Looks like Adventure Time. That got really really violent.

Do you mean that it looks like Adventure Time, except more violent? Or that it looks like Adventure Time, which has gotten really violent?

lol, the former. The art immediately made me think of Adventure Time. I get a kick out of that show, so I enjoyed looking at the material for Far Away Land. I browsed some of the mods and art, and it struck me as violent (as is right an proper for a OD&D RPG). So don't get me wrong, I am not advocating some sort of high-brow style of gaming. The gore stood out to me because my first reaction was, "My 6 year old will love this". As he is a fan of Adventure Time. But then the helicopter parent in me kicked in and figured it was best meant for the 12+ crowd. I still go back and forth with mixing sci-fi and fantasy. I typically enjoy the settings separated, but Star Wars shows the two can be mixed and mixed well.

I don't know much about either game (Far Away Land or Adventure Time). What makes it (them?) so cool and worth checking out?

Adventure Time is not a game. It is a show on NetFlix and likely some other networks. It has a lot of references to D&D and gaming in general. It is light-hearted, but worth a watch.
I have not played Far Away Land, and cannot speak to its merits. The art is in the same style as Adventure Time, which is why I drew the reference.

I just had FAL pointed out to me today, so I don't know how it plays, though the mechanics outlined on the website look nice and unobtrusive. And yeah, nuns with hook-swords riding bears and dismembering Abraham Lincolns is a bit bloodier than AT... @finarvyn, AT is, IMO, brilliant. It's obviously conceived and written by guys in their 40s who spent a LOT if time playing D&D in the 80s (and beyond!) there's so much awesome stuff in almost every episode that you could transplant right into an ODD campaign that it boggles the very mind... It's on Cartoon Network, and there are multiple seasons-worth of DVDs. It's Algebraic!

The game world is trope filled and remains true to itself - not taking itself too seriously and allowing creative synergy to be its motivating force. It like a really good remix of your favorite song.

I'm very impressed. I don't play many tongue in cheek game sessions but I probably should.I think last thing I played like that was Ghostbusters in the 80s. But very original concept! Dig the art.
