, Ricarda's to hit: 14 - 3 dmg))

Caltaran thinks of options and says, " excellent work on the rats but my halt spell will not last long. We can kill these three and rush the group ahead but the other group to the west will come upon our rear unless we reshuffle the marching order. The better option in my opinion, is head back to the room we just left. We will have opponents ahead and to our left and hopefully none to the rear and we will make our stand there unless there is a better room to use for this option, suggestions?"

"She's right," Joaquim said, trying to settle himself down. He did not enjoy that experience at all. It conjured up too many memories of confrontations from his early days in the Slum Quarter. Apparently a lot of bullies and thugs would have made spectacular invokers.
"Lets meet the enchanter. I think, if there's any specialization I'm cut out for, it will be that one."
"Let's drive that wolf back towards the goblins. Bang your shields and such," Ximo answered. "Either way we kill the wolf or we kill the goblins. Or both. And then we can make our stand just south of the western corridor. I have a spell to bring many of the goblins down."
If the party agreed with his plan, Ximo would let them kill the things and he would recover his dagger from the dead rat.

Hearing ximo plan he says "great idea and i agree with ximo plan. Ladies and gentlemen let's drive this wolf back with our shields and kill and goblins and the wolf if they get in our way. Ximo let us know when you are going to cast your spell. Let's start this Semer." Caltaran moves toward the wolf using his mace to bang on his shield. If the wolf attacks, caltaran will hit it with his mace.

Day 13, the rest of turn 5, then turn 6, rds. 1-2 for Caltaran, Ximo, (Semer, Winoc, Ricarda, Laetitia):
The trick worked on the wolf; without anyone actively goading it, it ran from the loud noise. The front rank was then able to move up and slaughter the magically immobilized goblins. Ximo retrieved his dagger and wiped the rat blood off it.
The party lined up again, just south of the west side passage, and waited. They did not have to wait long. The next wave of goblins was charging them now from the north. They could hear a wave of them coming from the west, but it hadn't reached them yet.
"All right...same as before," Semer said. He threw his spear at an advancing goblin, but it was deflected by a shield this time.
Caltaran met the charge of the goblins as Semer switched back to his short sword. Bam! The mace swung down hard and crushed the first goblin to the tunnel floor.
That goblin's front rank companion caught Semer with his shield and shoved him forcefully back into Laetitia, behind him.
The second rank of goblins threw spears over the front ranks at the party's female clerics, hitting them both -- and seriously injuring Ricarda.
Semer had his sword in hand now, batted away the spear in front of him, moved in close, and sliced the throat of the goblin who struck him. Caltaran held his ground and batted away the second rank of goblins, who tried to move up now to fill the gap.
The second rank drew short swords and charged up to fight. There were at least 4 more behind them. From the west, more reinforcements were almost to the north-south corridor.
Ricarda fell back, with Winoc taking her place. Winoc put away his crossbow and waited for a chance to melee.
((rd. 1: Semer's to hit: 5+1, Caltaran's to hit: 13 - 3+1 dmg, to hit Semer: 18 - 2 dmg, to hit Laetitia: 15 - 1 dmg, to hit Ricarda: 20 - 5 dmg; rd. 2: Semer's to hit: 19 - 6 dmg, Caltaran's to hit: 8))
Ximo waited to see how the combat went. He particularly kept a watch on the western passage. If that group proved to number a half dozen or more, he would use his torporous zone spell to put as many of them as he could to sleep.
Caltaran says, ""letitia check on Ricarda, Winoc stay and protect Ximo and the two ladies.Semer and I can hold off the remaining goblins." Hearing the sounds of the western opponents advancing he says to Ximo, "lLet us know if we need to move or fall back. "

Day 13, turn 6, rds. 3-4 for Caltaran, Ximo, (Semer, Winoc, Ricarda, Laetitia):
The next rank of goblins rushed in -- and Semer cut down one just before Caltaran smashed down the other just as they reached them.
The next rank was understandably hesitant to just rush right in. One of them threw a spear at Caltaran, but was so shakily thrown that it missed him by 5 inches. The other goblin in the front rank was making room for two wolves, that were being goaded into moving forward and attacking by more goblins behind them.
The wolves lunged in, in place of the goblins, . Semer stabbed his and seriously injured it. Caltaran did not fare as well, as his wolf managed to clamp its jaw down on his leg and shake him until Caltaran was completely off-balance. Semer's wolf did the same to him, mauling him until his grieve splintered and a sharp end stabbed his own leg. It stabbed deep and Caltaran went down on one knee.
((rd. 3: Semer's to hit: 20 - 4 dmg, Caltaran's to hit: 13 - 5+1 dmg, to hit Caltaran: 7; rd. 4: Semer's to hit: 18 - 1 dmg, Caltaran's to hit: 6, to hit Semer: 17 - 5 dmg, to hit Caltaran: 18 - 5 dmg. Semer is seriously injured.))
Caltaran yells, "winoc come up and take care of the wolf on me. Letitia come up and fight. " Caltaran knows the risk but he has to try. He uses his other arm to cast his cure light wounds spell and tries to heal Semer. Knowing that for this round his shield will be useless for his AC.

Ximo looked around and dearly wished he had listened to those followers of Trithereon. As he looked around him he saw his companions being mowed down by bad guys with spears. If only he had bought one of those crossbows. Then he would be able to put a stop to these clearly mentally ill goblins motivated by their hatred of the Temple of Heavenly Virtues and their hatred of his freedom. Instead he just kept behind the fighters and clerics.

Day 13, turn 6, rd. 5 for Caltaran, Ximo, (Semer, Winoc, Ricarda, Laetitia):
Ximo's spell was a spectacular success again -- all the goblins dropped and the only opponents left were the two wolves. Again, with no goblins pushing them to attack, the two wolves backed off. Caltaran was in no danger, now, as he called on a Cure Light Wounds spell, but Semer was still lightly injured.
"What now?" Semer asked. "Heal Ricarda and keep moving? Or stay here and loot the fallen?"
((Semer healed 3 hp))
Last Edit: Oct 5, 2015 15:04:48 GMT -6 by scottenkainen: lightly, not moderately
Caltaran says "nice timing ximo your spell worked great. Winoc and Letitia start dispatching the sleeping goblins. I have three healing blessings left. I am going to heal semer first then ricarda. Once I heal you semer you watch the other corridor for the reinforcements. After healing ricarda we reform the line and take out the next wave of opponents. "

Day 13, turn 7 for Caltaran, Ximo, (Semer, Winoc, Ricarda, Laetitia):
The drums had stopped. In the heat of the combat no one had noticed, but the drums had stopped not long before the sleeping spell took affect. Did that mean the goblins had run out of reinforcements to send, or that they would risk no more?
Caltaran healed both Ricarda and Semeragin again and they were both good as new.
"Gods be praised!" Ricarda exclaimed, as if she'd never been healed before.
There were 9 sleeping goblins to off, bringing the death toll on this expedition up to 14 ((I think), which combined with the previous expedition's death toll of at least two dozen adult and young goblins meant a surprisingly large warren of them was being wiped out.
((I'm going to make some assumptions about where you "keep moving" to, to move things along faster.))
Semer and Ximo had been west and then south before but had not gotten far. They moved in that direction now and found a small cave to the southwest that had held goblin young in wooden pens before, but was now cleared out. The next cave was roughly across from that ((marked with a red x on the map)) -- and this one was occupied by more goblins and goblin young!
Four goblins with spears were at the back of a torch-lit cave, goading more of those small, feral goblin young -- naked if not in rags, rolling around like pillbugs, but could bite and scratch to dangerous effect -- and there were 14 of them coming this way! ((2 hp back to Semer, 6 to Ricarda))
"Keep back for a moment!" Ximo ordered and he stepped forward a bit and threw his lantern into the path of the goblin young, hoping to create an obstruction that might slow them down or even hold them off so the party could deal with them with missile weapons.

Day 13, turn 7, rds. 1-2 for Caltaran, Ximo, (Semer, Winoc, Ricarda, Laetitia):
With Caltaran moving up front, there was only room for one missile weapon holder to get up front and attack over the flaming pool of oil that erupted from the broken lantern, and that was Semer, who always seemed fastest. Semer, though, seemed to misjudge the babies as too weak a threat and threw for the adults further back, who had more time to block.
Of the goblin babies, the first five died in the fire. The next four were pushed into the fire as well by the back five -- who then scrambled safely over the bodies of the other dead babies to reach the party -- all this while being goaded on by the adults, who threw spears back at the front rank.
These goblins were brutally good with their spears -- Ximo was seriously injured after being hit with a spear, and one hit Caltaran hard enough to give him a light wound even through his armor. Only Semer dodged harm so far.
Ximo stepped back out of the line of fire and allowed Winoc to fill his place. Winoc, who had planned on shooting with his crossbow, switched now to his short sword as the goblin babies rushed him.
Caltaran squished the first goblin baby as four more rolled up around the front rank of Winoc, Caltaran, and Semer.
Winoc was scratched and bit through his boot, but kicked the little bugger off before it could do too much harm. Caltaran and Semer held their foes at bay. One tried to slip past Winoc to chase Ximo, but Winoc stopped putting away his crossbow and shot the thing in the head at point blank range as it skittered past him.
Semer seemed off-balance on his end and missed the baby.
The adult goblins looked like they were getting ready to charge over the bridge of dead babies to reach the melee.
((rd. 1: Semer's to hit: 5+1-2, to hit Ximo: 16-2 - 3 dmg, to hit Caltaran: 19-2 - 6 dmg, to hit Semer: 9-2; rd. 2: Caltaran's to hit: 18 - 1 dmg, to hit Winoc: 15 - 1 dmg, Winoc's free attack: 16+1 - 3 dmg, Semer's to hit: 6))
