Amazing Adventures -- got my PDF
« Thread Started on Sept 2, 2012, 10:31am »

I've been reading my Amazing Adventures PDF and I really like it. Of course, I'm already sold on the SIEGE mechanic and Castles & Crusades, so it's not a huge jump to go from fantasy to pulp rules.

I've been thinking of doing a detective campaign or maybe trying to bring in elements of Sin City, perhaps with a hint of the arcane, and these rules seem to run smoothly and it's like I already know how to play the game. :D

I'm kind of bummed that in doing some web surfing I'm not finding much chatter about this game. :(

I LOVE pulp, but never seem to be able to get anyone to actually PLAY it. I have a small shelf full of pulp genre Savage Worlds stuff that I've really enjoyed reading, but alas.... Ne'er a player can be found. :-/

Amazing Adventures looks good too, but I'm afraid it'll be another means to frustration! (a chance I'll still likely take. ;D )

Do we know when print copies are supposed to hit our mailboxes? I did the kickstarter and am expecting a whole pile of goodies one of these days... probably whatever day it rains since the stuff probably won't fit in my mailbox.

Fin, care to give us a rundown on the setting and the system?
I love Pulp related games and would like to hear your opinion of this one.

The system is pretty much Castles & Crusades, but modern, so if you like C&C you'll love AA. C&C is (to me) sort of a blend of AD&D and 3E -- the feel of AD&D but some of the newer stuff (like spell lists) from the SRD.

In Amazing Adventures the character classes are: Arcanist, Gadgeteer, Gumshoe, Hooligan, Mentalist, Pugilist, Raider, and Socialite.

Like in C&C, each class has certain class abilities they can do. Sort of like a limited skill system, but without the option of cross-class selection.

There are sanity rules for the Call of Cthulhu fans, as well as psychic powers and some magic. :D

Thanks for the information. I don't own C&C but have played in a few games.
I think I'm going to have to pick AA.
One additional question. How tied is the setting with the system?
I've been thinking about running a Pulp game in a variation of the 1980's.
One where history took a different turn in the past.
So I'm curious if it would be possible to create thias setting without having to make alterations to the system.

I don't recall any real setting stuff in the rulebook, or at least if there is any it's not canon. I'm planning on running some non-pulp campaigns with AA. Maybe a Dresden Files thing or a detective game with some Cthulhu elements. It's advertised as "pulp" but doesn't need to be that at all.

Thank you for the information.
i have a setting in mind, taken from an old pulp based issue of Dungeon magazine.
From the way you describe AA it should be no problem to adapt the game to the setting I have in mind.

Do yourselves the favor of going to Bob Murch's Pulp Figures website!

www.pulpfigures.com/

If you don't find some kind of inspiration there, you ain't tryin'! Oh yeah, buy some figs from Bob if you want to. He's a good egg, and a real down to earth gamer like us! Even if you don't do miniatures there is bound to be something there that will delight, inform, titillate, or just make your inner pulp gamer very happy!

Just downloaded the pdf. I have to say that I love what i am reading!
I'll have to get something done with it as soon as possible.
Which means I may be running two games by the end of the month.

Also, for those looking for help in creating adventures, you might want to give Lester Dent's Master Plot Formula a read through.

Awesome link, Mythos! Thanks! :D

(And glad you're loving AA. I'm loving it, too, and I can't wait for the print version to come out!)

If you liked the Lester Dent link, I think your going love this one.

Edit: I knew I had this saved somewhere. IMO, this is the best primer on running Pulp rpgs ever printed.
