Always said to see someone go, regardless of their age. However, we can rejoice for those who did indeed have long full lives that brought joy to many. LLAP!

While not a gaming icon per se, Leonard Nimoy was probably the next thing over. I have fond memories of playing the old FASA Star Trek RPG (the printing with Kirk and Spock on the cover) and so much of my gaming experiences overlap with my Star Trek experiences.
I was too young to enjoy TOS when it first came out, but I discovered Star Trek somewhere around 1973. (I base this on my Star Trek adaptation novels by James Blish, where I can look up their printing date.) Certainly the same era in my life as my discovery of wargames, miniatures games, and eventually OD&D. So, as a Star Trek TOS fan of more than 40 years, I think this makes his passing particularly difficult.
By the way -- if you ever get a chance to hear Nimoy's "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" be sure to listen to it ... once ... then burn the copy so that others will not suffer a similar fate.
Live long and prosper, Mister Spock.

I was always called Spock by my classmates when I was a kid (back in the 70's)

A definite fixture of my childhood and beyond. An iconic and original character in Spock, and a very interesting person behind. Loved his character in Invasion of the Body Snatchers too. I didn't know he was a poet, I will have to seek out his poems. This news of his passing I unfortunately learned of on the eve of my wedding night...
