Day 5/Turn 11 for Walhorn:
"Now you come home, and ask to learn magic," Glendalas said to her son, Walhorn. "For 10 years, I tried to make you learn magic. Would you do it when I asked? No -- it was always too hard. Marian's ways were so much easier, you always said. I'm going to be a thief, Mother, you'd say. I'm going to see the world and adventure and find riches! And here you are, back on my doorstep, asking to learn magic."
Glendalas left in a huff for her room.
"Don't worry about your mother," Marianthalas said to Walhorn, putting her arm around her nephew supportively. "She'll come around. You'd better stay the night and talk to her again in the morning. We turned your old room into a den, of course, but we can throw some blankets and pillows together for you on the floor..."

Caltaran feeling a litle different being called father. Then again he has not shaved in a couple of days, can also use a bath, which is probably why the wench called him father. Caltaran says "yes can I have an ale. Also how much is a room and a bath."

Walhorn says "thank you aunt Marian. By the way my thieving skills have improve greatly since you last trained me. I figure that magic will enhance my thieving abilities and with my quick learning and good memory I should be an easy learner. So thanks for the room. So how are things with you? I am currently on a job right now to get back money someone owes me. "

Day 6/Turn 22a for Caltaran, Marcel:
Caltaran was still talking to the serving wench, who took a seat next to him. "We do have a tub for baths, but it's fairly rusty, Father," she said, again correctly identifying Caltaran as a priest by his raiment and bearing. "Most people visit the Pampered Polecat, if they don't wish to bathe in the river. Perhaps neither is appropriate for clergymen. My name is Zori, Father. I must say, it's a welcome change to have the clergy coming around here. Makes me feel like I'm in church..."
That was when Marcel showed up. When he asked for Hunemar Comtois, the half-orc innkeeper emerged from the kitchen along with wonderful smells. "Ah, are people asking for me because they are hungry! Dinner is served! Who wants to start with my famous mushroom soup?"
"My famous mushroom soup!" his wife called out from the kitchen.
Marcel managed to pull Hunemar aside for a private conversation. "Oh, the Coachman? A loyal customer for many years. Very generous. I couldn't possibly betray his confidence, sir..."

Day 5/Turn 12 for Walhorn:
"Oh, things are fine with me!" Aunt Marian said as she made an impromptu bed for Walhorn in the den. "I keep busy looking after your mother. Of course, I'm not in the business anymore, and thank goodness I dropped out of that when I did. There are a lot of bad elements in this city these days; it's not like the old days when it was just about cutting a purse or picking a pocket when you needed a little extra money for rent."
She begged off from discussing it further when Walhorn pried. "Oh no, I won't sour our reunion with such talk tonight. You just get nice and comfy in here and I'll talk to you more in the morning."
Walhorn did get comfy in the den. It no longer felt like his old room, or like home, but it would do. He was soon asleep.

"I understand," Marcel told Hunemar. "And believe me, that sort of discretion is something I value in my Inn Keep. However, the Coachman may be in danger. I won't ask you to divulge anything, but perhaps you could get word to him post haste. Tell him Marcel needs to speak with him before he departs. I'll wait here until you hear back. Perhaps a couple plates of whatever smells so absolutely delicious are in order. I'm starving."

Caltaran says "thank you for the advise about the bath. The mushroom soup smells wonderful can you bring me a serving. I will be back in a second. I see a friend of mine. " Caltaran gets up and moves over to Marcel. He waits for him to finish his conversation and says "Marcel it is good to see you. Before you react a creature that can change shape to my identity and cause havoc with your group. I am willing and able to prove myself to you and your group."

Walhorn gets comfy in the bed and relaxes. He needs to pick up the cask of ale for the wedding. Obviously taking a bottle worth out of the cask so the gnome can examine it. Then finding out if mom can teach him magic.

Startled at the sudden appearance of Caltaran, Marcel grabbed frantically for his sword, only to find that he'd checked it at the weapons room. In his panic, he didn't listen to the words that started to come from the traitor's mouth and instead socked the man in the jaw.

Peeling himself off the ground he gets up and looks to Marcel and says, "I have no idea what the imposter did to you but I am the real Caltaran. The imposter could not cast spells right? I can as I have showed in the past. I am not going to fight you." Caltaran motions to the innkeeper to wait and not get involved.

Caltaran started to rise and speak, but Marcel was not about to let the man loose come clerical rite upon him. Would the gods even answer the prayer of a man who'd been Magiked against his will? Marcel didn't know and didn't intend to find out. He pounced on the man, intent on restraining him and cutting off his wind. "Summon the Church's First Army," the big man shouted to whoever would listen.

Day 6/Turn 22, rds. 1-2 for Caltaran, Marcel:
Marcel did indeed sock Caltaran in the jaw hard enough to knock him down.
Marcel was less successful at grappling, though. Caltaran managed to get to his feet and get out everything he wanted to say, though it was came out in truncated segments between grunts and groans as the men grappled.
"Fifteen days without a fight in my inn!" Hunemar shouted angrily. He splashed hot mushroom soup all over both men. "Zori, run outside and fetch some army men, whichever you find! Meanwhile, I'll deal with these two..." he said as he rolled up his sleeves.

Day 6/Turn 1 for Walhorn:
Walhorn woke up, quite comfortable, on his old bedroom floor. Before going anywhere, he checked on his mother. Sometimes in the past, she would feel guilty about snapping at Walhorn the day after drinking and be much more pleasant to be around.
And his mother did turn out to be more pleasant. She was even going over her old spellbook in the sitting room. Aunt Marian was running around, looking for old jars of spell components.
"Maybe I can try again with you, Walhorn," Mother said. Not friendly, but at least positive-sounding. "Sit with me and let's talk over what spells I have. We'll see which one you would like to learn."
Walhorn had forgotten how many spells his mother had -- a book of 12! He sat in rapt attention, listening as she described each one...
((Glendalas has the 12 Basic rulebook spells. Let me know which one you'd be interested in learning first.))

Caltaran says "I am not going to fight you marcel and i am willing to surrender freely without a fight. I will pass what ever tests are needed to confirm that I am the real caltaran and that there is a imposter of me called a doppelganger causing trouble. "

Day 6/Turn 2 for Walhorn:
"Oh, you want to make your own spellbook?" his mother asked him. "Do you happen to have a thousand gold pieces? No? Then don't ask such silly questions. Let's concentrate on a simple divination for magic and see if you can handle that, shall we?"
And it started. Glendalas recited the spell from her book and taught Walhorn how to say the words just right.
"Lunch, anyone?" Aunt Marian said, peeking into the sitting room.
"Yes, please! Very good," Mother said to Marian and Walhorn in that order. "I didn't expect you to pick it up as quickly as you are so far. After we eat, I shall start you on somatic components, if you are still interested?"

"Trying to get us both at once, huh? No chance, friend."
"Alright, boys," Marcel said to the soldiers and to Hunemar. "Here's the situation. The father here used to be a nice upstanding member of the clergy. But something's gone bad. We reckon some wizard got in his head and fiddled around a bit, switched up his loyalties. Either that or he's gone full traitor and joined the Flaming Eye, but he hadn't seemed the type for that sort of nonsense. Lets get him to his superiors at the temple and see what they can do to help him."

Walhorn continues to practice his new spell and the technique. He says to mom " mom in order for me to learn magic I think I need you to be sober so I can properly learn this. Once our today's lesson is completed then you can have a drink. Thank you again for teaching me magic."

"I shall be /looking/ and /listening/, Master Ephrain." Smudge but the words in hopes of making loitering sound important and wizardly. "/Looking/. And /listening/."
Smudge tipped his imaginary cap, and strolled round back of the stables, where he kept his spell book in a petrified tree stump. After some minutes he returned to the front of the house again, hoping to find the residents had departed, and the offal of their breakfasts had not.
Later, as Sol waxed towards noon, he decided it was no longer too early to get his tipple on, so long as he remained loose enough to understand the man when he returned with instructions.
And what was that about the Dwarf's cousin? He thought to himself. Visit the Dwarf's cousin, and collect him for the meet with that man. And maybe a second dwarf, if his money could stretch that far.

Day 5/Turn 2 for Smudge:
Ephrain seemed very concerned by Smudge's "looking and listening" comment, but said nothing more about it -- and Smudge left anyway.
The stables were behind the tinsmith shop, actually owned by someone else. Still, no one had yet discovered his secret hiding place for the spellbook.
Ten minutes later, Ephrain and his wife were already out of the kitchen, leaving Smudge to eat their offal, which wasn't really so awful.
It was through the kitchen window that he later noticed that Sol was waxing towards noon, and just as Smudge finished the last of the breakfast cheese after a long, leisurely digestion. A trip to the Brass Rail might be just the way to not only get his tipple, but some tips on recruiting dwarves.
What luck -- both Dain and Meagles were there, at different tables. The only one missing seemed to be Eder, the dwarf Smudge was waiting to meet.
"He weel be here," Dain said, when Smudge asked. "I have talked to heem and he said he would be."

Day 6/Turn 4 for Walhorn:
Walhorn's mother began to cry. "You're right...you're right...I've been a terrible mother..." she sobbed. "I'll be so much better to you now!"
And she did lay off the drink for the whole rest of the afternoon. Aunt Marion looked relieved when she came in to check on them, as if this could have gone a different way.
Walhorn was already mastering the somatic components before dinner. "Amazing progress!" his mother exclaimed.
And eventually, that evening, Walhorn cast detect magic. His mother gasped in amazement. "It...it took me an entire month to learn what you did in a day..." she said quietly. "Oh, if only I'd known you were so gifted..."

Walhorn gave his mom a hug and kiss and says "I am sorry too for causing any mischief. Now tomorrow morning can you teach me to read magical writing. Also i would like to know how i can make my own spell book. I have some business to attend to this evening. A gnome owes me some money from my latest caravan mission. I will be home later."
Walhorn goes and takes an empty wine bottle out of the trash and rinses it out. He then will Stowe it in his backpack. Then he heads to the brewery for the alleged wedding.
