Day 9/turn 8 for Joaquim:
"Of course! Here let me help you round things up..." the gnome said helpfully.
They rifled through clothing and pouches and also found on the leather-clad man a set of thieves tools hidden in his boot. Of the other two, they also found 1 sprig of wolvesbane, 1 flask of what smelled like brandy, 1 spool of string, and a ring with 3 keys on it. Testing the keys, Joaquim found one of them locked the front door of this hostel.
"Here is some rope to tie them up with, though we could also use their own clothing, or the sheets from the guest rooms," the gnome volunteered helpfully. After Joaquim asked about the attack on the bailey, the gnome said, "I would say the attack went pretty much as planned. More of the attackers at the south gate were expected to make it back alive, but that was never a sure thing. The important thing was to sow fear in the populace. Make them feel like the Viscount can't protect them. Then the protest march through the city should give them direction for venting about their fear and frustration..
"The Dracolisk is from Dieg Manor. Not everyone would know about that. I did, but assumed like everyone else that it had been killed during the last uprising of the cult. It was only when they showed me that it had survived that I realized the Silver Consortium doesn't stand a chance this time, and I would have to change sides if I was going to be with the winners."

Day 8/Turn 14b for Walhorn:
The boy looked warily at Walhorn for almost a full minute. Then said, "I guess it doesn't really matter to me if Caltaran never gets his message." He took the three gold coins and bit down on each of them to test them. Then squealed a little bit and tucked them into his shoe.
"I think I found what he was looking for," the boy said. "I didn't see any kobolds, but I saw two men using a secret door in the side of a building where there didn't seem to be a door. If the kobolds are hiding around there, it's got to be behind a door like that, right?"

"Smart thinking," Joaquim told the gnome. "Sometimes, to survive, you do what you have to do."
The information the gnome had was overwhelming. They needed to get out of here and to someplace safe.
"I think some guards will be coming because of the commotion. Are there any valuables here we should take with us, so the Viscount's men don't find them?" If there were, Joaquim and the gnome would retrieve them. "We should get out of here before those guards show up. I have another friend who is working with the Church as a double agent. Lets go talk to him."

Day 9/turn 9 for Joaquim:
"Take whatever you like," the gnome said. "I doubt they had much of value, so they aren't likely to miss it much, will they?"
((Just let me know what you do take, though.))
The gnome was swayed to leave before guards showed up, and went with Joaquim as far as the High Quarter, outside the Bailey, before stopping. "Wait -- you want to meet your double agent, inside the Inner Bailey? Where security is going to be tightest after the attack? That's madness; I can't let you put yourself at risk like that. Isn't there somewhere else we can go and wait for him to come to us?"

Day 8/Turn 15 for Walhorn:
It was late and probably past curfew when Walhorn and Domeka reached the northeast corner of the Foreign Quarter. Walhorn ducked back behind a corner when he saw they were approaching a watch station -- not a safe place to be spotted after curfew!
"It's back here anyway," Domeka whispered, and he led Walhorn away to the left, and then to a corner behind the warehouse across from the watch station. He pointed to the middle of a blank wall opposite the warehouse, the wall of a two-story building that had shops facing the other side and apartments above them. Some of the shops had back doors facing this alley, but the one with just a blank wall did not. And yet Domeka insisted it did.

Joaquim helped himself to all of the men's pouches, along with the belt attached to the jeweled buckle. The thieves tools he left laying on their owner's body. He hoped that'd give any guards who showed up enough reason to detain the men. Joaquim set out a blanket from one of the guest rooms and quickly wrapped all the cultist's weapons in it. After a final scan of the room, he hoisted his parcel and started to lead the gnome out toward the Bailey.

Day 8/Turn 16 for Walhorn:
Walhorn searched the boy's back wall for his secret door, but no matter how he searched and probed, he could find no means of ingress. After 10 minutes of searching, he wondered if that street urchin had tricked him out of three gold on a wild goose chase!
But, before he could leave -- he heard a door open behind him. Turning around, he could see light issuing from an open door where there had been no door before. Silhouetted by the light was a man who shuffled slowly out into the alley, followed by two more behind them. Someone inside shouted "Go! Go!" before slamming the secret door shut. The three men were just standing around, blocking the north end of the alley (Walhorn is at the south end).

Day 8/Turn 16a for Walhorn:
Though the secret door closed, Walhorn had a good idea where it was.
The three men split up, one moving slowly north, another moving slowly south - towards Walhorn - and the third just ambling around where he was.
As the south-facing man approached, Walhorn could see that the man had a deathly pallor to him and no sign of life in his eyes. He appeared to be of the undead! ((and is 10' away now - combat intentions?))

Day 8/Turn 16, rds. 1-2 for Walhorn:
Walhorn hid well in the shadows and waited for his undead victim to come within stabbing range. But as the corpse shambled past Walhorn, his nerve failed him a little, especially when he heard the center-most walking corpse moan lightly down the alley. It threw off the aim of his attempt to backstab. His blade ruffled the back of the corpse's tunic and it slowly turned to face Walhorn.
Walhorn saw a chance to stab it again before it could attack him. This time he succeeded! He buried his blade in its stomach and shook it violently as he tried to dislodge the sword, but the corpse only groaned as it reached for him -- just missing!
The second walking corpse was shambling this way now, but was still 10' away.
((surprise rd.: hide in shadows: 06, to hit: 5+4, rd. 1: Walhorn's to hit: 15 - 4 dmg, to be hit: 11))

Walhorn attacks with his blade again and using his dexterity to try to dodge the attacks from the corpse. He also moves back (combat withdrawel) so he enters the main street keeping his distance from the corpse and the second corpse advancing. His hope is that the combat will bring the watch or town guard.

Day 8/Turn 16, rds. 3-4 for Walhorn:
Walhorn began a fighting withdrawal eastward; luckily, the Watch Station was within sight just around the corner.
Walhorn managed to pull his sword free and tried to swing it again, but the walking corpse was on him now, strangling the life from his throat!
Walhorn managed to cut one of the arms off the corpse and free himself! But the other corpse was almost on top of him now and grazed Walhorn with a fist. The first corpse was still standing, but seemed momentarily stunned by having one less arm to strangle with.
Walhorn was seriously hurting now, but luckily he heard a man shouting from his right flank (perhaps 25' away), "Move away from them, citizen, so we can fire!"
((rd. 3: Walhorn's to hit: 6, to be hit: 12 - 4 dmg; rd. 4: Walhorn's to hit: 16 - 2 dmg, to hit Walhorn: 16 - 1 dmg))

Day 9/turn 14 for Caltaran:
Caltaran searched all through the dinner hours in the Foreign Quarter for Domeka. He did see other street urchins, and lost a few copper pieces bribing them for information, but none knew -- or professed to know -- where that particular boy was.
"Pleasant night for a stroll," a man said. Walking nearby Caltaran was a fair-skinned man with a triangular-cut beard down to mid-chest of his studded leather hauberk. There was grey in the man's beard, black on his hat, and he wore distinctive white hose. He had the accent of a foreigner, likely from Perrenland. "I see, as night draws near, you seek the company of a boy. But you have discriminating tastes and are seeking a particular one? Where does one go in this town to find the best boys?"

caltaran says, " i am looking for the street urchin named Domeka. He has been looking at a warehouse for me watching for kobolds. I am investigating the cult of the flaming eye and I have reason to believe that Kobolds might be associates of this evil cult. I am returning to see what he has discovered and also to offer him a better life at my church."

Day 9/turn 15 for Caltaran:
"Really?" the elder man said jovially. "Tell me more of this church that is so interested in young boys. You could do so while we search together for this youngster."
They walked along together and Caltaran spoke at length about the Temple of the Heavenly Virtues, plus his own search for the Cult of the Flaming Eye, and all he had learned so far about it. The man seemed to find it all fascinating and asked discerning questions to learn more.
They never did find Domeka. Indeed, Caltaran realized, just as the bells were tolling three times to announce curfew, that the man had steered them slowly westward until they were near the Wealthy District.
"A lawful citizen like yourself surely does not wish to remain on the streets," Caltaran's companion said. "Come with me and I will put you up for the night."

Caltaran thinks about the question and remembers his encounter with the doppleganger and says " I have a spell that possibly could detect this child let me cast this first."
(caltaran casts Detect evil)
When he finishes casting he scans the area and says "by the way my name is Caltaran Morris Nesmith, Clerick of Heironeous and you are sir? You seemed to be interested in religion are you a worshipper? "
If the spell does not detect evil on this man he will accept the offer for lodging

Day 8/Turn 16, rds. 5-6 for Walhorn:
Walhorn tried to disengage, not so much through movement, but with dexterity and quickness. The walking dead shambled after him.
The Viscount's crossbowmen decided to chance firing anyway. The first crossbowman bungled, missing both undead, and grazing Walhorn. The second crossbowman hit the corpse in the head that Walhorn had stabbed twice, dropping it.
That still left a seriously injured Walhorn to deal with one remaining corpse. Walhorn managed to stab it in the arm, but it kept coming at him.
A third soldier was running up to them with a mace in hand now. Walhorn missed the corpse this time, so weak was his sword arm, but he kept the corpse busy enough that it could not block the mace coming down on it. The corpse was seriously damaged, but was still fighting back.
The two crossbowmen had dropped their weapons and were changing to broadswords now as they charged forward to help.
((Rd. 5: x-bow #1 to hit: 5, 18 on re-roll - 2 dmg, x-bow #2 to hit: 15 - 5 dmg, Walhorn's to hit: 18 - 2 dmg, to hit Walhorn: 4; rd. 6: Walhorn's to hit: 9, mace to hit: 15 - 5 dmg. Walhorn is at 1 hp.))

Day 9/turn 15, rd. 1 for Caltaran:
Caltaran began to ask the gods for the ability to detect evil -- when the "gentleman" who had been strolling around town with him took a punch for his face! Caltaran blocked with his shield in time and finished his spell. Boy, was this guy evil! He radiated so much, it was almost blinding!
"It was too much to hope you would walk right into my trap," the man said.
((rd. 1: to hit Caltaran: 5 -- combat intentions?))

Caltaran draws his weapon and yells hoping to draw a watch patrol "looks like we meet again foul creature. Now face justice. Heironeous guide my hand to defeat this foul creature. " caltaran draws his weapon and tries to defeat his oppponent.

Day 8/the rest of Turn 16 for Walhorn:
Walhorn dropped back and, luckily, the shambling corpse was more interested in fighting the fresh soldier in front of it than pursuing Walhorn. The corpse, though, was quickly surrounded by the three soldiers, with a fourth soldier coming for back-up, and was smashed into gory bits in just over a minute.
"Hey, you!" one of the soldiers called out. "Stay where you are. We have questions for you. What do you know about these zombies? Where did they come from?"

Day 9/turn 15, rd. 2-3 for Caltaran:
"We meet again? Foul creature?" Caltaran's foe asked mockingly. "You should be writing dramas for the theater..."
Caltaran quickly unfastened the mace from its hanger at his side, while his foe began casting a clerical spell. "In the name of Lolth, mistress of all that is terrible, cause this man to feel fear!"
Caltaran swung, but missed by an inch as his foe backed away a step. The foe stepped back forward while the mace was on the backswing and tried to press his open hand to Caltaran, but Caltaran guessed what was coming and stumbled backwards to avoid his touch.
"Afraid of the power of Lolth, Caltaran...?" the Foe asked.
Caltaran kept swinging, but something more than mundane, light armor kept his mace at bay.
"Enough of this. Let the power of Lolth hold your person, rooted to the spot!"
Caltaran beseeched Heironeous to shield him from this wicked spell -- and it worked! Caltaran was completely unaffected.
Then they both heard the clatter of horse hooves and much foot traffic drawing near from up the street. The Foe glanced back and showed some concern, though they could not see the advancing party on the curved street yet.

Day 9/turn 15 for Joaquim, Ximo:
The conjurers journeyed south of the Bailey and, asking for directions, found themselves at Higden's Place for Gnomes, an establishment that seemed reputable and well-known, though just not by either of them. Indeed, directly asking seemed to be the most productive route to Jaggers' home, for it worked again outside of Higden's when Joaquim asked a gnome, standing outside of Higden's and smoking some pipe weed, where they could find the domicile of a Mr. Jaggers. The gnome quietly pointed to his left with his pipe. "Other side of this block, second door over on the right."
But first, they stopped inside Higden's, for both men were feeling slightly peckish by now. The low-ceilinged common room was smoky from pipe weed. Gnomes and dwarves stared at them through the smoke.

walhorn sheathes his blade and has a seat on the street. He says, "my name is walhorn and I was wondering down the street when I saw a hidden doorway open up in that building over there. Being an adventurer as I am I went over to checked it out. Then emerging from the doorway were those three zombies corpses. I also heard someone inside the building giving them orders. I tried to follow one but it saw me and attacked me. These walking corpses are not natural are they. I would like to find out who sent these creatures to stop them. Right now though I could use some healing. "
