This may not be very useful, but I was thinking about the notion of using 5E to emulate an OD&D style campaign and one of the things I pondered was spell use. So I sat down with my copy of Greyhawk and made a list of all of the spells therein, then turned to my Basic PDF and looked at the spell list there. What I tried to do was see which Basic spells seemed to have an OD&D equivalent. First thing I noticed is that Basic has fewer spells than OD&D. This will be fixed when the Player's Handbook comes out tomorrow. Second thing I noticed is that many of the spells chosen for Basic actually fit AD&D better than OD&D. This leads me to ponder about whether an OD&D conversion makes any sense at all, but an AD&D one might work out well. Anyway, I tossed the results of my note-taking into a PDF and thought I'd post it here. If anyone has any additions or spells I overlooked somehow I'll be glad to update my file and share it.
