What's the deal? No one even mentioned this was out. I'm not seeing any plublicity or murmurs on the blogs. It's been out since October. SJG Car Wars ClassicI just happened to stumble over it on Amazon while looking at other things. Actually, Finarvyn did give me a heads up a while ago in the Ogre Pocket Edition thread. Maybe this game doesn't hold the same nostalgic feel for others that it has for me? It's one of the games that takes me back.

I didn't play this nearly enough back in the day. Back in the Road Warrior day.

I heard about both the OGRE and Car Wars releases when they were announced, but only learned when each was available by spotting them during rare stops at my FLGS.

Car Wars hit my game store about 2 weeks ago. I put it on my Christmas list, so I'm not allowed to buy a copy before then.

Picked this up on the weekend at my FLGS and couldn't be happier with it. Has normal, non-cardstock counters which was my main concern.
Never played/owned this one back in the day, but I plan to back the Kickstarter when it goes live, so this is a great introduction to Car Wars.

Can anyone tell me more about this edition? Looks like it's a digest sized box, is that correct?
I'd kind of like to get this, if it isn't too different from the first edition -- the later ones added way too much additional crap for my tastes.

I have it but had not opened it until you asked. The die cut counters are a pleasant surprise. At 64 pages, the rule book is more than twice the length of my first edition pocket box, and with a larger page size. I don't have time right now for a review of how much of that is content vs presentation. I could bring it to a conclave.

I'd kind of like to get this, if it isn't too different from the first edition -- the later ones added way too much additional crap for my tastes. It's the same size as SJG Illuminati and Munchkin boxes- about 6x9. As Droll mentioned, it's a little larger page count then the early pocket box. Part of this is a result of some rules developments since then. But the rules do not include any info for trucks, busses, boats, tanks or copters. It is just like the original in that the rules are only for cars and cycles. It does says the rules are fully compatible with the Compendium if you want to expand. The box contains a large 2' x 3' arena/racetrack, 4 six siders, car and cycle record sheets, turn key, and all the counters from the original game. A bonus for me, is that the counters are all ready punched out. It's taking me a little bit to get back up to speed on this game, since it's been a while since I played it. But there will definately be some vehicular mayhem and crash induced road rash over the holidays

Yeah, I broke down and got this. Which I didn't really need to do, since I still have the first edition (ziploc) and third edition (pocket box).
I'm still working out whether it's better than the original or not.

better? That's in the eye of the beholder and all....
How is it different? To me that's more important.

I think the precut counters are one aspect that make this edition "better". hah I had one or two "wave runners" back in the pocket edition days where the counter had one really wavy line on one side from my sloppy brick hand cut

I picked it up, too. It's worth pointing out that is also includes a die-cut turning key, which I didn't expect. The pocket box will always have a special place in my heart, but this one's definitely easier to read. And man, I don't know what it is about that cover art, but it makes me wanna play play play...

Man, SJG is hitting up the nostalgia on this one! I will be making a trip to the FLGS and picking this up ASAP.

I just saw a copy with the board games at Barnes & Noble. It was $20.00. Brilliant.
