Not sure if this is the proper place to put this, or if it has been announced or remarked upon previously in the last few days. But this Lulu sale is a great opportunity. Use the code FLASH30. Some of the prices are pretty insane. I made some price comparisons in a blog post here of the current Lulu offerings with the 5e "core" books as well as the standard TSR editions back in the day.

Thanks, derv. I just found it in my emails. I assume everyone can use it, though the add says "It's Just For You". The code is SAVE35.

Okay, so I just got an email saying the FLASH30 sale has been extended to November 24 (though I suppose one should try the SAVE35 first). But there also seems to be a new sale also through that date for 50% off of hardcovers. The code is HC50.
I assume Lulu wants us to be exchanging information on this. Am I wrong?

I trust all these sales aren't cumulative. They'd be paying me to take the books!

Thanks for the tips, guys. The HC50 sale was too good to pass up, so I now have copies of Fantastic Heroes & Witchery, Narcosa, and Magical Theorems & Dark Pacts on order. Plus the pb for Full Metal Plate Mail. A nice OSR present to myself for the holiday season!

Okay. I'm about to take the plunge on a few things. Can anyone answer this: all things being equal (such as price) are Lulu hardcover books definitely superior to Lulu perfect bound books?

You know, oakesspalding, I can't tell ya All of the stuff I've gotten from Lulu has been softcover. Once I get my Teratic Tome in the mail in a week or so, I'll be able to comment on it.

I had recently purchased a hardbound Dark Dungeons. It didn't have any issues when it arrived, but I'm personally not all that confident in the binding. Hopefully it'll prove me wrong though.

That said, I have seen worse hardbacks. It just doesn't impress me at all.

I would say Lulu's hardcovers are only superior to their softcovers in the respect that a hardcover is heavier then the card stock cover of the perfect bound. I have not found much that distinguishes the binding quality of the two. Also, I have found some of the larger hardcovers (8.5 x 11) I've purchased have warped slightly at the corner's. I still would choose a HC over a SC if the price was close with the 50% off code. In fact I'm considering buying the Knights & Magick miniature rules in hardcover with that discount.

Me too, Merctime. Hardcovers never seemed worthwhile to me. I assumed they were heavier, for one thing. Though today I actually looked at the Lulu stats and in the case of Mutant Future, the hardcover appears to be lighter. What could that mean? So, dizzysaxophone, do you think the hardcover will last longer than the paperback? So I have Mutant Future in my cart, inspired by angelicdoctor and his Cave of the Cybersteed module. I've really been digging the free version I downloaded from Goblinoid games, and it just seems like a great resource to have in a more permanent form. Not sure what other hardcovers to get, however. But it bugs me to "waste" the high Lulu shipping on just one book. I'm thinking Dungeon Dozen or maybe Narcosa? The problem is many of the things I like don't appear to be in hardcover. And it doesn't seem like you can enter two sales codes for the same order.

Make seperate orders if you want to take advantage of both codes. Generally, I've found the difference to only be 1-2 bucks in shipping and I have not found shipping costs that high. Are you in the states? If you like Gothic Fantasy, Jack Shears stuff is worth considering- Tales of the Grotesque and Dungeonesque. I would caution you to check out DriveThru before making any purchases through Lulu. You will often find the same products at the same or cheaper price that can be bought as a hardcopy/pdf bundle. Xplorer rpg and The Majestic Wilderlands comes to mind in this regard.

oakesspalding I'd expect the binding to last about the same amount of time assuming they had equal usage. It doesn't seem that they're bound any differently. The hardback I suppose would protect it slightly more though.

Anymore recommendations until December 2? Mainly interested in modules & supplements preferably with an OD&D feel The Nameless CityTomb of the Sea KingsTomb of the Iron GodStonehell Dungeon: Down Night-Haunted HallsShadowbrook ManorASE1: Anomalous Subsurface EnvironmentASE2-3: Anomalous Subsurface EnvironmentScourge of the Demon WolfVoyage to Plague IslandThere's a whole range in that. Stonehell and ASE are megadungeons, as different from each other as possible. Stonehell is a good, solid, square-shaped megadungeon that does most of the classic D&D-isms in a big box. The Anomalous Subsurface Environment is a weird, sprawling, gonzo science fantasy environment with huge features. Both are excellent, neither is complete yet. Tomb of the Iron God is a solid OD&D style dungeon, two levels, good work with factions and multiple routes etc. Shadowbrook Manor is a contrast to it, a sort of Tegel-style funhouse manor. Scourge of the Demon Wolf is a good sandbox-ish adventure module, and Voyage to Plague Island is a small island exploration. The Nameless City is a Lovecraft-inspired dungeon. Tomb of the Sea Kings is a classic convention module. Between those, I think you'll be able to find something to your taste. My strongest recommendations are for Stonehell, ASE, Tomb of the Iron God and Shadowbrook Manor.

Thanks for the tip I am giving Cryptworld a go as it sounds neat in a macabre way and I have been seeing some cool looking support material for it of late www.goblinoidgames.com/cryptworld.html

I have a modestly thorough listing on my blog of OSR RPGs on Lulu that I've put together because I buy this stuff. (The page pretty much exists to drop on occasions like this.) I keep it updated when I find new and excellent stuff. Among it, I must strongly recommend Yoon-Suin. It's a toolbox for gaming in a very unique setting sort of inspired by Tibet, and has some amazing ideas throughout its pages.

Thanks, cadriel - I actually had that page of your blog bookmarked at one point, I don't know how I lost it. Still, it's all good because it looks like a few new items made the list since then!
